  1. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) I can't believe anyone would complain about complaints about Hawk in this thread, but not complain about the thread being highjacked to talk about Hulk Hogan. Hulk Hogan has a terrible strike zone. He's always giving the outside corner to our opponents.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) FWIW, I asked my fiance if I could come down the aisle to "Real American", but she said no. I've been trying for "Don't stop believin'", but that hasn't succeeded either. Of course, my first choice would still be the Imperial March.
  3. Look! A stolen base! Aggressive baseball! EEK!
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) ugh...that hole in LF against lefties keeps getting bigger. Mackowiak....Oh wait, never mind, just looked at his numbers against lefties.
  5. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) Just got home from work, anyone want to summarize the game thus far? 2-2. Buehrle struggling but not totally dead yet. 2 run home run by Reggie Sanders, solo shot by Crede, double by Crede & RBI double by Alomar.
  6. For a moment Gameday posted that as in play, no outs recorded, and i'm wondering how the hell we kept the guy at 3rd.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) The Ozuna magic in the first half of the season would have made that ball drop. Jphat...is he 1 for back from injury? 1/23 in July.
  8. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) When/why did the Royals acquire him? Got him in one of them pre-deadline deals for Elmer Dessens, along with a couple minor league guys and some cash. Hoping he can regain some form, I guess. Has put up an ERA around 3 in the NL before.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Thome out with back spasms? Huh? Something else wrong with him?
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) Wind blowing out to left tonight. It's going to be a long night for at least one of these pitchers. Last time Ozuna played in this outfield with it being windy, he had a terrible defensive night. In other words, Mark needs to keep the ball down. Which is exactly what he's needed to do for about 5 starts.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) It's not that they have the best record, it's that they're the best team, playing the best baseball, in the best division. And we're wearing the prettiest rings. That makes us the team to beat until we're out of it, IMO. The White Sox were the best team playing the best baseball last year, and the Red Sox were the team to beat until the White Sox did so.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) The Tigers are the team to beat in the AL, we need to get that stright. At this point last year, I was still saying the Red Sox were the team to beat in the AL. I said that until they were beaten. The team having the best record is not "The team to beat", the defending champs are.
  13. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) Wow. What a lineup. I think I kinda like it. For once at least everything seems to make sense to me. Cintron is hitting .300 against this pitcher, ok plug him in. Buehrle wants Alomar, ok he's in. Thome's hurt, ok Gload. JP Howell melts down almost as well as Vazquez. Sean Casey gets his first RBI for the Tigers, 2-2 in the 2nd.
  14. Ozuna, LF Iguchi, 2b Dye, RF Konerko, DH Crede, 3B Cintron, SS Alomar, C Gload, 1b Anderson, CF Buehrle, P DeJesus, CF Grudzielanek, 2B Teahen, 3B Sanders, RF Brown, LF Shealy, 1b German, DH Philips, C Berroa, SS Perez, P
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Having Fields lead off would be pretty freakin ugly imo. If he plays next season, I'd expect him to have an obp of about .330 with at least 180 k's. Josh will hit for some power right away if he gets up here, but I expect himt to have a rougher start than BA did, I really do. Aside from the strikeouts, that's really not that much worse than Podsednik. I see where you're coming from on the K's though.
  16. 2-0 Tampa in the 1st against Verlander.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) You then go out and get a long man/sixth starter to take the spot of Mac, bring up Stewart, and sign a good defensive 4th outfielder.... If Ozzie actually plays Anderson every day like he should, this is seriously not a concern. Mack can spot you in CF a couple times a month if you really need it, and he's quite good on the corners. He just should not be a platoon CF.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) I think the best position to look for a new leadoff hitter is SS. Sure Uribe is fun to watch and all and during his streaks he can carry a team. But it would be nice to have his bat helping more often because this season most of it he has been a hole in our lineup and while still good his defensive hasnt been as good. OK, let's brainstorm then, what potential names are there playing SS right now who could be leadoff hitters for the right team? Eckstein - SS - under contract for 1 more year IIRC Renteria - Braves - huge contract with Boston paying 1/2 of it for the Braves, was terrible in the AL Cabrera - Angels - huge contract, good numbers, but the Halos are very reluctant to make trades Hanley Ramirez - Florida - no reason I can think of why they'd give him up Izturis - Cubs - very low OBP Anyone got any others?
  19. QUOTE(ChiSoxLifer @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) I think it's a decent idea as the Indians use Grady Sizemore as a leadoff hitter and he's not the protypical leadoff man. However, do you want to put that much pressure on a rookie on a contending team? If it came down to Podsednik and Fields as my 2 leadoff options next season, I don't think I'd mind seeing Fields there. I think I would mind seeing Sweeney there right now, as Fields' numbers fit that spot a little better, if his numbers translate. Fields also has quite a few more steals than Sweeney (19/24 for Josh, 5/11 for Ryan this season). QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Just a hunch, but I will be shocked in Pods is with the Sox in 07.... I'm really hoping we can find a team that needs a veteran starting pitcher and an outfielder this offseason. The Cardinals actually do come to my mind really quickly.
  20. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:04 PM) Have you been hanging out with Freddy Garcia lately? lol I really would like that but Sweeney is still a year away. Does anybody know how many yrs are left on pods contract. Podsednik is under our control for several more years, at least through the end of 08 IIRC.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) I have mentioned a few times, let the voters in Sugarland determine his fate. I don't think I'd complain about that at all. Especially since eventually, 12 of the voters in Texas will also wind up determining his fate. On the other hand, I wouldnt' mind seeing Rep. Jefferson resign, so maybe the only reason I wouldn't mind Delay going before the voters again is to see him acutally go down in flames.
  22. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) you are incorrect, my friend. I lean towards Mr. Genius on this one, Perot likely took more votes from Bush than Clinton, but at some scale, he almost certainly took votes from both. The question of course is whether he took the 5 million or so additional votes from Bush that would have been needed to swing that election the other way. I think it's possible, but I don't know if there's data that can prove one way or the other.
