  1. The word on ESPN about Alford last night was that Alford would probably take the job, but only if it was basically offered up to him on a silver platter. Their report was that Alford didn't want to go through an interview process where he was one of 4 or 5 candidates.
  2. One of the big things I've learned about biking around here is that y ou can't assume that people are going to see you at intersections. And even if they can see you, you can't assume they're going to stop. I got clipped in the rear wheel about 2 years ago on my way in to school in the morning, since then I've tried to be exceptionally careful at intersections, but I usually still bike across them unless something looks really bad.
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:46 AM) You're also convieniently forgetting that the GOP also got more votes in those same elections Not in the Senate.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) My hope is that the memory of Sept. 11, 2001 stays respectful and low-key. I would never want to hear people say "Oh, that poor guy got Twin Towered" the way people use the term "Pearl Harbored" now. I've never heard that phrase.
  5. How the hell is that a crime? "possession of a look-alike substance"? It's illegal there to put Oregano in a ziplock bag? Yeesh.
  6. I think it's going to be a great season to watch, but I do have to admit, I just can't say I feel as desperate to win one as I did last year..
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) nope. Born in America, Miami I believe. Its ridiculous but no more than Piazza playing for Italy and there are a few other examples. A-Rod catches the heat because of two things: He's an easier target and high profile, and because the DR is a legitimate threat to win it all whereas Italy would not be Alex Rodriguez...Born, NEW YORK, NEW YORK. Linky.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) Stuart "cock eyed boo yeah!" Scott said James Augustine's name wrong twice in one highlight tonight, proving yet again he's the biggest idiot on TV today. If you think he's the biggest idiot on TV...man you need to watch more TV.
  9. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) that seemed like a real objective article. that was so ridiculous it seems fake. IF they are gonna claim she says it was part of the vast right wing conspiracy, quote her. It seemed like she said what the media, citizens and fellow politicians have been saying...why was there so much delay. This article seemed like utter bulls***. THe article isn't fake, but thus far none of the pieces I've found (all of which seem to be appearing only on conservative sites, i.e. Newsday, Newsmax, NY Daily News, etc.) actually say she used the phrase "vast right wing conspiracy" here. I think Newsday was just bringing that old one up to try to keep the smear delicious and tasty.
  10. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:06 PM) Where are they gonna get it from? I think Millwood is gonna struggle in that park. Who else do they have? That depends on your definition of "Struggling". Putting up an ERA of 4.50 would be struggling in most parks. You do that in Coors field and you're one of the best pitchers in the league. Yes, Millwood will probably struggle in that he'll have a high ERA compared to last year, but so will the pitchers he's opposing. The Rangers also picked up starter Adam Eaton and reliever Akinori Otsuka from the Padres, added Vicente Padilla, and a couple of young guys named Juan Dominguez and Kameron Loe. Again, that's not going to challenge the White Sox rotation, but when you're one of the top 2-3 offenses in baseball, you don't have to have the best pitching anywhere in order to win games.
  11. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) What's the first result from google of the word "failure?" Are you familiar with the term "Google Bombing"?
  12. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) :rolly listen to Kicking Television...not only is it the best produced live record i've heard in a while, it highlights the amazing addition of Nels CLine and WILL give you a new appreciation for a ghost is born. Plus summerteeth is right up there with YHF for me... she's a jar and via chicago are very beautiful On the other hand, I can understand completely how some people could not be into them.
  13. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) It'll be between them and Oakland. I think a lot will depend on how some of their young guys produce. I'd rank them just slightly over the A's right now. I think it's a mistake to write off the Rangers just yet...The Yankees and Red Sox have both shown us in recent years that if you get just a little bit of pitching but team it with a great offense you can really make a run at 95-100 wins and a division. Texas has a great offense, so they just need a little bit of pitching to make it interesting. They haven't had that yet.
  14. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) This is so embarrassing and pathetic. Of all people to make such comments... but Hillary Clinton? ROFL, the irony is delicious. It's nice that these great leaders of our country are laughing about a guy being shot though. Especially when the fat-headed drunk Ted Kennedy actually drowned one of his girlfriends in a drunken stupor years ago and "forgot" to call the police. Ok, someone else brought it up, so I feel OK in using this one.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) I know. I'm glad we've got Hinrich instead of Lebron. Cuck the Fubs made me see the light. Given that Darko, Melo, Bosh, Wade, and Chris Kaman all went between us and Lebron...I'd say we came out as good as could be expected. But I'd have been happy to trade Brand and the 7th pick for Bron. Wait, what, we traded Brand? You're kidding me!
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) Yeah and differing from Pelosi/Dean/Reid on Iraq clearly makes you not a Democrat. *cough* Liebermann *cough* :rolly Yeah, because no Democrat would EVER vote for a person who voted to support the war! Ever! The whole party is united in their exclusion of every person who voted for that resolution! Wait, who'd we run for President in 04? I forgot.
  17. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) Bush's core will never stray off the ranch. Period. Until after they're fired/retired, at which point either they or their top assistants start writing angry books attacking the Administration.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) Some liberals want the whole story, enjoy the jokes, and are critical of the long delays. Some conservatives will blame the media, and defend anything their guy does. So is it ok that I'm enjoying the jokes? I think that's about all I've posted in this thread other than the clip from this afternoon of Cheney saying he had a beer earlier in the day.
  19. FINALLY! YAY! ESPN's already asking Alford about the job. Supposedly Alford has already indicated he'd be interested, but not if he has to go through a long, drawn out interview process.
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) I hear this deal is only 50-50 now. I hope it goes through. I want Milicic to show what he has. As of like 5 minutes ago it looks like ESPN is saying its' a done deal.
  21. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) He should accept the blame, it was an accident, it was his fault. But much to the dismay of the democrats, this isn't going to get Bush or Cheney out of office. You mean shooting a guy in the face is not an impeachable offense?
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) The loss of Molina will hurt them more than they think. I didn't buy into the A's last season but I think they will win the division this year. The Angels may keep it close but will probably end up contending for the Wild Card. I don't even know if the Angels are good enough to contend for the W.C, unless both the As and Rangers wind up having picked up lemons this offseason. If the Angels are going to contend, they need a bunch of things to go right...vlad can't get hurt, Mathis, Kotchman, and probably McPherson need to have decent years with the bat, Anderson needs to stay healthier than he did last year, Colon needs to stay healthy, Weaver needs to stay healthy, etc. The A's were pretty darn good last year, and it's hard to say they haven't gotten better. They're a young team which has gotten older, and they've added some decent bats, assuming they don't explode in the clubhouse. They're better than last year even if Thomas doesn't play much. But they do need Crosby and Harden to stay healthy.
  23. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) You are dead on, I just dislike previews in general. As far as I'm concerned, it gives us a chance to look back and laugh at the poor souls who tell us every year that the teams with the best shot at the W.S. are the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, and Twinkies.
