  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 28, 2006 -> 05:47 AM) Well x player plays great defense so they must play everyday no matter how bad their batting average is. We currently have 2 players well below the mendoza line. One is a rook, the other is a vet. I would like someone to explain how many contending teams over the years had one regular player below the mendoza line more or less two below. I can think of 1 team that had 2 guys under the Mendoza line in late May & was pretty good. The 2005 Chicago White Sox. Konerko & Dye hovered around .190 until late May last year...not sure the exact date that they got going, but they were down for a LONG time. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 28, 2006 -> 06:22 AM) Precisely why, gasp, we should have kept Borchard over him (Gload). At least he can actually play the outfield and can swing, albeit not very well, from the right side. He looked decent yesterday hitting a 3 run bomb off of Glavine righthanded. You're assuming the Mariners would have taken Gload. I've been fairly happy to see Thornton over this last month.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 27, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) MORE SPOILERS: Supposedly, Cyclops got killed off real early because the actor is making another movie and he wasn't able to film that much for this one. Man, you just gotta love how much the movie business is willing to sacrifice to make a good plot.
  3. Cleveland's offense does not get held to 1 run very often.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 27, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) Just to let everyone know, I posted in the game threads of the first two Cubs games early, didn't post in the 3rd one. I also posted early in all 3 game threads for the A's series and I did not post early in either of the Blue Jays threads. Coincidence? You Bastard.
  5. QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ May 27, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) If you, or any other out-of-towners such as myself, have an extra $150 stuck in your couch cushions, I would highly recommend the MLB Extra Innings package. You get a good chunk of Sox games, plus a truckload of other MLB games. You won't get every game, but it's well worth the investment, IMHO. Unfortunately, when the White Sox game starts before 6:00 CST on a Saturday, unless it's on WGN, the game is blacked out entirely even on Extra Innings, because of stupid motherf***ing Fox and it's exclusivity contract. Also, if the game is on WCIU and a home game, the odds are good that it won't be on either. (You can tell I'm annoyed about not getting the game today).
  6. I saw it during the game today (Man, I'm glad I went, not only was it a s***ty game, but it wasn't on TV at all here. Stupid f***ing FOX.) Anywho...it was a decent flick, but as one of my earlier posters said...yeah they were waaaay to casual and careless about which people they disposed of.

    What???

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) What "unattainable" goal is that? A democratic government in Iraq? OOPS!!! I guess it wasn't so unattainable after all. Thankfully, they've democratically decided to kill people for wearing shorts.
  8. QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) None of those guys excite me. Pierre is having a horrible season, Finley is 60 years old, and Erstad I have no clue about. Erstadt is hurt, gets paid like $9 million a year, has never hit worth a damn, and is several years away from being a good defensive CF.
  9. QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Nelson got away with one Why, oh why, were we in the 11th inning of a game and still had not used our 2 best relief pitchers? Centerfielders to keep an eye on: Steve Finley, Darin Erstad, Juan Pierre Seriously, you are out of your mind, have you actually looked at the numbers for those people? We're better off with Mack for crying out loud.
  10. BALLS TO THE WALL TIME JON. Suck it up and get rid of these guys.
  11. QUOTE(greg775 @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) Horrible game. You are gonna win 60 a year and lose 60 a year; it's what you do in the others that matter. This was one of the 60 losses. It wasn't our day. Poor Jose. In 11 innings...it's close enough that it should have been 1 of the other 40.
  12. Enjoy first place Detroit. We're not earning anything right now.
  13. Zaun is hitting .556 right handed this season.
  14. Ozzie isn't stupid enough to leave Nelson in against Overbay is he? This is absolutely insane. Even if it works. Even if it's Hinske instead of Overbay.
  15. QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) They just should have let Pods continue running and hope for a miracle at the plate. With the top RBI guy in the AL on deck? Are you mad? May not have worked, but you don't make the 3rd out at the plate with Thome on deck. You just don't. No matter how bad of a day he's had.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) What's Jose's ERA now? 1.83. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) do you send pods? 2 outs? Yes. Get a RISP
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) And we're closing in on having Cliff Politte pitch They've used 5 bullpen guys now, we've used 3. They're carrying an extra pitcher yes, but they're getting to the back end...and I'm not sure how having Halladay delay a start affects their plans.
  18. On the bright side, Toronto is down to 2 pitchers left who aren't starters, if I'm counting right.
  19. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) it sounds crazy but the indians pitching is absolutely terrible. they just arent going to get much better. It's also not impossible for an offense to get so hot that it can overcome bad pitching. Texas has had hot streaks like that for a few years, hell the Yankees keep making the playoffs by doing it.
  20. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) Jesus Christ. Justin Verlander has better stuff than Johan Santana. 98 on the first pitch, 81 on the next pitch. Its ridiculous. Paul Byrd and the tribe have NO chance today. Yeah, it's 100% impossible to score runs off of Verlander. He's going undefeated for his career. Wait, what's that, you say the White Sox beat him? How could that happen, he's got Jesus's pitch arsenal.
  21. QUOTE(greg775 @ May 27, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) Detroit is so good right now it's scary. Oakland had a stretch last year where they were unbeatable for a month. The Orioles had a stretch last year where they were unbeatable for a month. Cleveland played .750 or better for a couple months. None of those teams were as good as they played. Detroit looks very good right now. But they're not as good as they look right now, because no team is EVER as good as it looks when it is playing its best.
  22. AG Gonzalez threatened to resign if Mr. Bush capitulated and gave back the seized documents.
  23. Nice of Juan to take at least 1 pitch first. Come on Brian, it's time to get your bat out of your ass. Nope.
