  1. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) DP World would have had control over cargo screening and would have had some input for security hiring. It would not be controlled entirely by the Coast Guard. For some reason I didn't put a link in it so I don't have the source, but I quoted this on like page 3 of this thread.
  2. QUOTE(Timoperezrulez @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) Whens the " Timo Perez night" gonna be at the cell this year? So, Timo bought one of those wedding packages? Congrats to him! I bet he paid for JR to do the ceremony.
  3. In 2004, Rumsfeld made $5 million selling shares of Gilead Sciences, the company which manufactures Tamiflu, the drug governments around the world are stockpiling as the only current defense against the Bird Flu.
  4. Of course...Maybe we'd be better off if they were running everything. We're certainly doing one sh*tty job. If nothing else...this whole mess has made the media pay some attention to port security, which has been so pathetically lacking over the last 5 years it's amazing. Now that Ports are suddenly in the news, the AP had a reason to start digging, and viola.
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) They wouldn't have been. Why do people keep saying that? There's a difference between owning something and running something. They would have been able to have some significant input in several ways, including hiring, even hiring of some security personnel. So it wouldn't be them entirely divorced from everything.
  6. Lowest seed ever to win the Big East tourney, first team ever to do so after playing 4 straight games, yowza.
  7. It makes a lot of sense for someone like NO to try for Brees...no effort at development...high draft pick which could be traded to another team looking for a QB or used for O-Line or Defense. Hell, most teams shooting for Brees would probably be making a good move.

    10 grand

10 and 1/2 months of writing, looking up stats, and being annoyingly liberal = 10,000 posts. 1 nice shiny looking trophy and one hell of a memorable year = priceless. Thanks guys. Being here last year made that run even more special than it would have been otherwise.
  9. Ok, Now Indiana is in trouble. With this team, we can only count on the other team's guys being cold for just so long it seems. We have to get hot before they do otherwise whoever we're playing just starts to pull away.
  10. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) what does "all the way down to 1000 feet" mean? and Am i stupid enough to have read that and thought you meant it will snow 1000 feet? Yes i am. Due to adiabatic decompression and cooling, when you have elevation gradients of a few thousand feet and a rainstorm hits, you can get snow at the top of a range and rain at the bottom...and based on the ambient temperature, you can figure out what level the snow will turn into rain. The weather forecasters out here usually give you the level that the snow will start turning into rain. The colder it is, the lower it goes.
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) I agree. If the spring has been any indication, Jose is primed for a 20 win season. He looks outstanding so far. I don't think he's walked one batter all spring. If he doesn't walk people, he's unbeatable. That was the rule all year last year, with only 1 exception. By the way, we want to talk something that could balance out a weaker year from the bullpen...how about a stronger 1st half from Jose now that he seems to just be throwing strikes? That could be 5-7 more wins right there.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) I've heard rumors of this from more than one source. Well, I'm not quoting any rumors...just my best guess about how you could go from a 98 mph fastball to an 88 mph fastball in 1 year conveniently at the same time as the testing starts. Especially when you were throwing the 98 in Oakland. Hell, after watching Oakland's guys for a few years all have mysterious drops in performance, I was worried when we signed Dye last year. Thank God he turned out all right.
  13. Actually hailed here yesterday too. There's talk of snow all the way down to 1000 feet today. That happens...i'll have an entertaining view from my window (looks right out onto the highway)
  14. If we need a guy in the outfield, it's Mack. If we need a guy in the infield...I go based on need. Do we need a guy to pinch run or lead off (because Pods has a day off or something)? Ozuna. Do we need a guy to hit 2nd behind Pods and give either Uribe or Iguchi a break? Then probably Cintron. Nice thing about that bench...it's Hella flexible, and Ozzie can play matchups with his reserves all he wants.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) Jenks would have to lose about 10mph off his fastball to be Koch the sequel. I still think Koch was juicing.
  16. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) Funny how much we agree outside of politics... Even if Jenks turns out to be a bust, we have mucho starting pitching available for a trade. Contreras-for-Lidge would be a possibility. If we haven't traded Jose yet...we're not going to. Especially not if he keeps up the way he's pitching right now into the first half of the season.
  17. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) Not at all pretty, but a good game so far. OSU is in trouble if Marco gets going. And IU is in trouble if OSU gets going. This should be an interesting 2nd half.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) I don't give a f*** about tools, I give a f*** about the fact that Brand puts up 20 and 10 every year at the 4 while playing solid defense, and Tyson is never going to be able to put up numbers resembling that. Best case senario is that turns out to ONLY be a bad trade for the Bulls. 25 and 10 this year. I still say...let's wait a couple more years. If we wind up with a nice and fancy trophy because we decided to trade for a younger guy 6 or 7 years beforehand, I won't mind the numbers Brand puts up at all. It's also worth wondering btw, whether or not the Bulls would have held onto Brand through FA. Brand tried to leave the Clippers as a restricted FA but they matched the offer he got...if he was really determined to leave Chicago he could have just played out his 4 years here and left for nothing.
  19. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) Washington. Eh, with as little money as they have to play with, they worry me less than the other guys. The Bears should be able to outbid them at a reasonable price. The other guys are the ones who could actually overpay for El if they really felt like they needed to.
  20. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Of course, JR and KW might not like what the arbitrator has to say next year and decide to trade him. I don't see any chance in hell of us re-signing him over the long term with Boras negotiating his deals. On that we agree...which is why we have a 3rd baseman who's been raking in the spring about to hit AAA. They drafted Fields because of Boras...on that I don't think there's any doubt. The only question looks to be when they'll decide Fields is ready...and if they'll move Crede to make room for him if he is ready. I seriously would't be surprised if we see a couple of the 05 guys dealt at the end of this year if guys like Sweeney, Owens, and Fields have great years in AAA.
  21. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) Thats a good signing for the Browns. Looks like they are trying to improve their offense this year. They need a quarterback.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) We've had two straight seasons where our closer (Shingo/Hermanson) pitched out of their minds. Both of them were amazing during their closer stretch during their particular season, and I think we took them for granted. I'm confident Jenks will do well, and I don't anticipate Koch Jr. If Jenks somehow has his fastball drop 10 mph like the closer who will not be named who came here along with Neal (Thank you for that throw in KW)...then he'll be in deep trouble. Jenks is going to be the key to this bullpen. The closer almost always is. I think I like the idea of having a guy who can throw 100 be the guy we need to succeed the most.
  23. Aside from Pittsburgh and Dallas, who else would be interested in Randle El's services? Those have been the other 2 teams I've heard floated.
