  1. More ring ceremony photos here...nothing yet showing a better shot of the rings.
  2. QUOTE(3RDBASE @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) HE JUST GOT THE PIE IN DA FACE ON COMCAST! by MB...lmao Welcome to the majors Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooone! And not just any pie...the classic Mark Buehrle Shaving Cream pie.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) I agree, this should have been an opportuntity to learn flag etiquette. I am ashamed at how poor a job we do in teaching kids as a society about the flag and it's meaning, and how to properly display it. It is typically a 10 minute lecture in some Social Science class. They should have a flag ceremony every day and allow every kid to raise and lower the flag during the course of the year. Prior to heading off to Grad School, I spent some time selling Vacuum cleaners, and did a lot of it door-to-door. I can't tell you how many times I saw flag rule violations. I mean, I understand if you forget to take it in during a rainstorm sometimes...but come on, when I walk up to your door and the flag is lying on your steps, not even folded or anything...or when you're taking it down and you just kinda toss it on the ground while you're tying up the ropes on your flag pole, I mean jeeze. I had a habit of leaving notes on the doors of the particularly bad ones, where it was just lying around.
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) I figured, but why not last night at the Cell? Bob Castellini owns the Reds. (That's just this election cycle. All of those candidates are Republicans.) Jerry Reinsdorf has had the audacity to not give hefty donations to either party...with no donations above $1000 to any candidate yet this cycle, and some going to members of both parties (Evan Bayh, Dan Lipinski, Jim Kolbe among them).
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 04:15 PM) Nite's writing for the White Sox now. http://whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/ar...t=.jsp&c_id=cws There was, IIRC, an article that said exactly that about Jon Garland a few weeks before Garland re-upped, and there were articles about Contreras for the last few months. You know what that is? It's saying "Hey Mark...we don't need you...sign here."
  6. QUOTE(Dan @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) not vocal enough to be a manager IMO Jerry Manuel would disagree with you...but that would involve speaking.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) Boston isn't going to enjoy the steroidless version of Mikey. That is going to be a disaster in a hurry. Remember, in that lineup, he doesnt' have to do all that much. He could produce less than we're hoping Anderson will do in Chicago, and he'll have done his job: bring Beckett to the Red Sox.

    Motorcycles

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) I knew someone was going to say that. Well, it is a valid point. You are more likely to die in a motorcycle accident than you are an automobile accident, but you're also more likely to die in an automobile accident than you are if you, say, take a train to work. Where do you draw the line in how much risk you think is unacceptable?
  9. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) So, Politte can't go more than an inning? I realize that's not how he's typically used, but we're going to need somebody other than B-Mac who can be relied upon to throw more than an inning at a time. Thornton. Cotts. BMac. And if it comes down to it, Jenks. All can throw 1+ innings when needed.
  10. The Pirates gave a 1 year extension to the contract of their GM Dave Littlefield yesterday. His deal now runs through 08, and has been extended on the last 2 opening days. The Marlins have had serious discussions about moving to San Antonio. Derrick Turnbow has himself a shiny new $6.5 million, 3 year deal with the Brew crew. Todd Jones., the Tigers' hope for a closer this season, will start the year on the DL. The White Sox will visit Detroit April 10th to 13th for a 3 game set which will open the season at Comerica. Jones will not be with them, and Fernando Rodney will re-assume the Closing duties he had last year while Troy Percival was on the DL. Byung-Hyun Kim and catcher Yorvit Torrealba will start the y ear on the DL for the Rockies. Mike Cameron, Ryan Klesko, and Doug Brocail will all start the season on the DL for the Padres. Armando Benitez will start the season on the DL for the Giants.
  11. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) IIRC, he didn't have much movement on his pitches and the last out was a liner to left, but he got the job done without walks. He might be OK as a mop-up guy. Agreed that Politte didn't look good last night. He can't be realistically expected to post a 2.00 ERA again, but he needs to keep it under 4.00. Otherwise, we might be forced to trade for a veteran long-reliever. First off...Politte is not a long reliever, he's a short reliever. And secondly...we already have a damn good long reliever. He demolished the Indians for 3 innings last night. And he needs a shave.
  12. Thornton looked promising to me last night. He had a few pitches that were pretty wild, but he was also working while ahead in the count to several guys, and racking up a few balls in-between pitches fouled away. If you start a guy off 1-2, it's ok to miss with a couple pitches if you're trying to get the batter to chase something, and he was doing a little of that. The thing that worried me with Thornton last night was that once he did get ahead of guys like Boone at the end...he didn't seem to be able to just put them away. When you throw 96+ from the left side, you ought to be able to do something to put a guy away within a pitch or two after you get them 1-2, but they were able to foul off a bunch of his strikes. That worried me.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan13 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) Same here. Freddy is younger and more proven than Contreras in my opinion. Again...the same thing that makes him more desirable for us also makes him more desirable for other teams. Other teams might not want to trade for a guy who's probably pushing 37-38 and threw a lot of 150 pitch games in Cuba. Then again, when Jose wins 20 this year, that may be a moot point.
  14. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 10:01 AM) Is McCarthy throwing a screwball? During the game last night, there were 3-4 times where he threw an offspeed pitch (about 77 MPH on ESPN's gun) that had 2-seam break on them. Is this a variation of his change, or is he actually throwing a screwball? I thought that was just his change being incredibly nasty when he threw it, but it could have been something new I guess.
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) No, not most, but the sentiment is what I'm talking about. Well, you did say that in "Most" cases it wasn't about their heritage. Yes, that sentiment exists and yes there were probably people in the crowds in Chicago or L.A. who subscribe to it, but there are probably Klansmen who come out to wave at the President when he holds a rally, and there are communists (ANSWER) showing up at the anti-war rallies. The presence of some groups you don't like doesn't necessarily discredit the entire movement, IMO. (Otherwise, the Rose Parade every year would be pretty bad, based on the guys who follow up the last official parade entry with giant signs telling us how we're all going to Hell)
  16. So, it's been rumored for a while now that Treasury Secretary John Snow might be replaced with someone who's job it is to repeat in a louder voice every Bush Economic position...but now there's rumors about Scott McClellan leaving as well
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) My beef with the "mexican flag" being flown is in most cases it wasn't about "heritage"... it was about sticking it up our rear end and "to take back what is theirs". Screw that. So wait, you're seriously buying the idea that most of the people flying the Mexican Flag in these protests are in those groups that want to reclaim California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas for Mexico?
  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 09:39 AM) Hopefully Damaso, Viz, Duque, Blum, etc are there to accept their rings. Pittsburgh has a game Tuesday...but it's a night game and they're in Milwaukee, so Marte might have a chance to show. San Diego has a game Tuesday night in S.D., so Blum probably is busy. Arizona and Philly both have off days Tuesday. Seattle does not.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 06:53 AM) I wonder how much it would cost to enforce the law? Checking at every employer on a regular basis? There is a simple solution to that problem, and it's one our government does regularly. Offer people a reward for turning in offenders. The government has programs where government workers or private citizens who expose fraud that helps the government recoup its funds are entitled to something like 10% of the amount recovered...so if it's like $100 million recovered, there's good incentive to turn people in who are breaking the law. Offer up something valuable to folks for turning in these employers. Say...a green card?
  20. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) ill see it to believe it, and no way Mota stays healthy all year. And even more importantly...I can't imagine Wickman staying healthy all year again either.
  21. Hope you had a fun night Cleveland! See you Tuesday!
