Frank could have been offered arbitration by the team even after his contract was bought out for the $3.5 million at the end of last year. But usually in arbitration, a player's salary doesn't go up or down by that much, so if we'd offered arbitration, Frank's people could have just accepted the arbitration and forced the Sox to pay another $8 mil or so for him this year, or they could have held accepting arbitration over our heads as a negotiating tool. It would have put the Sox in a very bad position had we actually done that. On top of all of that, I think it's really nice to have a left handed bat in our lineup, just so Ozzie can't throw out his "9 righty" lineups any more.

The Mets finally dumped Kaz Matsui. Sent to the Rockies for Catcher/1b Eli Marerro. Mets are paying almost all of his remaining contract.
