  1. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 01:15 PM) No way Ozzie will be suspended. Ozzie probably already has a suspension coming for Riske's plunking last night, if the Johnson/Torre experience is any guide.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) To me its the equivlent of someone saying another person is racist, and that person saying well I have a black friend.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) That is the one thing that I do firmly believe is that the states are just as much as fault for this, as the federal government is. The states have the ability to recognize their own individual needs more than the feds do, and there is nothing to stop them from taking up this same legistlation. While I do agree with you, I also feel it's worth pointing out that for many states, it's not a concidence that their minimum wage sits at exactly the federal level...the state laws are written such that as the federal wage changes, their state minimum wages change proportionally. For example:
  4. QUOTE(wallyburger @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) Okay. How does the word Pussy fit into his WNBA and Madonna Concert rationale. Only pussies attend WNBA games and Madonna concerts???? Can anyone name any other sport with an active currently open homosexual player? (counting Martina as retired, I think).?
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) In Illinois it's $6.50 for individuals 18 years of age and older, unless the employer is exempt. Some examples of being exempt are having less than 4 full time employees, agricultural workers, outside salespeople, religious corps, and some student workers. It was $5.50 per hour in 2004. Lots of states have theirs set higher than the national level. In California it's currently $6.75, and governor Ass-grabber keeps vetoing attempts to raise it. You can see where each state currently is set at this page.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) OMG. That is bad. I just remembered it got hiked to that when I was in high school working at Blockbuster. Last hike = 1997. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) If we are going to have a minimum wage, it should be indexed to inflation with an increase or decrease automatically every year. Hell its good enough for Congress, the Vice President, and the Supreme Court, why isn't good enough for everyone else? They also do it with things like SSI payments, disability benefits etc.
  7. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) That is my main gripe with it. It should reflect inflation, without a doubt. Especially with gas prices. People have to drive to work and if the are still making $6/hr or whatever MW is, how are they expected to support themselves. At the federal level, it's only $5.15 per hour.
  8. George W. Bush desecrates an American Flag.
  9. Stephen Hawking was warned that every equation he put in his book "A Brief History of Time" would cost him several thousand readers. He only put in 1, E=M*C^2. I think referring to form 1040's in posts has that same effect.
  10. QUOTE(CardsJimEdmonds15 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Marquis is our 2nd best pitcher and that's very sad.. I do however have confidence in him unlike the other starters save Carp.. I dont feel that good tonight but I hope it's a better game and we somehow sneak this one out.. Your biggest problem with Marquis on the mound? You're in an AL park, so the DH rule is in effect.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) I agree with that, but I as under the impresion that this school of thought -- that Jung is defensive minded -- was the conventional wisdom. At least, that it's the convention wisdom coupled with the fact that he wants to be considered a real leader on teh global stage and not, you know, get mocked as much. By the way, by "provokation" I mean I believe it's an attempt to show us that he CAN fight back, and to, thus, try to use it as leverage for some sort of aid from Korea and Japan and us. The only problem with thinking that Kim is defensive minded is Pakistan...meaning that the North Koreans and the Pakistanis reportedly worked together quite a bit on their nuclear programs, Pakistan helping korea with the bomb building and North Korea shipping missile technology back in return. So while Kim himself may be working solely towards protecting his own country, in the process of protecting his own country, he can very easily hurt the U.S.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Howell was pretty good at the University of Texas and has a nice breaking ball. Haven't looked at his numbers anytime soon, but I thought he was doing pretty good in the minors and I swore he already has made his debut at the major league level. And I think Gaithright is incredibly over-rated. Still, he's a great athlete and I doubt Howell will ever be anything more than a 3rd starter (at its best).
  13. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Aren't the D-Rays rumored to be wanting mostly pitching for Crawford? With what they have in terms of minor league OF, I doubt Anderson would be one of their targets. Fields would be higher up than Anderson in my opinion, then the rest of what they would want would be pitching. If a trade is made for Crawford, then I think you would see Anderson paired with him for a long long time. You will not get Carl Crawford without dealing Brandon McCarthy. There will probably be more parts to the deal, but plain and simple, we will not wind up with both Carl Crawford in LF and Brandon McCarthy in our organization.
  14. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 10:41 AM) Bad news? I would love for the Tigers to make that trade. I can stand a half a year from a declining John Smoltz if it gets the next 5 years of Zumaya out of the AL. Smoltz is not what he used to be. A move to the AL would show this even more. Sure the Tigers improve for this season, but they lose a lot for the long run. Zumaya is special. But here's the other side of the token...if the Tigers do want to get John Smoltz, a guy with more playoff experience than probably their entire roster combined, a world series ring, a long record of pitching both out of the pen and in the rotation, it's going to cost them something along the lines of Zumaya. There's no reason the Braves can't just pencil Smoltz in as their opening day starter next year unless someone makes them an offer good enough.
  15. Mark will either come out tonight and dominate the Cardinals or he will get shelled by the Cardinals. Don't forget which uniform you're wearing Mark!
  16. Great! Now get working kid, you're gonna bring us some nice shiny new players next year! (J/K, perhaps).
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) Im actually kind of pleased. No bill is better than a s***ty bill. So wait, now you're willing to admit that there's no crisis that we can't wait to solve? I thought there were 15 million undocumented immigrants here and they were pushing the U.S. to the point of bankruptcy, and we couldn't wait another moment before getting rid of them!
  18. I remember being at a 17-4 game in 2000 against Seattle. That was fun. This was fun too.
  19. QUOTE(T R U @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) Kansas City sent one of their best pitching prospects for him, I wouldnt say it cost little How much value is there in being "One of Kansas City's best pitching prospects"?
  20. Just think, all those posts, rendered meaningless...
  21. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) IIRC, 11 runs ties the AL record also owned by our 2000 team. According to Baseball Almanac.com, the record for most runs in an inning in the AL is 17, by the 1953 Red Sox.
  22. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) Alright. Then he left his A game in 2003. And, IMO, there's a reason he left back then. All 9 people in our lineup have hits this inning.
  23. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 20, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) I think we can say Mulder did not bring his A game. IMO, this is Mulder's A game these days.
  24. I really hope Cooper has Javy on the Jose Contreras "Find your stuff the 2nd half of the season" path.
  25. If only my newfound powers worked in this forum. Somehow, I think this thread isn't going to remain open much longer.
