  1. QUOTE(kevo880 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) if bmac were in the rotation all season i doubt his era would be in the 5's. one or two bad outings in the bullpen and your era sky rockets and it's tough to get back down. garland logs so many innings if he had four or five strait quality starts that his era could drop back down to decent. You're right, if BMac were in the rotation, his ERA would probably be in the 4's. But there's a lot of problems with that. First of all, if Kerry Wood and Mark Prior were in the Cubs rotation, their ERA might be in the 3's. But they're not there. Why? Overuse at too young of an age, combined with s***ty mechanics. And we might have an even worse bullpen than we have now. Brandon's gonna wind up with somewhere over 100 innings this year. He's also damn young, and he has a chance to be damn good for damn long time. Let Brandon get adapted to major league pitching in the pen, keep his innings down, and just wait for the 20 win seasons to start rolling in. There's no reason to rush the kid yet.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) He's still going to get more money and time than he is worth. I have a feeling the next team that signs him will get him to change somethings and all of the sudden he becomes a productive starting pitcher... that is as long as he leaves Chicago. If he went somewhere like Texas with a guy like Orel Hershizer to work with him, we could see Kerry realize his potential... finally. With the wrong pitching coach, $450k a year is more than he's worth. Personally, even if he goes to the right situation, I think he's probably still too damn stubborn to listen. He's got that Texan in him (no offense folks) where he just thinks he's bigger than everyone else and he doesn't have to listen. He seems like he just runs around thinking "I struck out 20 in a game, I don't need no stinkin' coachin'".
  3. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) I was sent a video clip of the punch, from a Cubs fan here at work...and after AJ gets punched, it says 'OWNED'...and they subject line of his e-mail was 'I can Watch This All Day'. So apparently the Cubs are enjoying this. When Barret comes down with his 10-20 game suspension, make sure you send an email back with the same subject.
  4. Just to speak in terms of yesterday...4 runs in 6.1 innings is not a terrible outing. It's not a great outing, but it's also not terrible. He also had a better than average, 7 inning, 2 run outing last time out against Tampa. We would not be having this discussion right now had he had some balls against Minnesota. Jon has almost used up his quota of terrible games this season. He's had 2 tolerable games in a row. He gets shelled 1 or 2 more times, then it's time to start thinking about giving Brandon some more starts. He keeps his next few outings at 4 runs and below over 6-7 innings, and he'll be doing his job.
  5. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ May 22, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) That is just flat out confusing.... I think the reason Isiah Thomas is making all these deals is to just try to get the people he's trading with so dizzy that they'll make mistakes. The only problem...Isiah gets dizzy very very easily.
  6. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) I'll tell you guys this much, while I am very optimistic on here I am comparable to fathom (no offense) at the game. I swear for some reason I had no faith in us winning. When Jenks got in the jam I thought for sure it was game over and then Street came in and I thought the same thing. Boy was I wrong and am I glad. I'm usually one of Fathom's counterparts in game threads, and even I gave up on this one.
  7. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Man is the game changing. Mavs and Suns to battle it out to see who goes to the finals? The days of needing dominant bigs and playing elite defense to win titles look just about over. 3 of the 4 teams in the conference finals have very very good centers who are big. The Suns are the only exception. And in terms of offense and defense, 3 of the top 5 teams in offensive efficiency and 3 of the top 5 teams in defensive efficiency (points normalized by length of possession) are in the conference finals.
  8. You're never as good as you look when you're playing your best, and you're never as bad as you look when you're playing your worst. The Dodgers are getting ridiculous pitching right now and good hitting, and they're catching teams that are falling flat (the Angels for example).
  9. QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 22, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) im glad Barrett ignited that huge run to the playoffs. After this series, I laugh at these dickweeks. God I hope they resign Dusty. WHY IS THERE NO SEPARATE CUBS THREAD They have to earn it before we should bother caring about them enough to give them their own thread.
  10. It's very nice to see Sportscenter getting the chance to run Frank Tipping his cap to thunderous applause before that first AB, even if they threw the KW stuff in.
  11. Please Ozzie for God's sake don't let him pitch to any switch hitters or lefties.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 22, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) Yeah I was pretty much convinced he was going to hit one to the moon when he came up in that spot. Thank goodness Bobby was able to make the big pitch. He almost did. Luckily it went straight up.
  13. If he keeps this up...yeah. You gotta love picking up a guy who can throw 96-97 from the left hand side, and having a pitching coach who can fix him. Confidence to throw strikes + a lefty + 97 mph = a lot of outs + 3 CO2.
  14. QUOTE(Linnwood @ May 22, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) Doug Eddings? :headshake All those Angels fans who blamed Eddings for giving the Sox that game...Eddings tried pretty damn hard to take one away.
  15. So...wow...I don't know where to begin, I gave up & went to watch the Mavs...I thought at about 7:45 that both the Mavs and the Sox were done...and all of a sudden...by 8:15, both games turned. Yowza. Throw in the season finale of 24, and that's an entertaining evening. JD PK Rob Mack whack tally whack Uribe Thornton Jenks Garland (yes, he gave up 4, but he turned it up at the end, and 4 runs through 6.1 is not great, but also not murder) Frank (what the Hell) AJ Ozzie Rock And of course...PABLO!! Ok, you've proven it. You guys have BALLS.
  16. Ok, I'm calling this game over and going to go watch some NBA. Good teamwork by the Sox tonight. They've all been so bad, there's really no single person you can point to.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 22, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Has Uribe drawn a walk in the last fortnight? He has 1 in May. It was some time in the last week.
  18. Dallas up by only 4, Anderson up, I think it's time for me to head home.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ May 22, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) He's always a threat to pop up to the right side. That used to be the Graffanino special. Not against Zito.
  20. Uribe up. Here's the bet...will he do anything other than strikeout?
  21. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ May 22, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) trade garland for griffrey! Cue it in 3...2...1...
  22. That's 101 pitches for Jon through 6. Maybe Raines will leave him in for the 7th just to save the pen and make his arm fall off so that he can hit the DL.
