  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 7, 2006 -> 05:47 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2399989 How did Pedro remain in the game agfter hitting Guillen twice? I can't stand it when umps give warnings just because a person was hit. Even if a guy gets hit a couple times, if the second one was just a nick on the wrists, it's clear he was just throwing inside, IMO. The batter can still be pissed off, and the other team can still retaliate, but unless it's painfully obvious that someone is being thrown at, just let the guys play.
  2. Time for Garland to start shutting the mouths of those fools who say the word "Fluke" with him. Go get em JG.
  3. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) I could see them finishing third in the central. They do have a lot of talent...but as usual, it's going to come down to pitching and injuries in the long run, and they may very well wind up lacking on both parts. Especially once they start facing the real quality pitching staffs of the Central.
  4. QUOTE(Soxy @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) Hey, I'll work 6 years for endless job security. . . Trust me, it's more than 6 years.
  5. Texas has scored 3 runs today too. And everyone remember how well the Dodgers started off 05, to the point that people were starting to look at the team, see guys like Depodesta and Bradley smiling because they were showing up all those sportwriters who didn't believe in the team? How did that work out for them?
  6. I think the Dodgers may not have known about the specific injury, but they do have big questions as to whether or not Gagne can get back the monster stuff he was throwing a couple years ago. He hasn't been above the low 90's since the end of 04 as far as I can tell.
  7. Torotno has taken a 6-2 lead going into the 7th. Beat up on Carlos Silva & Juan Rincon.
  8. QUOTE(Cali @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ai8H...ov=ap&type=lgns Why don't they just call up B.J. Upton? I remember a few broadcasts ago, during ST, Hawk was talking about how the D-Rays refuse to call up their young players. This is a perfect example of what he was saying, I mean I know it's 3 days into the season, but you know Tampa Bay isn't going anywhere, might as well have Upton up, and while you're at it Delmon Young can come with him. 2 reasons. Supposedly, B.J. Upton is just horrid at defense. Which is why Justin Upton is already being shifted to somewhere in the outfield IIRC. And that tells you something about the 2 franchises. Secondly, because the arbitration clocks haven't started yet on either Upton or Young. When you have some ability to resign players, you're ok bringing them up a little early and letting them develop in the big leagues because you can hold onto them for longer. But when you're the D-Rays and working on trying to beat the Yankees and Red Sox, your best bet is going to be to stockpile a ton of talent at AAA, bring them all up at once, and then hope that you can make it competitive for a couple years before you have to start losing or trading people. The arbitration clock flips to the next year some time in June, probably around the time of the draft. If they bring a guy up in April, he hits arbitration 1 year sooner than if they bring a guy up in July. I think you'll see both then.
  9. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) but anyways, my sox hat is absolutely filthy. (it's the ST hat with the silver brim, i bought it in '03 i believe.) Your hands feel grimey just from touching it, but I love it to death. I have one that's falling apart to the point I take it off my head and my head winds up with remnants of the inside lining on it. I think I got it either the year or the year after they switched to the new uniforms. I bought a new, standard one this year. That hat was put in a hallowed place as of October 26th of last year. It may make future appearances during future Octobers, since, well, it had a little bit of luck in it.
  10. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Which would be exactly the wrong thing to do. Which makes it more and more likely that it's exactly what we're going to do.
  11. Based on the 2005 records of their opponents, the Bears have the easiest schedule in the NFL in 2006.
  12. Noah Lowry left the Giants game today after 1.2 innings.
  13. 2 outs, Lieberthal and Delucci both have to get on against Izzy for Rollins to hit again.
  14. I tell you what...this would probably be the most interesting area to make a geological map I've ever seen.
  15. Phils go 1-2-3 in the 8th...they will need to get 2 baserunners against Izzy in the 9th for Rollins to get another at bat.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 02:47 PM) Not right off the bat? Then when would be a good time? August? Yes. If Logan has an ERA over 5 in August, and Ozzie brings him in to face Hafner with Cotts and Thornton sitting on the bench, that will be a perfect time, because that would mean Logan had failed way too many of Ozzie's previous tests.
  17. Rollins is now 0/4 with 2 outs in the 7th. The Phillies will need to get some baserunners against the Cardinals Bullpen in order for him to get a shot in the 9th.
  18. Jimmy Rollins is 0/3 in the 7th inning...he's coming up.
  19. The #8 and #9 hitters in the Braves lineup just went back to back. This includes catcher Brian McCann and Pitcher Jorge Sosa.
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) LOL. I got you now. I didn't understand what you meant. I'll have to disagree with you. I think it's silly to think they're playing him in hopes that he gets hurt again. I think that's very silly also. Which is sort of the point...playing Frank every game of a series is equally silly.
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) What incentives would they have to pay him if he was hurt? That question doesn't make sense to me, so let me clarify my remark: The A's played Frank Thomas in all 3 games. This is a mistake. He will get hurt if they continue doing so. If Frank gets certain #'s of plate appearances, his salary will go up. Therefore, the only good reason I can see for them to play Frank in every game of a series is that they want him to get hurt, and thus avoid reaching the incentives in his contract.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) More government regulations are most likely to blame for the decrease in supply. Actually, I would blame the human body for the decrease in supply, since the human body needs water, and that stuff has a real nasty habit of ruining drinking water. Also, the human body may have other problems due to the stuff, like cancer, but that's not well confirmed yet. If the human body didn't need drinking water or develop cancer, we'd be fine.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) I think its wrong because its illegal, and I think its illegal because it SHOULD be. No one should be allowed to walk into this country undocumented, unchecked, use up resources, fail to pay taxes, present unknown risks and do what they please. If they want in, get a Visa. I'm all for more visas and a migrant worker program. But at least then, we deal with ALL of those risks I mentioned above. And further, we reduce the risk to the immigrants as well, by making sure they have some protections under the law. So its not just that its illegal - its illegal for good reason. But it's also illegal for a very bad reason. If we believe the statements by many in this discussion...there is clearly a need for many of these 10 million or so workers. This means that there are people outside this country willing to fill jobs inside this country, but who we will not allow to immigrate legally because our immigration system is so far out of date. I think it is a safe guess that if you gave these folks the options of immigrating legally vs. illegally, almost all of them would choose the legal option. So there is a demand for these workers, there is a supply of these workers, but the system has not adapted to allow the demand to fill the supply. This leaves illegal immigration as 1 option for demand and supply to come back to equilibrium, but the only problem is that it's the most taxing one on all of those other services. That's a number I believe I heard sometime in the last week or so, I don't have a source for it, but I think it's in the ballpark. But my counterpoint to you is this: when you have money, there are people who will drive you across the border to places where you can follow other safe paths in. If 10,000,000 people have crossed that border, it's probably more of a risk that you'll be caught at the U.S. Customs desk coming in as a tourist than you will if you sneak in that way. And if you come through an airport, the U.S. would know you were here; sneak across the border and the U.S. wouldn't.
  24. Lee and Westbrook have been consistently above average pitchers for the last several years. They'll have very good games, and a few poor games thrown in there. Those 2 are not the ones who are going to determine what the Indians do this year. The ones who will decide that will be Sabathia, Byrd, and Johnson. Byrd and Johnson are the ones who may wind up being the whipping boys of that staff...they may be the ones who give up just enough runs for the Tribe to lose a game or two. Or they may have more bad games. Johnson has never impressed me, and Byrd is getting older and older. And then of course, Sabathia has to find a way to start over 25 games in a season. Their bullpen is decent, but I don't think it's great. We hammered the thing on Sunday. We ran into trouble with Mota, but Mota has a lot of problems that don't show up in 1 game (Injuries, etc.) We also saw their bullpen getting into a ton of jams late in yesterday's game, and the Tribe's opponents won't always have as much trouble with clutch hitting as we had yesterday. Wickman's health is also going to be a question mark in my eyes until he retires. I think we should take heart in the fact that we may very well have seen the best the tribe pitching could throw at us in the last 2 days, and the Sox still had a shot at least yesterday, if a couple of guys could get their heads into the game.
