  1. So, the one thing I will note is that the Sons of Sam Horn, and Boston's media in general, appear to have soured rather quickly on Riske. He's been described thus far as inconsistent, among other things.
  2. Let us know if anyone says there's a chance he could be available tonight.
  3. Several members of the Congressional Black Caucus seem to be backing down from their support of Rep. Jefferson. Very good to hear.
  4. Still nothing on the wire services to confirm this report, but I can at least tell you It makes sense from the Bosox side.
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) The rabid dogs (aka ultra-libs) have almost completed their 'quest'... first, get Congress pissy and torn apart. Second, get GWB's poll #'s down. And if none of that works to get us out of Iraq, start pissing all over the soldiers. Nice. So, your suggestion is to ignore any allegation of illegal action on the part of our troops because it might hurt pro-war opinion?
  6. By the way folks, in terms of Javier retaliating after the first time AJ was hit... AJ was hit to lead off the 2nd inning. The leadoff hitter in the bottom of the 2nd was Hank Blalock, who homered (would have been nice to hit him instead, eh?) After that, Javy struck out DeRosa and Mench before Walking Kinsler. Barajas, their catcher, came up with 2 outs, but with a man on 1st, and you don't hit a guy and push a runner into scoring position. In the 3rd inning, Javy gave them enough baserunners as it was anyway. So if he wanted to go after the catcher or the DH, he couldn't do it until after the warnings were issued. The only good candidate would have been Kinsler, as he came up with 2 outs in the 3rd, but Javy had already given up a run that inning, so you don't always want to give them another baserunner then either.
  7. Don't follow the lights Mark! Seriously, if you really believe they had lights in CF or something, pitch a gem. Best revenge you can get.
  8. Seems that His Back bothered him most of spring training also.
  9. Riske was placed on the DL on April 12th, retroactive to April 5th, the last day he had pitched. The problem was a lower back strain. He began throwing again at the start of May, and completed a rehab assignment on May 22nd. He was Called up on May 23rd when David Wells went back on the DL. Seems the strain was pretty severe.
  10. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) What are Riske's stats? 0-1 this year, 3.72 ERA, 1.14 WHIP. Full Riske Stats.
  11. This is an excellent deal. Boston's bullpen is without a lefty reliever that I would call remotely reliable, and the White Sox needed another righty reliever. Riske was good, not great but good, with Cleveland last year, and his absence due to the Marte/Crisp deal has really hurt the Tribe.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) He's only had 9.2 IP, was he hurt or something? Was on the 15 day DL, I don't know how long, came off on May 23rd.
  13. Well, I have to admit, I'm thoroughly impressed. George W. Bush seems to have actually done something wonderful for the environment. And as far as I can tell, there's no cynical reason behind it at all. It actually is a genuinely good environmental move. Link. Sure, it's a gigantic flip-flop. Sure, Big Pearl will probably send people around to his campaign stops throwing flip-flops at him. But I have to admit, I'm thoroughly impressed. Personally I hope they still let us occasionally take a few drill cores for scientific purposes (Hawaii=interesting), but for Bush to literally go out and 100% change his mind on an environmental rule, to the point of admitting he was wrong to oppose Clinton Administration rules, and then going beyond anything the Clintons had tried to do...well, like I said, I'm impressed.
  14. Well, at least based on this report, there's a possibility that the greatest friend Cub Fans ever had will wind up being the former owners of the LA Times. The Chandler family, who's paper was bought a few years ago by the Tribune Company, own roughly 12% of that company. With a 40% drop in the stock price in the last few years, they're understandably unhappy, and they're going after Tribune Co. in response. If they're successful, they could eventually force the Tribune Company to break up into multiple companies or sell off its assets to other private groups. Those assets would include a certain losing Chicago Baseball team, most likely.
  15. Just out of curiosity, isnt' there a specific time window when even civilian authorities can hold a prisoner for either questionning or as a material witness/suspect while an investigation is under way?
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) Great AB Pods. And with that, I'll check on Josh Fields game and salivate at our future LF. Who convinced Scott he was back in 2004?
  17. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) f*** this - javy needs to do something now. damnit. Get up and get us a hit?
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 05:57 PM) Oh man, Vazquez has the same disease that Garland has (minus last night). If that's the Case, Menchie will be leaving the park here.
  19. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) Javiera Vasquez? Jittable Javy.
  20. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) *SIGHS* this is why i had a bad feeling about Javy today This is why I've had a bad feeling about Javy ever since the first half of 2004.
  21. It's the Tradional "Vazquez collapse inning"©
  22. And then somehow, Hairston finds a way to get on base to lead off.
  23. If anyone does anything with these runners it'll be Thome.
