  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) Williams is smarter than that. It will only help his trade value. I'd still say there's a reasonable chance Garcia will wind up with the Sox next year regardless of what happens the rest of this season. One starter will be traded. If KW finds someone's willing to overpay for one of the other pitchers...we might wind up keeping Freddy. I just hope KW gets something really valuable for one of the starters.
  2. Woot. If only Mackowiak were in there. He could have used his mind to make them fail to field the ball, and Anderson could have gotten an extra base.
  3. 4 pitch walk to Crede. They're loaded. For Uribe.
  4. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) Konerko with another infield hit. He's just turning into a speedster this week. Maybe it's time to start stealing some bases.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) Jim Thome with an RBI single off a left handed pitcher. WOW He does hit .250 against Lefties.
  6. And 1-2-3 go our hitters in the first, again. 15 pitches for Saunders. 2 k's.
  7. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) Yeah I'd rather beat them at their full force, or at least never hope for an injury on someone. Except Bonds.
  8. QUOTE(ptatc @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) When I watched the game last night I saw the opposite. I was thinking why the hell is everyone trying ti flip the ball the opposite way. Kornerko and the other righties were popping out to the first baseman and Gurrero all night. There was no effort to pull the ball. Pods had a base hit up the middle at hit it back to the pitchers twice. Popups don't necessarily tell you where a person was trying to hit the ball. If you're trying to pull a ball and you hit a pitcher's pitch into the air, it may well wind up going anywhere. Especially if the pitcher either gets in on your wrists or off the plate away.
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) I don't disagree with any of that. But per the current laws, its all OK. Write you Congressman. The Congressman will demand to see the cash. 3 years later it'll be found in his freezer.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) I remember having a science textbook in like 3rd or 4th grade that said we would be out of oil by the year 2000-2010. Well, we're never going to be totally "Out" of oil, because there is actually a finite amount being generated right now (i.e. there are reservoirs that you can pump at a constant rate and they don't decrease in volume). But it may very well wind up having been close to the "Peak" production year in that guesstimate.
  11. QUOTE(samclemens @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 11:33 AM) World has tapped just 18 percent of global oil supplies, Saudi executive says Yesssss...keep using the oil....yesss.....don't worry there's plenty....yessss....
  12. Ozuna, LF Iguchi, 2B Dye, RF Thome, DH Konerko, 1b Crede, 3B Uribe, SS Anderson, CF Alomar, C Garcia, P Izturis, 3B Cabrera, SS Guerrero, DH Anderson, LF Rivera, RF Kennedy, 2B Morales, 1B Napoli, C Figgins, CF Saunders, P
  13. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) Jerry Owens almost cost us by being to aggressive on that play. Why would you want him running with 1 out and a line drive hit at one of the better RF's? Anyways cant win em all if the Sox win every series from here on out I think they have a playoff spot. He was off with the pitch on what appeared to be a straight-steal attempt. The ball was hit and in the air and he was at 2nd base before he could really tell where it was going. Can't fault him for being too far away from first when he was off with the pitch.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) trying to be "The" liberal network instead of working to syndicate actual talent to stations around the country. Well, the one thing I will say in response to this is that the people running radio in this country have for years had absolutely no interest in syndicating liberal-leaning talk shows, and it sure seems that there's a trend of that changing after Air America went on the air. Just off the top of my head, there's the classic examples like Mike Malloy's infamous cancelation from WLS late-night in Chicago, the questions surrounding the cancelation of Jim Hightower's show in the mid-90's, etc. Now suddenly there's people like Ed Schultz actually finding channels that are willing to syndicate them, which is a huge change from a few years ago, even if AAR does go under (TP at least suggests there's a chance the network itself will survive...they do still have some solidly-rated shows)
  15. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that in general the scientific community did not conclusively agree that steriod use would help you hit the ball farther. This is one of those cases where absence of proof is not proof of absence. In other words...no the scientific community has not, and will never agree that steroids make people hit the ball farther, or that they help baseball players in any meaningful way. Why? Not because Steroids have been proven to be useless, but because every reputable country and sports program in the world is banning performance enhancing drugs and instituting testing programs. And because the laws in most countries now ban them as well. In other words, it's actually impossible for science to conduct a double-blind study over many years of the effects of steroids on athletes in general, let alone baseball players. You can't take 2000 people, give steroids to half of them, placebos to the other half, put them all on an identical workout program, and then see which ones show the most improvement in their baseball skills. It's not only illegal, but dangerous to the health of the participants.

    SL&M and the Sox

And today we have a hostage situation and a school shooting. You know...you might be on to soemthing here.
  17. Joel Zumaya is out for at least the next couple games with a sore wrist.
  18. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) Bust. I guess those of us who pointed out this team's faults in early June (and were subsequently flamed) were just being unfairly pessimistic. The sad part though is that a lot of people in say, around June, were pointing at flaws like the batting average of Brian Anderson or the unreliability of Javier Vazquez as things we needed to correct. Those aren't the things we're fighting now though. Sometimes you just can't anticipate that everyone in your lineup will suddenly go cold, that Javier Vazquez will get hot, that Bobby Jenks will struggle for several games in a row after 39 saves, or that Brian Anderson would find his bat and Ozzie Guillen would punish him with less playing time down the stretch.
  19. We already have a thread on this over in the Diamond Club.
  20. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) They better hope that it is something that does not need surgery. They better not hesitate on letting him go under the knife if it is something that can be helped by surgery.
  21. Yeah, I had a feeling that was going to be the end result of him pitching today/down the stretch. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) I knew it. I told my cat, "He's throwing too many sliders." He was probably rushed back (by himself), too. Get better soon, Francisco. It'll be more interesting to see if, given an offeseason, he can get past this injury, or whether it'll wind up becoming a chronic, Mark Prior/Kerry Wood type set of problems for him, where changing something to avoid hurting his elbow winds up hurting another part of him, etc.
  22. QUOTE(bighurt574 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) With all the talk of unbreakable records - 56-game hit streak, Ripken's consecutive games - is this the greatest record in baseball? The prior record for consecutive division wins was 5 (granted, it is a little easier now with 3 divisions per league). Not with the amount of Money the Yankees have.
  23. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 09:20 AM) It's even more dire now. The #2 offense in runs scored and #4 batting avg a whopping .03 point back of first has absolutely no shot. It's over this team has Kalapsed!! Post all star break, we're #13 in runs scored, and #9 in batting average. And .23 in BA behind the leader...Minnesota.
  24. QUOTE(NYSox35 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 08:52 AM) I disagree w/ some of the negativity. I know we need to "turn it on", but did you all expect to sweep Anaheim @ Anaheim? I know I didn't. If we win 2/3 from Ana and Oak, I'm fine w/ that. It may take a sweep of Detroit, but I think that is possible. It's not a question of "Expecting" to do anything at this point. It's a question of having no other choice remaining if we want to be a playoff team. We started off yesterday 1.5 games back of the Twins and 3 back of the Tigers with less than 20 to play. Simply winning every series is no longer good enough...because all the Twins and Tigers have to do is tread water above our heads and they'll get into the playoffs ahead of us. In July, and even August...winning every series is still an acceptable goal. But when you're on the outside looking in and it's September...simply winning every series just isn't good enough any more.
