  1. MSNBC's David Shuster is convinced Rove will be indicted.
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) Balta is a slacker!!! You have to understand, Balta, Mr. Genius comes from a world where grad students regularly earn a 6-figure stipend. I'll put in an NSF proposal for a mission to this world tomorrow.
  3. QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) are you white and male? if so it's your own fault because you have been given every advantage ever (atleast thats what the rationale will be). 85% tax rate, deal with it. You do realize I wasn't being serious with that tax proposal correct? The math would work correctly, but yeah, it wouldn't be all that smart. And yes, I'm a white male who makes under the median income. Why? I'm a grad student. I'm just trying to get y'all to give me $50k. Tricky, ain't I. And yes, this is a prime example of why Communism doesn't work in practice.
  4. QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) sweet, lets set up a communists ecenomic system.. those always work. i assume you will be the first to sacrifice 85% of your pay to the federal government in the name of progress. Actually, I'm well under the median income, so I would be on the other side.
  5. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) And that's what's still got me wondering......it'd really seem like everyone could just be bumped up with today's off day. But, I'm not a professional baseball type person. The last 2 years they've really tried not to do that to any of our pitchers (i.e. an off day is an off day for everyone). Ever since we blew our staff out in early 04 using Mr. Off day as our 5th starter for 2 months. Especially with the # of innings these guys threw last year, pushing them up to cut out 1 start sort of ignores the big picture at the expense of focusing on one game
  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Well, for starters, I wouldn't have him pitch to Vladdy. I can just envision a hanging knuckler to him. Well, I'd like to disagree with you, but i just checked Vlad's stats against Wakefield. 6/13, 4 home runs, 5 walks, OPS of 2.073. Eek. Garret Anderson's also hit Wakefield pretty well, but the rest of the Angels haven't been that great against the Knuckler.
  7. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) I heard that too. They said it's back not hip, and it still wasn't 100% he is going on the DL. Hell we might all just wake up tomorrow and Jose is fine and Haeger is still in Charlotte. If he's having any pain at all, have him take the start off. He's our best pitcher right now, and he's probably 36 or 37 years old. There's no good reason to break him down now, even if he says he's fine.
  8. I've been holding off on buying an Ipod for the longest time, and I'm still doing so. I just can't justify the expense of several hundred dollars on what is basically a hard drive. At some point, someone is going to come out with a comparable product that costs far less. It just has to happen. Until then, I spent $30 on a CD Player that can play CD's loaded with MP3's. Fit like 130-140 songs on a disk, burn the CD, and just play that. It's an order of magnitude less expensive.
  9. QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) you know that should be in green The top 10% of American wage earners currently earn 41% of all the wages paid out in this country. Rob the top 20% or so, to the point that we move income back to a gaussian distribution, and I bet you could pull it off.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) Now just tell us that you can see into the future and Haeger picks up a W on Wednesdsay You know, it would really be nice to see a starter not named Mark Buehrle come up and succeed right away. I can't think of any who have since Mark, including BMac who struggled in his first stint with the big club last year. We've had success bringing up relievers (Bobby, the legend of Boone Logan), but no starters who come up and blow everyone away.
  11. QUOTE(LoFiStew @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) Plus, I think it would be a shame if the knuckleballer dies out completely. I think Wakefield is the only surviving member of the species left in the majors right now. It's always fun to watch a knuckleball pitcher work his 70-mph magic. Well, not any more.
  12. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) A realistic immigration policy, with guest workers, AND some kind of wall (physical or electronic, or a combination) would be the best solution. Stop the flow now, and work on assimilating the ones here. See, now this is a sensible set of solutions. Good compromise, coudl be made to work all around. The problem is, there is a powerful group in this country that is so insistent on punishing the ones here and making sure that is item #1 in any solution to the immigration issue that it has sabotaged any hope of an actual fair compromise that would actually put us in a good situation for the future.
  13. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Ok, I just can't resist...why? Are we going for moral victories here? Or, maybe where wins and losses don't count like little league? Because he's been shredding teams in the minors this season, and because it'd be damn nice to develop another starting pitcher who makes $400k a year and is with the Sox for a decade. At least that's my thinking.
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) That sounds about right. Let's just pray it's only a couple starts he misses. If he had to miss more than a couple, I'm pretty damn happy with Brandon getting to throw a full few games.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) What are the chances that if Contreras was out for a prolonged period, that McCarthy goes into the rotation and Haeger goes to the bullpen? With his knuckler, he'd be able to go multiple innings, and be able to pitch more often than just about anyone on the staff. If Contreras was going to be out for more than 2 starts, I think they'd immediately be getting BMac ready to go back into a starting role, simply because he showed he could swing it last year. But since they think it'll be a short stint, they're gonna run with Charlie, so that BMac doesn't throw off his routine. At least, that's the only thing that makes sense to me.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 8, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) I got this series going 6 games. That's it. The Mavs don't fool me. They are not capable of beating the Spurs 4 times in a playoff series. You're probably right, but I'd like to see a stronger outing from the Spurs in game 2 and a genuine challenge in game 3 before I call this series. You only get lucky at the end of close games so many times, no matter how much skill you have.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Indy isnt bad. The downtown area is actually somewhat nice, alot of good chain restaurants and bars like the Red headed Piano bar. Also there is an awesome cigar bar in downtown indy called Nick-somethings. Probably my fav bar of all time. The drinks I got in Indy were even more watered down than the ones i'm getting out here..
  18. Note to self...stab David Blaine (note to NSA guys: at this page, Green is code for sarcasm. Jimmy, shouldn't you be getting home already?)
  19. They really should have set this protest for May 1.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) My Charlotte source couldn't confirm. I assume this means "Couldn't confirm or deny"?
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) Ok, this thread ballooned since I've been gone. Anyone want to update me on what's going on? Beer. Lots and lots of beer. Beer beer beer.
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) If there is truth to this rumor, it would seem the Sox are throwing Haeger to the wolves. Wouldnt Redding be a better spot starter, seeing as he actually has MLB experience? Tim Redding of the 4.91 ERA and 1.46 WHIP at AAA?
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) So until you can provide concreate evidence that Contreras has a SERIOUS health issue, (or at least that someone in his immediate family is ailing, prompting a Bereavement list trip) you're just blowin smoke. Even beyond that, it's worth noting that aside from his wife and kids, most of his immediate family is probably still in Cuba, and he won't be going back there for any visits.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) One thing, why would they call him up to start over McCarthy? And why would he even be starting to begin with? The one reason I could give for that is that McCarthy is not only adapting to the bullpen, he's been used out of it in a couple games in a row, so he would be going on the equivalent of short rest.
