  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) Doesn't matter. Ortiz and Jeter will both almost definitely get more votes than Dye. It all depends on September. Dye keeps up this pace for another month, I'll lay you very solid odds he'll win. Vlad the Impaler won in 04 with a dominant September that propelled his team to a division title, despite the fact that others had more home runs or higher averages than he did. If JD puts up September Numbers similar to his August numbers, and this team makes the playoffs or even better wins the division, I think he'll have a real, real good shot.
  4. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 05:09 PM) Our pitching was also a hundred times better last year than it is now. Given that, I'll take 2/3 against the D-Rays. Sweeps are icing on the cake and it's unreasonable to expect the Sox (or any other team) to sweep anybody... even the bottom-feeders. Winning each series is a more reasonable goal. If the Sox win 2/3 of their next 29 games, they'll end up with 97 wins. That'll almost certainly get them the Wild Card... and possibly the division title if the Tigers continue to suck. The other side of that token though is this...if we were to sweep a team, that leaves us room to go 1/3 against a team, say Minnesota, or Detroit, or Oakland, etc., and still be able to come up with 97 wins.
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) So your saying the Tigers can still be caught? If we get pitching, no doubt in my mind.
  6. How many catchers can 2 teams possibly swap in 1 season?
  7. The U.S. Forces in Iraq have been increased back to 140,000, up from 127,000 a month or so ago.
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) I'll also mention that there are only like 2 teams in the entire AL(that have a shot in hell) that are playing good baseball right now - Oakland and Minnesota - and neither effect our race. I believe we have to actually play both of those teams as well.
  9. I'll be optimistic...Javier Vazquez gave up 2 runs in 6 innings today. I'd be thrilled to get that from him the rest of the year. Our bullpen is good enough to win most games, even if it had a let down today. If we just get a little bit of pitching, we'll take this division.
  10. Oh, if she wanted to, she could just find a hotel, and make some money in the process. Trust me.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) I talked about Roberts in one of the off-season threads. I think its possible, but I think we could do a little better. But with Roberts possibly leaving SD, I also think if we tried to package Fields-Pods-Broadway, could that be enough to land Peavy? How about Pods+Garcia+someone else? Back on the west coast with Garcia, to the NL, big-ass stadium, young pitching staff? Pretty good situation for him.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) Heard something about the Dodgers.... Yeah, and Boston asked for Matt Kemp. The entire population of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area did spit takes/shot their drinks out of their nose when they heard about that. Where's the Windex?
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Jerry Owens isn't half the fielder BA is. He'll also never hit for power, gets thrown out way too much for that speed, is mediocre in LF and has a noodle arm. We've already got a guy like that. Can he hit better than .250? Cause I could live with that.
  14. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) As for both Lieberman and potentially Chaffee, neither of them should be able to run as indys. There should be an election law that states if you run in a contested primary and lose, you are done. Several states do have those, such as Ohio, however, Connecticut is not one of them. Interestingly, they're nicknamed "Sore Loser" laws.
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) Why is it that when the voters speak this time... that it isn't good enough in the past two presidential elections? This time, Joe's supposed to bow out and be gracious, but HELL NO, GORE WAS ROBBED, and KERRY WAS ROBBED! Seems a bit hypocritical to me. Um, technically...Gore did get more votes... And weren't there quite a few calls for Gore to bow out and be gracious from the moment the legal challenges in Florida started? I'm sure you remember the Sore Loserman shirts.
  16. That was thoroughly unpleasant. All around bad. Seriously, we get 6 innings and 2 runs from Vazquez and we can't win the game. How often does that happen?
  17. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) McClungs stats are horrific... I hate taking Anderson out there...Pods stinks and BA is hitting, so Ozzie hits for the guy who is hitting and leaves the automatic out in? WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE LEARN THAT BRIAN ANDERSON CAN'T HIT RIGHT HANDERS!!!! EVER! HE HAS NEVER HIT THEM! EVER! NEVER EVER! NOT EVEN EARLIER TODAY!
  18. QUOTE(PlunketChris @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) And this board will still continue to talk about how great it was that we didn't trade him.. And next year, you'll see why.
  19. We could really use a strikeout here of Norton. Edit never mind, we're pitching to Navarro. Hopefully BMac can get that 2 seamer working, Navarro is 3/4 with a homer today.
  20. BMac in. This should be his game until it ends.
  21. Ok, Pierzynski leads off the 9th...advances to first on a strikeout with a ball in the dirt, Pablo pinch runs, steals 2nd, and Crede doubles him in off the left field wall. Who's with me?
  22. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) easy there... he's not barry bonds yet Still, I'd rather have him leading off the 10th than coming up in the 9th with someone on base.
