  1. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 08:40 AM) Olney reported this morning the the Tigers would be willing to give up right handed pitching prospect Humberto Sanchez for the deal for Soriano. I believe this is the player the nationals were holding out for to complete the deal. I'm not sure I buy this, because if it were true, I think the deal would already be done. Just as it would already be done if the Sox were willing to part with McCarthy, or the Angels with ESantana.
  2. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 08:41 AM) What happens when our bullpen is expended and we can't hold any leads later in the season? Right now, our bullpen has a ton of talent in it, and it's still pitched the fewest innings in baseball. There's no reason our bullpen can't take on some degree of additional work. The oldest guy in our bullpen is 29 years old if I'm remembering correctly.
  3. The Israeli attack on the U.N. outpost lasted for about 6 hours, from the time the first shells fell. The moment the shells started falling, the U.N. people got on the phones and started begging the Israelis to stop. Calls went out to the Israeli mission at the U.N., and from U.N. Generals on the ground directly to the IDF begging the Israelis to stop shooting. The direct hits that killed the U.N. people happened after all of these pleas were ignored. The Israelis continued firing even after more U.N. forces went in to retrieve the bodies. The BBC has even more details. The UN forces in South Lebanon contacted the IDF at least 10 times once the shelling started, pleading with the Israelis to stop. I can't tell if they mean to include it in those 10 contacts or not, but a Senior Irish Soldier in the area also contacted the IDF 6 times. Each time, the IDF assured the U.N. they would stop attacking the site. After 6 hours of shelling, the site was hit directly with a precision guided missile.
  4. Harry Reid is yet another victim of Identity Theft. In response, Congress will make it easier for identity theft to happen in another attempt to cut costs for the credit industry. Congress says it only has about 200 million to go before it reaches its goal of having everyone in America be the victim of Identity Theft.
  5. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 08:13 AM) Why doesn't JD bat 3 and Thome bat 5. I just don't get it. Thome last time I checked was #2 in the AL in runs scored. That's why. He gets on base like a crazy man with those walks he takes, and the decent batting average, and thus sets up RBI opportunities for the bombers behind him. You put him in the 5 spot, you have Crede and AJ hitting behind him. He'll have a few more chances to drive in runs because of Konerko's OBP, but He'll have a lot less chances to score runs because he won't have Konerko and Dye to drive him in.

    PC question

If your system restore disks are set up along the lines of the mess of a Gateway that I had to deal with as an undergrad, you should be able to format the drive and install all of the OS off of the disks, assuming the disks work right (as with almost everything else on that Gateway, the System Restore disks were bad also). If it doesn't work though, here's a tip; find a college student to talk to. Most colleges have deals with Microsoft where students can buy CD's of the OS for reasonable prices (At Indiana, it was $5. After the Gateway crapped 95% of the way out, I waited a month for XP to be released and just bought a new disk, that actually fixed most of my problems with that PC)
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Hmm, this is something I brought up a few weeks ago, a possible swap of Fields for Linebrink. A little late but another source says that the two teams did have talks involving Josh Fields. http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padre...26padnotes.html I don't think any of us should be surprised that it was discussed. In theory it would fit for both teams, but I think that the price on our side was too high. I think I'm happier with the righty reliever we wound up with.
  9. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) Due to the loss the Brewers took today dropping them 5.5 games out of the Wild Card and 11.5 games out of 1st in their division. One could only assume that GM Doug Melvin will take a serious consideration to any trade offers on the table to release CLee. With that in mind, i am interested to see what takes place in regards to the value of Soriano in the OF market as i stated earlier. This makes the top three most wanted players in the trades all corner OF's. With Soriano being the only player without solid experience in the OF Supposedly, last I heard was that tomorrow was the day the Brewers were going to make their final decision on whether or not to dump Lee, try to sign him now, or hold him and take the draft picks. By the way, has anyone other than me noticed that Baltimore is pretty close to Washington D.C., and the White Sox are headed to Baltimore? We could even afford to pay for the gas to get Soriano to the ballpark on Friday.
  10. I still can't believe that every pitcher on our starting staff except for Jose Contreras could put up numbers THIS MUCH worse than their career numbers (And Contreras is still down from where he was at the end of last year/beginning of this year too). At some point, the numbers say these people have to turn it around.
  11. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) Wouldn't piggy backing Vazquez on McCarthy's first 2-3 starts be a good solution to this problem? So what happens the next time Mark Buehrle gives up 8 runs in the first inning and has to be pulled?
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) Can I do my leggs instead? It does work surprisingly well. Perhaps if we had Podsednik do it, we'd add some speed on the basepaths (by reducing air resistance.)
  13. Brandon should not "Spot start". Spot starting would hurt whatever rhythm he has developed in the bullpen, it would hurt the bullpen because it would take him a few starts to be able to go beyond 4-5 innings, and it could hurt by throwing off any rhythm that any other starting pitchers might find. If Brandon goes into the rotation, he DOES NOT leave it.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) They can either go two ways with this. Promote Ryan Garko to take over at 1st base, or let Kelly Shoppach be the everyday C and let Martinez start at 1B. I think they're going to go for the former, but the latter sounds like a better idea to me, providing that Shoppach could actually hit well enough to be an everyday catcher. I just checked, and Garko's only hitting about .250 in AAA this year, with an OPS of .774. He may be on his way in the upwards direction, but just based on the full season numbers I'm not so sure he's earned a promotion. He hit .303 with an .882 OPS at AAA last year.
  15. Whatever you do, just don't strap it on. We got another email here...
  16. I want a bench clearing 20 minute brawl, causing 1/2 of each team to wind up with 10 game suspensions. Someone convince one of their pitchers to go headhunting.
  17. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) Although, even with this knowledge, I can't honestly fault Guillen for how he currently assembles his lineup. His reluctant to play Anderson -- once a peeve of mine -- has diminished quite a bit. Yes, certain matchups against a pitcher have been strange, but our bench is relatively deep. Or atleast it appeared so until this recent slump. Guillen can't help but tinker. Ozzie's Reluctance to play Anderson has diminished? I'm afraid I barely see that. Take today as a prime example. Anderson has faced Silva 5 times already in his career, is 3/5 with a home run. But because Silva's a righty, Ozzie decides to play matchup, and once again, Anderson winds up on the bench, and Mack is out in CF. For once it probably didn't cost us not having BA out there on defense, because balls just left the yard, but today really pissed me off with that. (Mack was 1/2 against Silva coming into this game) The same thing with Iguchi today too...Iguchi's barely hitting .200 against lefties, but he's hitting well over .300 against righties this season. Cintron has been better against lefties than righties as well. So what does Ozzie do this series? Iguchi plays against Santana, as tough of a lefty as you'll find. And then Cintron plays against the righty. And on top of that, he plays against a righty that he's 0/4 in his career against. I usually don't beach about Ozzie's lineups, because I like his strategery of making sure everyone is rested. But I'm really getting sick of the flapping "lefty-righty" matchup with him and how it determines EVERY single decision he makes, regardless of what the numbers actually say.
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:02 PM) I'd like to ask, why is everyone so rock solid certain that Brandon would automatically be lights out as a starter, seeing as he's only been moderately successful in his bullpen role? And not the usual stock answer "well he's better than we have now", I would like to know how people on SoxTalk are able to ascertain with absolute certainty that he'd be better than what's in the rotation now. And no I am not happy with their current results, not one bit. Why is McCarthy the savior though? Sounds like the backup QB syndrome to me. As I pointed out in the game thread, Brandon has been more than Moderately successful when he's given a bullpen role. 3 months this season he has pitched regularly out of the bullpen, April, June, and July. His ERA's in those months are 3.38, 3.2, and 2.7. In 1 month, he did not get regular work out of the bullpen, made 1 spot start, and went at least a week and a half between appearances. That month, his ERA is over 6. When he has had a firm role in the bullpen, he has been successful. When he's been screwed around with, not gotten opportunities to pitch, or been shifted around for single starts and then gone over a week without pitching, he was off, like most pitchers would be.
  19. You want a great "The media has no ability to understand a joke" segment? Colbert Report, last night.
  20. Ozzie praising the Hell out of Minnesota, refusing to point fingers. Not going to consider putting McCarthy in the rotation. Didn't really even talk to the team after the game.
  21. At least 8 Israeli soldiers died fighting in a Hezbollah stronghold today. Arab TV was saying 14.
  22. 1-5 on this homestand. 3-12 in our last 15. 2-10 since the AS break.
  23. First of all, who do you actually have the A's giving up there? Bobby Kielty and someone named Taveras for Roger Clemens? Wow. That's a steal on their part. And the Astros are simply not trading Clemens. He practically pays for himself just in the extra attendence they get at that park from having him pitch every few days.
  24. QUOTE(dyenamite23 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) does anyone think there is a chance clemens is moved he goes to the a's and we get zito just my thoughts not any rumor NO.
