  1. Man, games where you have a 7 run lead aren't supposed to be that hard. Cheers go to: Javy The Legend of Boone Logan The Legend of Bobby Jenks Paulie Scotty Mack whack tally whack And a few "Get your ass in gear" jeers: Neal Brandon Uribe Cleveland Indians dignity-less fans. :banghead Just think about 1 thing folks: Imagine PK signed with the Mets last offseason. 2 years later, he gets traded to either Cleveland or Minny. I bet you PK still gets a pretty darn big cheer.
  2. By the way, Kelvim Escobar will reportedly miss his next start with a blister on his throwing hand. Kevin Gregg will start in his place. Just thought you might wanna know.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 1, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) And the last time we did it, we won the WS. I figured that was implied.

By the way, I guess I'll be the one to point this out: the Chicago White Sox franchise record for wins in April? 17.
  5. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ May 1, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) Why Noah didn't enter the draft... http://www.deadspin.com/sports/college-bas...-nba-170658.php Because it worked out so well for Matt Leinart.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 1, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Because that's REALLY important stuff to know. :rolly Which is why it took a lawsuit that the administration fought tooth and nail for months in order to actually learn it.
  7. The Astros are again allowed to resign Roger Clemens as of today, and plan to contact his agent this week. The Minor League Umps REJECTED a proposed settlement of their strike. Former Pitcher Russ Swan died at the age of 42. Gary Sheffield only has a bruised hand, despite some worry about him having broken it. Brian Roberts hit the 15 day DL again. Mark DeRosa came off the DL for the Rangers. Royals Center Fielder Esteban German left a game after being hit in the face with a fly ball. That must be some interesting video. Ken Macha is going to meet with Billy Beane today to discuss the pitching woes in Oakland.
  8. So, thanks to a lawsuit by Judicial Watch, by May 10th the Administration is required to release the secret service logs showing how often Jack Abramoff visited the White House. We'll see.
  9. So, basically, San Diego swapped Mark Loretta for Josh Bard?
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 1, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) I'm thinking more along the lines of 3 yr 12 mill with some potential incentives. If he keeps up what he's doing thus far this season, We'll wish we would have signed him for that last year.
  11. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) LenDale White said he weighed 239 today... that would be much less than his playing weight at USC He's also been nursing a hamstring injury that we have no idea when he got it, or why it's taken so long to heal.
  12. QUOTE(rventura23 @ May 1, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) I think it would be great it he broke bonds record and I think he has a chance, hopefully people will continue to pitch to him. I like Pujols a lot. Well, you do have to admit, the 2 guys the Cardinals have to put behind Albert are, at least on paper, a step or two above what the Giants had back in 2001. Rolen & Edmunds can be pretty darn good when they set their minds to it.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 1, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) Nobody is giving the Tigers any respect because they've been down for so long. I'm not so sure they aren't deserving some respect. I seem to recall a team in 2005 that didn't get much respect, but had a pretty good year. They were already in first place at this point
  14. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 1, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) Yeah, I mean, you have to move Martinez to 1B asap if you're the Cleveland GM. The guy is an offensive monster, and at the same time, about as big of a defensive liability as you'll find out of the C slot. Ben Broussard is okay, I guess. Not exactly a long term building block. They're doing teams a favor by keeping him at 1B. The name Ryan Garko should answer your questions there I think.
  15. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) The protests started in March, The bill got out of Congress over the winter. March was when the Senate took up the same bill.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) We are on an energy grid. Add electricity in West Texas and someone in Maine benefits. How come garbage dumps aren't located near wealthy communities? How come prisons aren't located near wealthy communities? There are all sorts of things that people don't want in their backyard, and in our society, they seem to always wind up in some poor person's backyard, not wealthy Democrats _or_ Republicans. Not entirely on the first part...as you increase distance, resistance goes up, so you simply cannot transmit the power that far.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 1, 2006 -> 10:12 AM) I always wonder if this is a standard operating procedure for a President and that every other President in the past couple hundred years did this as well. It could be quiet because it is routine. I believe this graph appeared in the original BG article.
  18. And of course, the "Fox & Friends" review: "Over the line", "Not very funny."
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 1, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) I'm starting off May by agreeing with Sam IMNSHO, this is more about wealth and privilege than political viewpoint. Yeah, but one of the reasons this is noteworthy is that the people opposing it are from the side of the aisle that would be supporting it wholeheartedly if it didn't inconvenience them. It's not that surprising when a bunch of people who are in office because of oil tycoons oppose wind farms. It is a fairly big deal when people give speeches calling for alternative energy or raising the CAFE standards block a key wind farm that holds up alternative energy in the courts for years.
  20. So, I think the real question of the day is...if a guy grabs you by the balls on a basketball court, what do you do to him, and would you wind up being suspended?
  21. Let's hope that we finally have this foam problem fixed.
  22. QUOTE(Damen @ May 1, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) Anyone know why Uribe has abandoned that timing mechanism he had, lifting his left leg slowly as the pitcher began his windup, that seemed to work so well for him at the end of last year and the playoffs? Not a clue, but I was actually hoping someone would sit down with him and make some wholesale changes to his swing this offseason. His mistake should be obvious to anyone watching his swing; his head dives forwards like 2 feet every time he swings, so the ball has to absolutely dance to his eyes. IMO, someone ought to try the same thing people did with Andruw Jones on him...spread Uribe's legs out, get his balance better, and teach him how to swing while holding his head more steady so that he can actually see the ball coming in.
  23. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) Really? I'd say that Cotts is back in 2005 mode if his last 5 appearances are any indication. His upside = elite closer. I mean, s***, only one HR allowed in 60 IP last year? That's remarkable. Also: 2005: 4.5 BB/9 IP (1.94 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, .179 BAA) 2006: 2.7 BB/9 IP If he can continue to keep the walks down, he will turn out to be even more effective than he was last year, which is a scary thought. I have no problem with Cotts closing games for me. So, Neal Cotts has pitched 11 innings thus far. Over 11 innings, the difference between 4.5 and 2.7 BB/9IP is 2.2 walks. You're projecting an awful lot from 2 walks.
