  1. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Ozzie needs to get the bullpen ready if Buerhle gets in trouble again. He cannot allow this game to get out of reach. The Sox are on playoff life support at this point and it's do or die. He cannot afford to "save" the pitching arms for future games, 'cause if we lose the rest of the games will be rendered meaningless anyway. Haegar was already warming up in the first.
  2. Konerko's actually hitting .352 in Sept. with a .996 OPS.
  3. I think it would be a moral victory if Thome could get to 40 and Crede could get to 30. The White Sox are the first team since 1995 to have 2 triple plays in the same season.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) Tigers fans in this thread...enjoy the postseason this season. You never know when you'll get back there, so make sure you buy the DVD! But the Tigers have been so great this year! Leading this division for so long! They've got a strong foundation to build on next year, and you just can't imagine that the team won't get better in the offseason. (In green because I went back in time to the end of 2005 and grabbed that post from this board.)
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) Like I said yesterday, I hope the crowd gives this team hell tonight. These underachievers deserved to get constantly booed for their lackluster effort. I haven't heard any yet. I would have been booing after the Ordonez single.
  6. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Do you have confidence that he'll bounce back next season? I don't. I think he will.
  7. 4 straight. What's the record for consecutive hits in an inning?
  8. Followed by a 2 run homer by Monroe.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) We worried about who was electable in 2004. Fat lot of good that did us. After Kerry...there's a decent shot that if the word "Electable" starts getting thrown around in the Democratic race, it's going to be thrown around as an insult.
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) Give me a candidate who is NOT one of the big names that are already muddied (Clinton, Kerry, Edwards), who is moderate but somewhat honest (not moderate by way of waffling), and who has a history of ascendent success (not someone who has been in the same political post forever). That, to me, says Evan Bayh or Bill Richardson. Unfortunately, they both need a much bigger national profile than they have now to pull it off. But if they did, I think either one would kick any Republicans rear in the election. Richardson I could understand. Solid record all-around, hispanic background, position as energy secretary on his resume (something that becomes more important every year). And he wasn't in Congress, so he had no opportunity to vote for the Iraq war, which again, I think by 2008 is going to wind up being an albatross 3x as big as the one it's hanging on the Republicans this year. Bayh though I'm still just not a fan of at all. But if you're talking about a history of ascendant success....well, let's just say that if Obama were to toss his hat into the race, I think he's got my vote even over Gore already.
  11. In your people's opinions...how long do I have to wait before Pearl Jam and Nirvana's first albums are considered classic rock?
  12. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) Russ Feingold would be a fine candidate for President in my opinion. A Democrat with balls. And not nearly as radical as many think. I believe, the more that people see him, the more people will be inclined to support him. He votes his conscience more than most. But here's the problem Feingold is going to run into. I agree that he votes his conscience more than most, but I think Americans are so jaded with politicians that when a politician says they don't listen to polls and just vote their beliefs, no one believes them. I'll give you a prime example. Early this year, Russ Feingold proposed censuring the President over the warrantless, illegal NSA wiretapping program. What was the media's response? Other than the usual "This will finally be the thing that helps Mr. Bush's polls rebound" which they'd repeat even if he started biting the heads off of chickens, the other thing was "oh, Feingold is just trying to help his Presidential bid". It wasn't that Feingold thought it would be the right response, something short of impeachment but at least saying something, it was solely viewed through the political lens. No one believes these guys any more even if they are trying to be honest. The best "Straight shooter" the media has found, John McCain, keeps flip-flopping all over the place on issues to try to beef up his conservative credentials while still appearing to be a moderate, and even has taken to casually dropping his support of campaign finance reform bills he supported a few years ago so that he can raise more funds. I don't really know if the public would know how to recognize a guy who was being genuinely honest about his votes. I don't know if I'd recognize it. For all I know, Feingold could just be putting on a good show. You want to seriously know what Feingold's biggest asset in 2008 could well be? His vote against the Iraq war. That's going to be his biggest advantage by far, especially after 2 more years of "adapting to win". His vote against the Patriot act won't hurt either, but Feingold's vote against it, and the fact that almost all his potential opposition, Edwards, Kerry, Clinton, all voted for it will be a club he can use against them.

  14. We only play 1 non-AL-Central team after 8/31, and we have a lot of late games against K.C.
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) I have grown to dislike Ozzie in a very strong way, but I actually agree with you. Looking back on the 2nd half, the players have flat out choked. Oz can take a bunch on the blame, but Ozzie didnt lose us this division and WC, the players did. I still say that having watched this team, if Brian Anderson had gotten up to 500 at bats, and thus Rob Mackowiak hadn't cost us so damn many games in CF with his defense...we'd be right alongside Detroit right now. I can think of at least 5 games in just the 2nd half where Mackowiak starting has cost us key runs on plays that Anderson would have made with > 95% certainty, and another 5 where he's cost runs in games we won (thus taxing the pitcher and bullpen even more) or in games that wound up not being close (sometimes because the big hit was over his head in CF.)
  16. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Boy, do I envy you people who like football and still have something to look forward to this off-season. You a basketball fan?
  17. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Ozzie and Thome had a meeting with the pitchers prior to the season and forced them to pitch poorly this year. Why wouldn't you want to get rid of them??? The only reason to trade Thome is if we decide to run with the Florida Marlins 06 plan in 2007...go 100% youth and get the best talent other teams will give up.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) Gload gets a bunch of hits, and returns to the bench. Nice one Ozzie. But you get your dimunitive speed guy up at the top of the lineup. Uribe cant hit anything yet starts every single game. At least Mackowiak isn't in there.
  19. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) It is very easy to lead when you are winning. But it takes a truly great leader to be able to bring back a team that has been losing. Last year we saw scenario 1, this year we are seeing that Ozzie is not the type of leader in scenario 2. I just do not see him as the type of manager who can right the ship when the chips are down. He has passion, but at a certain point passion can only take you so far. Ozzie just seems defeated, and that is something that a great leader can never show. Didn't the Sox go through a fairly prolongued struggle last year towards the end of August/beginning of September, and manage to turn around that team?
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) The Bills defense seems solid as hell, and they can play on the road, nearly beating New England at Gillette, going down to Dolphins Stadium and putting on a great defensive display against a revamped offense, led by Mularkey, who as I seem to recall, held some position within the Bills organization last year. The Bills game will not be easy, so long as they stay healthy. It might be like a 7-3 game. Well, almost no game in the NFL is actually "Easy" these days. But at least this season, I think that's a game the Bears should still win, because I think the Bills are 1 year away. They have a ton of talent on that team, especially on defense, adn what looks to be a solid coaching staff, but the one problem is that they're still young. That coaching staff has only been there a few games, Losman is still finding out where he should be, and the offensive line is still working on playing together. Another draft and another year of development from Losman, and they've got a shot to be scary. But I think Losman is still at the "Manage games but don't lose them" stage, and to be dominant the team will need him to win a few. The Bears should win that game, and they're going to win it on the lines...the Bills offensive line especially I don't think will be able to hold up to that Bears defensive front.
