  1. QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) you know that should be in green The top 10% of American wage earners currently earn 41% of all the wages paid out in this country. Rob the top 20% or so, to the point that we move income back to a gaussian distribution, and I bet you could pull it off.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:22 PM) Now just tell us that you can see into the future and Haeger picks up a W on Wednesdsay You know, it would really be nice to see a starter not named Mark Buehrle come up and succeed right away. I can't think of any who have since Mark, including BMac who struggled in his first stint with the big club last year. We've had success bringing up relievers (Bobby, the legend of Boone Logan), but no starters who come up and blow everyone away.
  3. QUOTE(LoFiStew @ May 8, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) Plus, I think it would be a shame if the knuckleballer dies out completely. I think Wakefield is the only surviving member of the species left in the majors right now. It's always fun to watch a knuckleball pitcher work his 70-mph magic. Well, not any more.
  4. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) A realistic immigration policy, with guest workers, AND some kind of wall (physical or electronic, or a combination) would be the best solution. Stop the flow now, and work on assimilating the ones here. See, now this is a sensible set of solutions. Good compromise, coudl be made to work all around. The problem is, there is a powerful group in this country that is so insistent on punishing the ones here and making sure that is item #1 in any solution to the immigration issue that it has sabotaged any hope of an actual fair compromise that would actually put us in a good situation for the future.
  5. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Ok, I just can't resist...why? Are we going for moral victories here? Or, maybe where wins and losses don't count like little league? Because he's been shredding teams in the minors this season, and because it'd be damn nice to develop another starting pitcher who makes $400k a year and is with the Sox for a decade. At least that's my thinking.
  6. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) That sounds about right. Let's just pray it's only a couple starts he misses. If he had to miss more than a couple, I'm pretty damn happy with Brandon getting to throw a full few games.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 8, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) What are the chances that if Contreras was out for a prolonged period, that McCarthy goes into the rotation and Haeger goes to the bullpen? With his knuckler, he'd be able to go multiple innings, and be able to pitch more often than just about anyone on the staff. If Contreras was going to be out for more than 2 starts, I think they'd immediately be getting BMac ready to go back into a starting role, simply because he showed he could swing it last year. But since they think it'll be a short stint, they're gonna run with Charlie, so that BMac doesn't throw off his routine. At least, that's the only thing that makes sense to me.
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 8, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) I got this series going 6 games. That's it. The Mavs don't fool me. They are not capable of beating the Spurs 4 times in a playoff series. You're probably right, but I'd like to see a stronger outing from the Spurs in game 2 and a genuine challenge in game 3 before I call this series. You only get lucky at the end of close games so many times, no matter how much skill you have.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 8, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) Indy isnt bad. The downtown area is actually somewhat nice, alot of good chain restaurants and bars like the Red headed Piano bar. Also there is an awesome cigar bar in downtown indy called Nick-somethings. Probably my fav bar of all time. The drinks I got in Indy were even more watered down than the ones i'm getting out here..
  10. Note to self...stab David Blaine (note to NSA guys: at this page, Green is code for sarcasm. Jimmy, shouldn't you be getting home already?)
  11. They really should have set this protest for May 1.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) My Charlotte source couldn't confirm. I assume this means "Couldn't confirm or deny"?
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) Ok, this thread ballooned since I've been gone. Anyone want to update me on what's going on? Beer. Lots and lots of beer. Beer beer beer.
  14. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) If there is truth to this rumor, it would seem the Sox are throwing Haeger to the wolves. Wouldnt Redding be a better spot starter, seeing as he actually has MLB experience? Tim Redding of the 4.91 ERA and 1.46 WHIP at AAA?
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 8, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) So until you can provide concreate evidence that Contreras has a SERIOUS health issue, (or at least that someone in his immediate family is ailing, prompting a Bereavement list trip) you're just blowin smoke. Even beyond that, it's worth noting that aside from his wife and kids, most of his immediate family is probably still in Cuba, and he won't be going back there for any visits.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 8, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) One thing, why would they call him up to start over McCarthy? And why would he even be starting to begin with? The one reason I could give for that is that McCarthy is not only adapting to the bullpen, he's been used out of it in a couple games in a row, so he would be going on the equivalent of short rest.
  17. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 8, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It's truely a shame. If he was healthy, who knows where he'd be. Then again, less stuff would be made of steriods and Bonds being a prick, since 2 guys would be going after 755. Actually you'd probably have even more being made of it...think about how "The chase" in 98 helped build up Sosa and McGwire. And in this case, you'd have the 2 sides, one guy who's clean and one guy who's very, very, very dirty.
  18. QUOTE(samclemens @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) I dont need economic data to back that up; its common sense.
  19. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) USA TODAY/GALLUP: Bush Approval 31% (-3) http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/20...-approval_x.htm There's another big number in that poll too... It's not just that people are uncertain if the job he's doing is a good one, they're becoming certain that it's a bad one.
  20. QUOTE(samclemens @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) is this another argument that implies that illegal immigration is ok? Only if you consider the "They're hurting our economy" point to be a valid argument against illegal immigration.
  21. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) If I remember the song correctly, the knee bone's connected to the leg bone, the leg bone's connected to the foot bone. Therefore I think he does have a valid point. I would order immediate exploratory surgery of the hip just to be on the safe side. Stat. "The red thing's connected to my wrist watch..."
  22. And why exactly is that the best moment of his presidency? Hehehehe. Edit: ok, maybe this makes a little more sense...it seems it was a large mouth bass. Best moment of his presidency was him catching a 7.5 pound bass? I think I agree.
  23. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 7, 2006 -> 06:49 AM) The Royals arent completely poor, but they are spending money on Doug Meintkieviczykjac and Mark Grudzelanek and Reggie Sanders A couple of those moves make sense on some level...if you sign people to short contracts for average money, if you're willing to move those guys for prospects when teams suffer injuries or need to fill a hole come trading deadline time, you're in ok shape. Sanders for 1 better not remain with that team the whole year, if they have any brains at all.
  24. Ok...I can't resist... GW Bush trades Sosa to the White Sox. The White Sox want to win, and therefore trade Sosa for George Bell. Sosa develops into a cult hero on the North Side, and their fans spend 10 years adapting to losing 10-2 with 1 of those 2 home runs coming on a late Sosa home run. The Cub fans get in the habit of buying up ballpark tickets like crazy no matter how well the team performs, and always go home drunk and happy thanks to Sosa. The management realizes they don't have to spend as much on players as they should, or build a quality team, as long as that stadium doesn't fall apart too much. Even after Sosa leaves, this pattern continues. Therefore...the Cubs' current state of perpetual suckiness can be linked to George W. Bush. Happy everyone?
