  1. QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 10, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Yasny is right if this was a Republican all the major networks would be all over this... there would be a 5 part installment of 'dateline NBC' in the works. Yeah, because last time a Republican Congressman was caught DUI, the media couldn't stop talking about it for weeks.
  2. My God, Texas has some of the most frightening "Gameday" photos I've ever seen. Cleveland ties K.C. up on a Balk.
  3. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) Twins -Rangers tied at 1 in the bottom of 5 Twinkies up 3-1 in the 7th. Buck Showalter was thrown out for arguing balls & strikes.
  4. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) As much as I dislike Bonds, leaking classified information is illegal. Journalists aren't above the law. The Journalist didn't do the leaking.
  5. Back to knotted at 5-5. And that hard hitting Paul Bako makes it 6-5 K.C. 8-5 on a 2 run Kerry Robinson triple off of Mota.
  6. Right now, I just don't see a good spot for him on the ML roster. There's no one who's got the combination of minor league options left and poor enough numbers to justify holding him up barring another major injury. BMac, Logan, Jenks, and Cotts are probably the only ones in our bullpen who even have options left. Logan has the 2nd best ERA on our team right now (Thanks in part to other people), Cotts has come around, Jenks is 10/11 in saves, etc. Brandon's the only one who right now has had a bad time of late, and even he ain't going anywhere for Charlie. Charlie pitches 2 dynamite games and he may very well find himself starting for someone else's big league team within a month or two.
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Well, to be fair Cotts was really thrown to the wolves that day. At least Heager has the benefit of pitching at home, whereas Cotts had to throw against the best offense in the league, in the bronx. During a pennant chase...late in the season...after the Sox had won 2 in a row from the Yanks...
  8. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Nor Greg Maddox His ERA jumped to 3.64 after that shellacking by the Padres. Only 1 guy on that list for the NL has a higher ERA, and he's 5-1.
  9. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) What about 2008 and beyond?? Presumably, the 50 game suspension dies if there's no new agreement, and it would have to be in the next CBA for it to come back.
  10. At least Haeger doesn't have to win with backups.
  11. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 10, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) No Johann Santana? Huh? 3-3 Record, 3.69 ERA thus far. Don't worry, some people always show up. Mark will be up there, Johan will be up there, just give them time.
  12. George Steinbrenner, with his legendary subtlety. Philly pitching prospect Cole Hamels will make his ML Debut Friday against Cincy. Sidney Ponson hit the DL yesterday. Mark Prior Kerry Wood Ben Sheets is hitting the DL again.
  13. An ERA of 5.36 as a team while playing in a supposed pitcher's park in Cleveland? Yikez.
  14. Yeesh, every single way we turn, MLB is casually slipping loopholes into its steroid agreement. That would be one MIGHTY setback.
  15. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ May 10, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) That would be the most single game strikeouts for a rookie. It'd also be the most single game strikeouts from a person from Livonia, MI, or a Person who's middle name is Wallis. What's your point?
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 10, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) If the press can't "report everything" then, by definition, aren't they controlled by the government? I think the way it's been done is that the Press is treated as being a pertinent witness to a criminal investigation...i.e. it's illegal for people in the government to leak that information, and the people who write the story therefore have information relevant to that investigation. So they're not exactly being controlled by the government (except Fox News [/rimshot]), but the courts do have the right to bring them in. Unless we write a law saying they can't. If you want a better explanation you're going to have to Go directly to the legal reasoning.
  17. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 10, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) Pardon my ignorance, but I was always under the impression that the Federal Law was known as the Constitution. Balta ... my sarcasm is not directed at you or your response. It's inspired by my disgust that this is even an issue. The constitution protects Freedom of the Press in the sense that it allows the press to be uncontrolled by the government. But it doesn't allow the press universal freedom to report everything, just like freedom of speech doesn't allow you to shout fire in a movie theater.
  18. QUOTE(longshot7 @ May 10, 2006 -> 10:48 AM) who are # 1 & 2??? Right now, Cleveland and NYY.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 10, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) I think I'm going to have my mom record this game just because I really want to see Chuck pitch. Hopefully that thing will be dancing all over the place. What's the over/under on passed balls for AJ tonight? Passed balls or passed balls and wild pitches combined?
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 10, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) This trend of jailing reporters for not revealing their sources has got to stop. That's actually something of a problem nationwide at this point. There's no "Federal Shield Law" to protect things like that, and only a few people have made creating one an issue. Thus far, nothing's come close to stirriing up public sentiment in support of one, and when Judith Miller is one of the best arguments in favor of one, well, you just don't get very far. I just can't see one happening at any time in the near future.
  21. There's something really disgusting about the fact that it seems thanks to our government's new crackdown on the evil of leaks, the people who wrote the most detailed exposition on Barry Bonds's illegal steriod use may very well face more jail time than Barry Bonds himself. But I guess...we do live in disgusting times.
  22. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 10, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) The emoticon display problem has been fixed.
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 10, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) The problem with that is he was considerably worse once his back got messed up last year. I have no doubt Dustin can tough it out if need be but would that really be beneficial to the team? His back was actually hurting for most of the year and he was playing through it...it just took away his ability to pitch when it got even worse.
