  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) And Cintron can rest Uribe who cant hit. Uribe is 12/23 in his career with 3 home runs against Silva.
  2. Detroit puts a 3 spot on Captain Cheeseburger in the 6th inning. Verlander with a shutout through 5. 3-0 Detroit. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) I was almost positive Granderson must have hurt himself on that inside the park homer..luckily he didn't. It was nice to see Colon pitch well, and Inge made a nice play at 3rd. Granderson out of the lineup today, but inserted in the bottom of the 6th.
  3. Minnesota's backup catcher is hitting .339.
  4. Podsednik, LF Cintron, 2b Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Dye, RF Pierzynski, C Crede, 3b Mackowiak, CF Uribe, SS I flippin hate this lineup. Anderson is 3/5 against Silva with a dong this season. Iguchi is 3/5 against him. Cintron is 0/4. Mack is 1/2. Castillo, 2b Punto, 3b Redmond, C Cuddyer, RF Morneau, 1B White, LF Rabe, DH Tyner, CF Bartlett, SS
  5. The Royals also moved Tony Graffanino to the Brewers for pitcher Jorge De La Rosa. Linky.
  6. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) They should get back quality prospects. Tell me what contender is going to move young, cheap, quality players so they can acquire an aging, slow, beat up, poor defensive shortstop who makes $13 million? The Orioles are going nowhere with Tejada. They have some nice young pitching in their farm system, but no one who is ready now, and probably not ready to pitch well next year either. A slow, beat up shortstop? The guy's hitting .329 with 18 home runs and 70 RBIs this season. Tell me what team is going to move a shortstop putting up those kind of numbers if they're not getting back something incredibly valuable in return? What sort of prospect level would you expect them to get back in return for moving a guy like that? If I'm baltimore, I'm demanding something along the lines of a potential #1 starter next year, or a potential all star within 2 years, or something like that. There's no reason to dump that guy unless it's going to make you better immediately or it's going to make you vastly better in 2-3 years.
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) After the Israelis accidentally hit a U.N. bunker in Lebanon, Kofi Annan throws fuel on the fire by calling the attack "deliberate." Way to go, Kofi! That's the type of leadership that we need from the U.N. Link Not saying he's right, but it's worth asking; how exactly do you know it was an accident?
  8. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) CLee has great D? Are you serious? He throws lollypops back to the infield, doesn't cover much ground. You might be able to say he has very few errors, but that goes for any OF. In terms of qualified Left Fielders playing defense, here are your bottom 5 in MLB (in order):
  9. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) You're right. Pods, Ozuna, and Cintron are "slowish power hitters." Considering that I don't think any of them have stolen a base in the last week, that must be what they are, because they're not acting like speed guys.
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) If you want to talk about FO's wanting too much, you can look no further than Baltimore. Forget getting any players worth a damn from Peter Angelos. The Tigers recently inquired about Tejada, and were told they would need to be willing to include Verlander or Bonderman to even enter the discussion. What a joke that franchise is now. And it used to be so solid. Why exactly does Baltimore need to get rid of Tejada without getting back a potential star? Its not like he has a bad contract, it's not like he's currently begging to leave. If they add a few arms around him, he could be a key part of building a really good team there.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Yes. I don't think he's healthy, in fact I don't think he's been healthy for the last 11 months, which is why the Soriano chatter makes sense. If he's healthy, then either he's not in good shape or his brain just isn't there. 0 steals in the last week, 5 in July altogether.
  12. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Good point. However, I seem to recall some dissatisfaction with Sandy's game calling and/or CERA his last time around with the Sox. Well, the alternative for comparison at the time was Miguel Olivo...so...
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 05:24 AM) Hillary! joins the Joementum Interesting how that story, like quite a few others, points out that Hillary and Bill are both supporting Lieberman in the primary, but they leave out the other key fact...they've both pledged to support whoever wins the primary when they run in the general, regardless of whether or not Joe runs as an independent. (There are at least a few people who are wondering if Bill and Hillary may have made Joe not running as an independent if he loses a precondition for their open support in the primary, but that's just speculation, even if it would make sense.)
  14. Mason-Dixon poll on the Tennessee race. Ford does have one advantage in that he's outraised all 3 of his potential GOP opponents combined, so he has the cash to make up some ground.
  15. I think a very interesting part of this matter is the fact that the Bush Administration has known about the plant the Pakistanis were building for quite some time, but Congress only found out this week, and not from the White House.
  16. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 08:24 AM) KW always makes trades on Wednesdays it seems Except when he's dealing for Mike MacDougal? Or Sandy Alomar Jr.?
  17. Carl Crawford will require, by all accounts, Brandon McCarthy to be moved. Tampa has asked for Ervin Santana + one of the Angels other studs for him, and without getting that, they just said no thanks.
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:29 AM) So this the type of team we got away from in '05? Of the 8 regular postion players, 7 of them were regulars last year. Anderson replaced Rowand in CF. Then the addition of Thome as DH to replace Everett or Thomas. Where is the big change over that mad us go from a scrappy small ball time to a bunch of slow thumpers? It happened in Scott Podsednik's legs.
  19. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:14 AM) Actually, I think that most people are calling him not an upgrade. And that isn't because of one game with the Sox. That is basically because 1. He was done being a decent major league player about 3 years ago. 2. He was only good enough to be the Rockies #3 catcher. 3. He's about 47 years old now. 4. His hitting and defensive skills have deteriorated to approximately the level of your average American Legion baseball player. But he is a great clubhouse guy! 2 points. First, Alomar was the Dodgers' Number 3 catcher, not the Rockies'. Secondly, I think a lot of people are forgetting one of the other things that this whole board was going after Widger for...his pitch calling. Remember all those discussions of his Catcher ERA this year? Remember how people were complaining about him only calling pitches away and never going inside? There are more ways to make improvements than just by finding a bat off the bench.
  20. I for one think a better metaphor for right now is the 03 White Sox of the first half. Not good enough pitching to cope with a struggling offense.
  21. 49 pitches for Jose through 3, 51 pitches for Santana through 3. At least we're making Johan work for it.
  22. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) Cmon BA. Hit a HR before the 9th inning. Given who he's facing today, I'd settle for a single. Well fathom, there's your first pitch swinging.
  23. 49 pitches for Jose through 3 innings. He's laboring somewhat.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) Uribe went out and got that first pitch fastball. It will be interesting if we change our approach as the game goes on. Time for an Alomar flare. When does Uribe not try and go out to get the first pitch fastball?
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) It looks like we're taking until we get a strike. Santana's just going to throw first pitch fastball, and our hitter will be down in the count. We've tried to work the count against Santana in the past, and he'd make it to the 7th giving up like one run. Yeah, but when we've tried not being patient, and swinging at either the first or second pitch, Santana will make it to the 9th inning and give up 1 run.
