  1. Hold em right there Mark, come on.
  2. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) Maybe if they had acted with restraint, for once, they could sway world opinion to their side and actually help their cause. But, as usual, the islamo-fascist movement chooses terrorism as a policy instrument. Why does that not apply to Israel?
  3. 22 pitch inning there for Captain Cheeseburger. The back of our order may not be able to hit, but at least they made him throw some pitches. 90 through 5.
  4. You know how some people seem to get better chances of hitting a pitcher as an at bat lengthens? I wish I could feel that way about BA.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) See more than 2 pitches, Uribe...please 4 Come on Brian...just 1 hit...
  6. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) im actually surprised that the sox would inquire about soriano. weve seen so much this year how important good defense is. also how the sox feel so strong about good club house chemistry. to me soriano seems like a selfish player With the way Podsednik is hitting right now...
  7. It'd be nice if he could make those catches and occasionally go 2/3 as well.
  8. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) say what ya want, but BUehrle is only at 60 through 4 himself, lets not forget that. But Mark Buehrle is not an ace! 68 pitches for Sabathia through 4. 60 for Buehrle.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) What option did you expect them to take? Let's literally end all aid to Palestine except for food aid - except all the aid workers are out of Palestine because there's no money to fund their aid efforts anymore. They could have recognized Israel's right to exist and had all that go away. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,198919,00.html Anyone who thought these Islamo-fascist savages were capable of reason and diplomacy was naive at best. Like I said earlier. These Islamo-fascists are an order of magnitude worse than the Nazi's were on their worst day. The only thing they understand is force and killing and I say lets give them all they want. Just out of curiosity, how do you react to the killing of the people on the beach reportedly by an Israeli attack? including children?
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) What is the problem between Vizquel and Mesa? They had, um, "Words" after Cleveland lost the world series and Mesa blew the save in game 7. Vizquel called him a "choker" in a book or something like that, Mesa pledged to hit him every time they faced, and also supposedly threatened to kill him.
  11. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) 2 straight innings with an out after 1 pitch. 2 outs here after 3 pitches. Yay. Cliff Lee has currently thrown 63% as many pitches as Javy.
  12. Uribe needs a hit here to stay above the Mendoza line.
  13. Good lord, how in the world do you throw 88 pitches in 4 innings and give up 1 run?
  14. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) I can't remember the last time 1 of our starters had a chance to go 8 innings. It's probably only been a couple games but it feels like 3 weeks. When Buehrle gets shelled and Contreras is walking people, yeah that's the end result So, will this be Javy's big inning?
  15. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) Frank hits his 15th of the year off Randy Johnson. This question is directed towards Thomas supporters. I already know what the haters will say. What would our team look like this year had we kept Rowand and signed Frank to an incentive laden contract? Perhaps we could have used some of the Thome money towards bullpen help? I know it's a stretch but what do you think? I'm not saying it's something I would have supported but we might not be much worse than we already are. I'd imagine our 3-4-5 hitters would have been Dye, PK, and then Frank. So, numbers-wise, Thome is being paid like $6 million this season by the Sox, because we're getting all that money from Philly. If we had signed Frank to an incentive laden deal, well first of all we'd be without Thome's production in the lineup, but if Frank put up numbers that would justify bringing him back in 07, he'd be making a lot more than he'd make in 06, and the injury risk would go up every year. We have Jim Thome for 2006, 2007, and 2008, for like $20 million altogether. If Frank could perform well enough to come back each of those years, it'd probably cost almost that much to hold onto him, and we'd wind up with less production and a higher injury risk. We may be able to get him for 09 also (he has an option that year if we want to pick it up or renegotiate beforehand a-la Chipper Jones) Yes, right now, we'd be about the same, but that's because the difference between Thomas and Thome has been offset by the incredibly bad work at the plate of Brian Anderson. Furthermore, it's also worth wondering whether or not we could have even signed Frank to a 1 year, incentive laden deal. Frank could have been offered arbitration by the team even after his contract was bought out for the $3.5 million at the end of last year. But usually in arbitration, a player's salary doesn't go up or down by that much, so if we'd offered arbitration, Frank's people could have just accepted the arbitration and forced the Sox to pay another $8 mil or so for him this year, or they could have held accepting arbitration over our heads as a negotiating tool. It would have put the Sox in a very bad position had we actually done that. On top of all of that, I think it's really nice to have a left handed bat in our lineup, just so Ozzie can't throw out his "9 righty" lineups any more.
  16. So, just out of curiosity, is there some reason we should know about why this thread is subtitled "The Eagle has landed"? Is that Sean's nickname or something?
  17. The Mets finally dumped Kaz Matsui. Sent to the Rockies for Catcher/1b Eli Marerro. Mets are paying almost all of his remaining contract.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) I just feel like nobody really takes Haeger seriously. I mean, people here probably don't really believe he'll actually succeed on a long-term basis in the majors. It's usually pretty hard to take a knuckleballer seriously when they don't fit into the usual tools people scout for. But then every so often a good one comes along, and winds up winning a lot of games, and no one has a clue how he does it. Which is why I think Haeger should be in the big leagues pretty soon...he's not going to learn much more in AAA than he's getting right now. I just hope someone out there is willing to take a gamble on him, since he's on the one team with the least amount of room.
  19. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) Unless you suspect Mackowiak is a nice defensive replacement. We're at home, so if we get to the 8th inning with a lead, Jenks comes in if it's close, and the ballgame ends, thus we don't come to plate in the 9th. We'd have to pile up like 6-7 runs or leave another 15 men on base for that to happen. Otherwise, if it hits the 8th inning and we're down a run or two, Mack will pinch hit in the hopes of getting a hit. So it'll basically take Cliff Lee being destroyed for Anderson to get >3 at bats. I certainly hope he gets like 6 AB's, but the way some of our guys have been hitting lately....
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Anyone think Broadway would be the pitcher to go in any deal? If Haeger's not enough, he's the next best bet. Haeger only stands out to me as trade bait because there's no obvious role for him in the next 2 years, and he should be pitching in the ML right now or within a few months at worst.
  21. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Safe Bet: Brian Anderson goes 0-4 tonight. He's going to get 4 at bats?
  22. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Any word on Crede?? Should be interesting with both Pods and Ozuna at the top of the order. I don't believe I've seen that before. Supposedly Joe should be playing tomorrow, IIRC. Linky.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) 2. This has to be one of the most moronic decisions I have seen a professional sports franchise make in a long time. Are you sayin' Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball?
  24. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) This would be great if Pujols was on roids, it would just turn all of these reporters into complete hypocrites because I guarentee they would not give Pujols half the s*** they've given Bonds. You're right, they wouldn't, because it'd be a long time before Pujols was able to challenge any major records.
  25. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Not really. That quote is well known now. The stories agree completely on the new (to the public) evidence, it seems to me. Yeah, but if she's out there saying now that she thinks they're guilty, then her old statement as evidence basically becomes pretty useless.
