  1. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 8, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It's truely a shame. If he was healthy, who knows where he'd be. Then again, less stuff would be made of steriods and Bonds being a prick, since 2 guys would be going after 755. Actually you'd probably have even more being made of it...think about how "The chase" in 98 helped build up Sosa and McGwire. And in this case, you'd have the 2 sides, one guy who's clean and one guy who's very, very, very dirty.
  2. QUOTE(samclemens @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) I dont need economic data to back that up; its common sense.
  3. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) USA TODAY/GALLUP: Bush Approval 31% (-3) http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/20...-approval_x.htm There's another big number in that poll too... It's not just that people are uncertain if the job he's doing is a good one, they're becoming certain that it's a bad one.
  4. QUOTE(samclemens @ May 8, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) is this another argument that implies that illegal immigration is ok? Only if you consider the "They're hurting our economy" point to be a valid argument against illegal immigration.
  5. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 8, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) If I remember the song correctly, the knee bone's connected to the leg bone, the leg bone's connected to the foot bone. Therefore I think he does have a valid point. I would order immediate exploratory surgery of the hip just to be on the safe side. Stat. "The red thing's connected to my wrist watch..."
  6. And why exactly is that the best moment of his presidency? Hehehehe. Edit: ok, maybe this makes a little more sense...it seems it was a large mouth bass. Best moment of his presidency was him catching a 7.5 pound bass? I think I agree.
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 7, 2006 -> 06:49 AM) The Royals arent completely poor, but they are spending money on Doug Meintkieviczykjac and Mark Grudzelanek and Reggie Sanders A couple of those moves make sense on some level...if you sign people to short contracts for average money, if you're willing to move those guys for prospects when teams suffer injuries or need to fill a hole come trading deadline time, you're in ok shape. Sanders for 1 better not remain with that team the whole year, if they have any brains at all.
  8. Ok...I can't resist... GW Bush trades Sosa to the White Sox. The White Sox want to win, and therefore trade Sosa for George Bell. Sosa develops into a cult hero on the North Side, and their fans spend 10 years adapting to losing 10-2 with 1 of those 2 home runs coming on a late Sosa home run. The Cub fans get in the habit of buying up ballpark tickets like crazy no matter how well the team performs, and always go home drunk and happy thanks to Sosa. The management realizes they don't have to spend as much on players as they should, or build a quality team, as long as that stadium doesn't fall apart too much. Even after Sosa leaves, this pattern continues. Therefore...the Cubs' current state of perpetual suckiness can be linked to George W. Bush. Happy everyone?
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 7, 2006 -> 07:11 PM) Can we just fast-foward to June? Nothing outside of a crippling injury is gonna prevent the Pistons and Spurs from advancing to the finals. Can we at least wait until the series gets back to Dallas? That was a pretty close game last night in SA.
  10. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 2, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) Can you read? Did I say anywhere in my post that they were? I said if half if the 25% that missed school were illegal, the cost would be over $1.5 billion. 535,500 of the students are hispanic. 25% of those missed school that day, meaning about 134,000. If half of those, 67,000, are illegal, that is a hell of alot of money that could be used to educate Americans. Can you actually offer up any evidence that more than 0.000001% of those who walked out were actually illegal and not just joining the rally to offer support?
  11. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 2, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) He has no shot to win ROY. Because Liriano and Johjima and Jeff Mathis and Howie Kendrick are really tearing it up! Edit, actually, it seems you're right, Paplebon is still considered a rookie isn't he? I thought he blew through the Service Time rule last season, but he was Rook of the month in Apr.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 2, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) I'm sure someone can get this for me. I've spent the last 5 minutes searching google for stats from the '04 presidential election and for whatever reason I've come up empty handed. Anyway, I need to know relatively how many women voted or what percentage of the overall voters were female. Check the excel spreadsheets here, they have all that data as far as I can tell.
  13. Fox News' Jon Gibson Neil Young:
  14. Everyone Everyone around here Everyone is so near What's going on? What's going on?
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 2, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) You all are looking for a problem here when there isn't one. Imagine that. He was charged for "doctor shopping". If one obtains a presecription from another doctor for the same medication in 30 days, whether it's 1 pill, 40 pills, or 2,000 pills, the law states you can't do it. Period. That was the charge he pled 'not guilty' to. Can we stop this now? /waiting for the 8,000 links that tell me I'm wrong. Ok, I didn't have a clue what the law said in Florida, and honestly I don't care. I got a Limbaugh mug shot, he got the treatment he needed (we hope), and now everyone can move on.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 2, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) But why do our hitting prospects come up with the same swing and same flaws. This is the only topic really worth talking about, IMO. Anderson isn't being replaced. Do y'all want Mack playing defense in CF? What is going on down in our minor leagues that every young guy we bring up has exactly the same problem these days? And why can't we get our hitting coaches to fix that problem?
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 2, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) You're right to run and hide because sending BMAC down would be f***ing stupid. It worked last year when he struggled at the start. And I'm sure he has ML options left, so if he really can't get things together and keeps getting shelled, maybe some time in AAA to get more adapted to the bullpen would be useful. Hopefully he's just having a bad week and he'll shut me up soon.
  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 2, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) No it was NOT what it was agreed to. The DA said the original charge was over 40 pills, that had NOTHING to do with what was "agreed to" on Friday. In that case, does that mean that there's some sort of a "40 pill dividing line" built into the law, where maybe it's more costly to do this sort of behavior a lot, and the plea agreement was that they'll only agree to have him settle on the lower pill level? Just guessing.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 2, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) Is this including the granny that BMAC tossed up yesterday? If so then that is even more impressive than I thought. As far as I know ESPN updates those stats nightly, so that outing should be in there. It does show up in Brandon's stats, so yeah, I'm pretty sure it's in there. We only have 2 relievers with ERA's over 4: BMac and Clifford.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 2, 2006 -> 12:44 PM) Granderson is also in his 1st major league season, and could hit 20 HR's and steal 20 SB's this season. I'd take him over Pods, because you'd have him under control for 5 to 6 seasons, while Pods is a FA after this one. Um, no he's not. This would have been his first Arbitration-eligible year had he not been under contract. As far as I can tell we should still have him through the end of 08.
  21. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 2, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) The bottom line is that the Sox are 18-8 and in first place, despite a wretched bullpen. Wretched? Our bullpen is currently 6th in the AL in ERA. It hasn't performed as well as it could/should, but it's far from wretched. We're .08 runs behind Jonathon "More Desirable than Albert Pujols" and the rest of the Red Sox bullpen.
  22. A few days ago, Mr. Bush said that the national anthem should be sung in English. During Bush's first Inaugural, Jon Secada sang part of the song in Spanish. Thank God we kept that flip flopping Kerry out of the White House, otherwise we'd never know what the President actually thinks.
  23. QUOTE(Damen @ May 2, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) See above. We all know you've got to rest guys. But when it's 3 starters at a time, Ozzie is severely hampering our ability to win that day. And again, it's 1 day. If we're undefeated with all 9 starters, a .500 team with 1 guy sitting, and a .200 team with 3 guys sitting, then over the whole season, we'd be better off playing all of our starters 2 games and resting 3 guys the third than we would be by resting 1 guy each game.
  24. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 2, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) No offense but at this rate I think that monkey in LA could call a better game... The pitch that hurt Buehrle the most was no where near where Widger wanted it.
  25. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) Could be. With all of our bench guys playing except him today. I know he is a lefty, but its a bit suspicious. Gload played today.
