  1. The Reds acquired Esteban Yan and cash from the Angels for a Minor League pitcher. Matt Lawton has been released by the Mariners. Eric Gagne was officially activated. He'll now begin a 2 game suspension MLB handed down last year. Chris Carpenter officially hit the DL. He did throw some pitches in the bullpen. David Wells will hit the 15 day DL, again. Sheffield and Damon will both miss tonight's game, and possibly more. Damon has a sore foot, Sheffield has a sore wrist. Tampa Bay will remain the Devil Rays in 2007.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:39 AM) Well look at Polite's numbers, im sure he will end the season around his career avg. BMAC is serviceable as a righty, and Jenks is lights out. Thornton is better than Marte was, Cotts will regress a bit, which is expected, and Nelson is old, but still needs some work to reach what he could do. Im not really that worried about the pen. For Politte to end the season around his career numbers, he'd have to give up 10 runs the rest of the year and pitch over 30 innings. That works out to an ERA of about 3 for the rest of the year.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) What are these problems you speak of? Does everyone understand that we are going to lose over 60 games this year most likely? Problem is...at the current rate, 40-50 of those losses are going to be due to bad fundamental baseball.
  4. I'll wager right now that if someone could create an alternate universe where Cliff Politte of 06 was pitching like Cliff Politte of 05, none of these Anderson threads would exist. Our problem right now still remains starting pitchers wetting the bed, and a bullpen with inconsistent right handed setup guys.
  5. If Ozzie were to pull the head of the 05 Garland out of Garland's ass and replace his current head with that one...and keep the 05 Garland head on that body for the next 10-15 years, Garland could push 300, not just 200, if he stays healthy. But right now that just doesn't look likely enough.
  6. The question is...do they hurt more than a needle in your skin hurts?
  7. It's official Clemens is an Astro. He agreed to a contract worth $21 million for a full season, which will pay him $14 million over the rest of the year.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 30, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) No Crede??? Joe's problem right now is other 3b. If you assume that ARod gets voted in, Hank Blalock may not play as good of defense as Crede, but his offensive numbers are a little better. Blalock has a higher B.A., the same number of home runs, and a higher OBP. Chavez has more home runs, plays a fine defense, has a higher slug, and higher OBP. It'll be hard for Joe to hop in front of all those guys unless he hits another big surge in the next few weeks.
  9. QUOTE(G&T @ May 31, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) That sums up almost every loss this season. Outside of Santana and maybe a few other games this team simply beats itself too often. A new month hopefully will help out. Bring on June. If this team were to stop beating itself, it might never lose.
  10. QUOTE(PeoriaSoxFan @ May 30, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Remember, Boone Logan giving up a the HR to Hafner? That was one we should have had. Boone has a 6.75 ERA in 2.2 innings at Charlotte, thus far. Thus far he's had 1 terrible outing and 2 good outings. ERA doesn't mean all that much after 2.2 innings.
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 30, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) There has to be a change soon. One of Uribe, BA, and Politte has to go or lose their starting role very soon. These three guys haven't even shown signs of improvement. They have been the definition of garbage. Does Politte actually have a starting role?
  12. Thornton and Politte are up for us.
  13. If we can't win a 1 run game against the Cleveland Bullpen, Ozzie might as well just quit. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 30, 2006 -> 06:08 PM) Why don't we use the DH on the CF, and actually hit the pitcher? Haha, that would he awesome. Unfortunately, the rule book only lets you DH for the pitcher.
  14. Daniel Cabrera up for the Tribe, maybe Politte up for us.
  15. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 30, 2006 -> 05:27 PM) is Hawk crazy? "Our bullpen is not near where it was at this point last year..." No, Hawk, we don't have Vizcaino giving up games once a week, we don't have Marte's unpredictable outings.... I think people forget that our bullpen was a bit of a mess in May last year... We had Hermanson and Politte who were absolutely on fire though, which is something we still don't have yet here.
  16. This inning ends with this guy or it ends with a 3-4 run Cleveland lead.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 30, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) What is Widger's reputation for calling a game? Since Buerhle doesn't ever shake of a catcher, I wonder what his numbers are with AJ catching him vs. Widger, although I do agree AJ probably should be forced to hit off CC. Widger's CERA last year was damn good because he caught Buehrle quite a bit.
  18. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 30, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) why isn't pablo stealing third with one out? My only guess is that he wasn't feeling up to it after the slide at 2nd and the visit by the trainers.
  19. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 30, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Is Victor a good catcher or bad catcher in terms of CS? Absolutely horrible. 5/36 on the season.
  20. Ok, the Sox and Yankees need to keep matching each other run for run for the rest of the day. Pablo being checked by the Trainers.
  21. QUOTE(daa84 @ May 30, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) sabathia just pissed himself at the thought of uribe anderson and ozuna coming up this inning Yeah, Ozuna finally dropped below .400 after the first inning.
