  1. By the way, if we don't win it this inning...I sure wouldn't complain if we went to 10, just to give Thornton a 2nd inning & see how he does. He was formerly a starter.
  2. I just adore how Sowell spends so bloody long talking about how we don't need all these extra crops, the crops are just costing money, we don't need all these workers...and then blames it all on the immigrants, without ever even giving a second thought to really dealing with the people who are lobbying for those federal tax dollars, arranging the water deals, and hiring the illegals...the EMPLOYERS! Saw what I thought was a brilliant idea today. Offer a green card to any undocumented worker who turns in an employer for hiring undocumented workers. You'll end the illegal immigration problem in however long it takes the authorities to drive to the business. Oh, 1 more Sowell bit: Bull plop. Ever present a driver's license just to prove your ID at a job? I know I have. Repeatedly. Or given a SS number or a Drivers License number on a job application? I know I have.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) Matt Thornton is warming. Good, I'm hoping he can get in a few more games now that Coop's had some time to fiddle with his mechanics. He's probably going to be the most interesting guy in the pen to watch for the next month, just to see if things work.
  4. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) B-Mac looked good. His fastball was 93 MPH at one point. That is B-Mac I know. I still say I saw him throw 93 a few weeks ago...he just has been mainly working on other pitches, especially that 2 seamer at 89, most of the spring.
  5. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Good news on Cintron... :puke
  6. Abramoff: 5 years, 10 months, pay back $21 million.
  7. Fun story. Republican Congressional Candidate in CA Howard Kaloogian(for Duke Cunningham's seat) goes to Iraq. Comes back home. Says the media is distorting things in Iraq. Posts a picture on his website of happy people walking through the streets (no bombings, etc.) Blogosphere takes a look at photo. A day or so of work. Candidate defends the photo as genuine. Photo disappears from website. Photo location found...in Istanbul. Candidate blames mistake on his webmaster. Priceless.
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Against an over trillion dollar deficit, it is chump change. Would you care to compare that to foreign aid dollars or the interest we pay countries like China on our debt? Compared to foreign aid it's actually quite significant, according to the foreign aid numbers from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Total U.S. foreign Aid (aid for development, disasters, etc.) was about $19 billion in the last year numbers are fully available at their page (2004).
  9. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Are they really extending the amount of time they can retain these guys at all? Didn't they already have like 5 more years before Sizemore could become a FA? It seems to me that they're basically paying these guys more than they have to now to get an extra year on the end and hope they return the favor when they hit free agency. If you have full confidence that they won't get hurt or fall apart, it's a pretty good gamble. I think they get the guys to cut 1 extra year out of FA, which probably is cutting out $10+ million from their contracts, and they never have to go to arbitration with them, which in some cases is cutting $5-$10 million out for those seasons, so I think it's a pretty safe bargain, as long as people don't get hurt. I think Cleveland probably is coming out on top in most of these deals, but they're giving their young guys more money early in exchange.
  10. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) Health is probably the only thing that prevented him from being put into consideration. He's a great coach, but his health is such a question mark/liability that it's got to scare potential suitors. About the only thing that could make IU's basketball team look worse right now (other than discovering that Davis had violated rules or something) would be pulling a Notre Dame...hiring some guy, then getting stuck having to hire a replacement when he pulls out. USC got stuck with Tim Floyd when that happened. If Majerus had dropped 100 pounds this season, I'd have said OK, but he sure hasn't. He's a big risk for any program. It only makes sense if you're trying to get a program back up that hasn't been good in a while.
  11. Let's all remember Re: Owens that his arbitration clock hasn't started yet IIRC. If we bring him up before the end of June, he hits FA a year earlier. (Oh, and he's never played an at bat in AAA before this camp too.) I still think Pods is just suffering from trying to get back into baseball shape after sitting out not only the offseason but the first couple weeks of ST because of the shoulder. This sort of soreness I would bet would happen to >80% of the people who have that exact surgery then come back and immediately try to start going full speed and stealing bases. It's just happening now because of his shoulder problem. Sort of a shame he didn't report a week earlier.
  12. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 07:04 AM) Rest him til mid April. Let's not underestimate how much Pods helps the team. It's also entirely possible that this is just something that will need to work itself out through work. If you rest it too much, he may stand back up in Mid April, go back to running the bases, and have it flare right back up. He may just need to get work and get used to the scar tissue.
  13. Mark Prior and Kerry Wood have officially hit the 15 day DL. In a related story...it's March.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) This Orlando team has scary deep talent up front. Combine that with somebody like Brandon Roy or Randy Foye (hey that rhymed) or even Carney or Brewer to play guard off of their high pick this year, and look out (although even with the pick, they still will need another guard). Even all that talent Orlando has, you know, that's not what scares me the most about them. Know what scares me the most? Thanks to their good friend Isiah Thomas...coming up here in like 2 years, they have 2 very large expiring contracts. Which means they will have some of the largest cap room in history. During the year that Lebron, Melo, Bosh, Wade, Hinrich all can try the unrestricted FA market.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) ok? Link
  16. Jeremy Reed meet Mark Buehrle. Mark Buehrle, Jeremy Reed.
  17. QUOTE(SouthsideBlitz @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) 1 - 2 - 3 inning for B.Logan Expect Jenks coming in next or logan for one more inning If Whitesox.com wasn't lying, Jenks should have the 8th and 9th.
  18. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Family Guy is on and thanks to the niceties of Time Zones...I should be able to watch both! Woo-Hoo!
  19. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) How long until practically everyone starts using the Rally Crede avatar?
  20. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) Thome may rip Byrd up but that does not mean the rest of the lineup will. Sometimes it only takes 1 guy. Especially when you have our pitching staff ripping up their hitters.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) Crede with the gapper, Uribe scores. 1-1 See what happens when I post a Rally Crede picture in a game thread?
  22. QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) i hope that thortonson pitches today too (if we play that is.) Thortonson? + = ?
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) I guess Podsednik's groin isn't feeling too great today. Yesterday, the Sox said that he could play today. If It's raining/had rain in the area, I wouldn't risk it if I were them. Hopefully the weather will be the only reason.
  24. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Has us beating the Cards in the World Series. Hopefully this doesn't qualify for the "SI curse". Pujols should be on the cover of that one. I don't think that the SI Curse is strong enough to even bring that ball he hit off of Lidge back to earth, let alone slowing him down for an entire season.
