  1. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:10 AM) You are forgetting that this is the NL we are talking about.... 3 games and only 2 in the loss column is not much. Yes, but you're also forgetting that this is the NL. There's only 1 really decent team there, which means that the odds of having what happened to the Red Sox, complete demolition of one of those contenders, happen to the teams in front of the Marlins is also pretty unlikely. There's just no obvious juggernaut that is going to come steamrolling through and kill off one or two of those teams to make things easier. The Marlins look to be about a .500 team this year, but so do a lot of other teams, and it doesn't look like any of those teams are bad enough to just fall out of it.
  2. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Ugh. 36. Not a good age for a big contributor to a team with championship aspirations. The New York Yankees say hi.
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) So platooning Anderson against lefties when he hits righties much better helped his development? Explain that one to me. Explain to me how keeping Anderson on the bench for 4 of the first 6 games against the Tigers and Twins, so that we lose way too many of those games, helps too.
  4. Rove doesn't belong in jail if he wasn't the one who did the leaking and he never lied to the grand jury. But it is darn interesting that as soon as someone else did the leaking, his first response was to go around spreading the information in an effort to do the smearing.
  5. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) Marlins owner refuses to endorse Girardi as manager for next year. What a deusch. That manager of the year trophy is going to look real good on Girardi's resume this offseason.

    Pointless Facts

According to the 1976 IRS Handbook, in the event of nuclear war, the essential functions of the Internal Revenue Service will be: assessing, collecting, and recording taxes.
  7. Whichever one of them wins games. I don't care which of them does it. All 5 have it within them to go unbeaten the rest of the season. They're all that good, and we've known that all year. Whichever one finds that they have marbles is the most important.
  8. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 07:06 AM) Does anyone else find it retarded to declare a war on things like cancer and drugs? WTF does that even mean? Or for that matter, on terrorism? (not, say, on Al Qaeda). That's the problem. We have only 1 metaphor available to us in this culture for something we want to accomplish; war. We like war, we like winning war, so we declare war on things.
  9. He'll probably wind up around 35 barring a real hot streak. And it's well worth the $.
  10. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) Geez, it takes about 5 minutes for a White Sox loser thread to get to about 10 pages. Where the hell is everybody? This was the biggest win of the season. We could not get swept by these clowns again. Gutsy performance by Mark Buehrle today. And who was that guy out there for the Sox today? The white dude who wears #22? I didn't recognize him at all. Sorry, had to drive fiance in to work. Welcome back Mark. We've missed you. Don't ever leave again.
  11. QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) The time is right. I'm going to assume that this post and thread were created in March, 2006, and somehow were lost in internet-land until tonight.
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) Even in a loss I try to look for a positive and the positive is the White Sox came back and never gave up. It doesn't make anyone feel better, as a matter of fact it feels like we just got eliminated in the playoffs and there is no tomorrow. But if the White Sox play with the intensity they played with tonight, they're going to win tomorrow. When you talk about playing with intensity, 2 plays immediately come to my mind. 1. Luis Castillo's ground ball to Iguchi off of Jenks in the 9th. Iguchi charges, but not hard/fast enough, and Castillo is close enough to be called safe. 2. Scott Podsednik grounds to Castillo in the bottom of the 9th. Castillo dives, gets the ball, and throws Podsednik out by 3 steps. I looked at those 2 plays and thought that hands down, 1 team wanted this game more than the other. BMac, JD, yeah there were a couple of guys with some intensity. But I didn't see it in the rest of them.
  13. 1 second...does anyone realize that the argument here, in the "Ozzie Guillen battleground thread", is that you can't put 100% of the blame on Ozzie for the loss? Of course it's not 100% his fault. But way more of it was his fault than should have been.
  14. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) The game was not lost by Ozzie. It was lost by Cintron and AJ who couldn't get more than one run home with the bases loaded and only one out. It was lost by Uribe, making an error on a ball he normally sucks up. It was lost by Iguchi, grounding in to a double play for the final two outs of the game, leaving the best hitter in the AL on deck. It was not lost by Ozzie. Yes, if he did things a bit differently, then maybe the Sox would have won, but it's far from being his fault when placing the blame for this game on someone. The only 2 people I can think of who did not have a hand in losing tonight's game are Brandon McCarthy and Jermaine Dye. It's just a matter of proportion. Hell, I thought Jenks should have been left in for the 11th.
  15. We beat Joe Nathan for the first time in 3 years, and somehow, it's still not good enough.
  16. This is the worst loss for the White Sox since the game in 2003 that Loaiza started against the Twins when he had a cold.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) If Pods is running, he better be 100 pct certain he'll make it. 100% is not good enough. 135% at least.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) Was Gload playing up on that Punto liner with 2 outs? I thought that is what Farmer said. Yup. And I don't think any of us have any idea why.
  19. I will shoot Podsednik if he turns into an out. I will literally kill him if he does anything that stops Dye from coming up.
  20. Finally, a bunt hit. WOW. I remember those.
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) Remember Uribe's error? Yeah.... Remember the 2 balls that went over Mack's head in Center Field when he started his 4th game at that position in the last 6?
  22. It's like they're trying to find a way to make each successive loss more heart-breaking than the one before it. And succeeding.
  23. If Jenks had it in him I would have left him in for 3. He looked very good in the 10th, only threw 24 pitches.
