  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) 6th 4th.
  2. I'm so glad the adults are back in charge. What a great foreign policy team. Dy-no-mite!
  3. Time to pinch run for Anderson. Can't let him get confidence dammit.
  4. When Fox starts showing pitches in the 4th inning and questionning the ump...that's not a good sign for the quality of the calls.
  5. Been a while since I've seen a pitcher walk to the plate and start looking at baseballs...this is odd.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) I was thinking about it about a week ago. Mack should be the odd man out this off-season. We need a backup CF. A real CF. I am Williams biggest fan, but that was a mistake by Kenny not to get a real back up for CF. Now, you get a guy that can backup Brian in CF, play some good D. You then have Cintron to back up 3B and 2b, and Ozuna to back up SS. 1B is taken care of. For some reason Ozzie doesnt think Rob can play the corners in the OF, so what else can Mack do? He he value, and not really sure of his place here next season... I disagree. I don't think we need a "real backup CF". We haven't needed a real backup RF almost all year. We need someone who can come in once every 15 games and Give Anderson an extra day off, just like Ozzie does with most of the other guys on this team. Rob Mackowiak could be an ideal candidate for that...but this year has convinced me that Ozzie simply won't use him that way, he'll play him as a platoon CF, no matter how good Anderson looks in CF or how much he learns at the plate. Therefore, the only thing we can do is take away Ozzie's ability to use Mackowiak that way by removing Mackowiak. If we don't have a backup CF...Ozzie Guillen can't play the backup CF 2/3 of the key games.
  7. I think he's become the primary backup to Rob Mackowiak in CF.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Great....I love smallball. Nothing like playing for one run. Playing for 1 run and getting it 75% of the time > playing for 3 runs and getting it 10% of the time.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) How people want to keep Freddy over Vaz is beyond me. It's all a matter of who gets us the best price in the offseason. If we can get top-15 talent for one of our other pitchers, the equivalent of say a Chris Young...and keep Garcia...we are better off with that talent and Garcia in the rotation than we are with less talent and Garcia gone. PABLOWNED!
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) Ugh, he's going to be back here next year I can just feel it. I'm not sure I can watch a team with Freddy Garcia and Juan Pierre for a full season. It seems all my worst nightmares about this team are comming true. If Freddy can save his job just by saying he'll likely gain 6-7 MPH on his fastball over the offseason then what stops Podsednik from saying he'll likely get his speed, plate discipline and contact swing back this offseason and keep his job? And what happens if Freddy comes into next year throwing 84-87 MPH? The Sox would likely be completely screwed it would be another season with a 5 ERA 1.48 WHIP soft tosser in the middle of the rotation because he'd have no trade value. I honestly don't care which pitcher we trade in the offseason as long as it's not McCarthy...as long as we get the right price back for him. Freddy Garcia in the rotation and a top-15 prospect or two in our organization >> Freddy Garcia traded and a single top 75 prospect. We need to get younger and cheaper in that starting rotation. McCarthy should be in it, even if he does wind up struggling. And we need to get some more talent on the way up, and one of those pitchers can do that.
  11. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) http://www.goarmy.com/flindex.jsp sign up my friend and if you get lucky you might get sent to Africa! Not enough oil in Sudan for that.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) There is no way Kenny brought in Mack to play CF. Not a chance. It was to back up everyone else, and it was a solid move. Anderson is a young, devolving player, capable of 500 AB's. If Mack was to play CF once a week, I would have no problem with it, at all. Everyone needs a day off, and while Mack is bad in CF, you can get by with him in CF every 7, 8 days. I have come to one simple conclusion: Rob Mackowiak must be traded this offseason. I liked the deal to get Mack, I like having him as a potential backup for Crede if his back goes down, I like having him as an option to back up JD, PK, whoever we have in LF, and Iguchi. But the only way to stop Ozzie Guillen from costing us 10 more games on defense next year is for Rob Mackowiak to not be on this lineup.
  13. Ok, so wait, Ozzie was praising Anderson to the Fox announcing crew before the game? WTF?
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) Wait...is Mackowiak really playing? Please tell me it's an illusion. Has it ever been?
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) who said that? Quite a few people on ESPN. Rob Neyer especially.

    Perfect Pizza

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) 2. Gourmet pizza places such as California Pizza Kitchen and Mellow Mushroom don't count. While their pizza is respectable, tossing any food known to mankind on a pizza just doesn't qualify for a great pizza joint. As far as I can tell, this is actually the best variety of Pizza I've found out here. You don't get any of the great qualities of a nice Chicago Style Pizza, but you do get some nice flavor out of pizza shacks that do them right. I still hate all of you Chicago people. Costco takes whatever they can get. They're based in Washington, I believe.
  17. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) how can they tell this from 450 light years away? 2 datapoints would give you the density; you need the mass of the planet and the size of the planet. The size of the planet is determined by having the planet move between the star it orbits and the Earth. This causes a temporary drop in the light flux from that planet to a telescope, which can be measured and calculated to give you the size. The mass of the planet you can determine by measuring the motion of the star. If there is a planet of sufficient mass orbiting a star, then the star itself will have some motion relative to the center of mass of the 2 objects. As the sun moves around, it will move towards and away from the Earth in a repetitive cycle. The motion of an object relative to the earth is enough to change slightly the spectrum of light coming from the star, an effect known as the Doppler shift. Therefore, if you measure the frequency and amplitude of the systematic variations in the Doppler shift of light coming from a star, you can calculate the mass of the planet causing the sun's motion and its distance from the sun. So if you get a transit and measure the doppler shift, you have both the mass and the volume of the planet, and you can convert to density.
  18. Please tell me the Tigers have to face Bedard this series.
  19. Hayden Penn pitches around a jam in the 2nd, still 1-0 Tigers.
  20. 3-0 Tribe in the 2nd. They manufactured a run. 1-0 Detroit in the 2nd. Solo Home Run Craig Monroe.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) Me thinks you failed to actually read the quote which caused the controversy. I don't think anyone gives a damn about Constantinople versus Istanbul. Read it again. The problematic quote from Benedict is: Why did Constantinople get the works? That's no body's business but the Turks.
