  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Haha, so true. Many of the posters there would rather trade for Zito than Contreras. I really can't argue with that. Zito has had more consistent success than Contreras. If I were sitting there, not having watched a ton of Sox games last year...I'd go with the lefty who had won a Cy Young too. That said...If I had to pick the Zito of last year versus the Contreras of the 2nd half last year...there's not a doubt in my mind I pick Jose, even over the righty.
  4. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 05:20 PM) In addition, how many of Dye's injuries were freak accidents? Spider bites. That's all I'm gonna say about that. Spider bites.
  5. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) it was originally an interview about Holmgren. can't blame him for answering questions that he was asked. Just like T.O.?
  6. The motion for cloture on the nomination of Justice Samuel Alito has reportedly passed. He will serve on the Supreme Court.
  7. Picturing AJ bashing someone over the head with the trophy....
  8. I'll take any publicity our team can get. Sells tickets. And I think he has a much better chance of getting hurt driving to the WWE event than he does actually doing anything there.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) I will add that I saw him at the bulls game on sat. And he looked to be close with crede, cotts, konerko, and BMAC. Aww damn, Crede and BA were there too? I had to rush back into the room when I heard one of them announcers say "And we had some special guests here at halftime"...I only managed to make out Konerko, Cotts, BMac (hard to miss) and Man So Lee I think.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) my bad. didn't really think of this being a "political" debate topic. more of a business debate topic. as-in, market sets the price, blah, blah. If you're asking for government interference in market pricing for a vital good with a highly inelastic demand curve (which thus produces large increases in price associated with small increases in demand), then yes it is very much a political topic.
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) Borch is the easy pick right now, but if Owens comes on really strong, and Borch really screws up out his chance, I dont think Kenny and Ozzie will have any problem putting him on the bench. I still don't like the idea of putting owens in the big time yet...he's only had 1 really successful year in the minors as far as I know (last year at AA ball), he hasn't really faced even AAA pitching, he has several things to learn still (defense, base-stealing techniques), and as far as I know his arbitration clock hasn't started yet. I know it doesn't seem like a huge thing, but if Borchard doesn't make the 25 man roster this year...we lose him completely. Someone will claim him off waivers. If nothing else, I'm just going to continue hoping for an average year from him just so we can trade him to someone desperate for an outfield bat after an injury. If we've invested that much time and that much $$ in a guy...if there's any potential left there at all (and he still does perform pretty well at AAA), then I don't think it's a good idea to just waste all that investment.

Did anyone else read the title of this thread and think "He gone"?
  13. Great...just what that stadium needs...something else on the roof for the wind to tear off....
  14. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) And has any pitcher fizzled out as quickly as Shingo after a great season? Billy Koch?
  15. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 01:52 AM) Yeah, expect another 40 HR and 100 RBI from that Dodgers/Reds castoff. Good to see some love though. What a difference a year, and a World Series championship can make. With an OBP guy like Thome in front of him instead of Everett, and a guy who can spell PK at 1st base every now and then...I wouldn't be surprised if PK drove in 120+, especially if somehow he avoids his season-starting-slump that he had last year.
  16. If Timo doesn't get the chance to hit against Radke and the Twins last year...I'd hate to see his total average. He hit .308 against the Twins pitching staff. 8 of his 39 hits came off of Twins pitching.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 06:43 AM) 100 percent correct, however I am VERY concerned that Ozzie will stick with Borch too long (ie Timo Perez) and leave Owens in the minors. As long as Borchard doesn't spend a month leading off... Seriously...even if he only hits .220 or so like Timo did last year, he'll probalby put up 5-10 home runs, as opposed to 1 for Timo. It won't hurt us too badly to use him as a backup outfielder. He simply cannot be worse than Timo...and if somehow he turns out to be, then it won't cost us that much to trade for an outfielder who can hit .220.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 04:15 AM) I'm more concerned about health and any changes to his off season routine that may have occured. That may cause a slow start before adjusting to pitchers. And remember, they have to adjust to him as well. I'll take a HoF hitter adfjusting faster than a run of the mill 3-4-5 starter. If Thome is Healthy...I expect him to put up very good numbers. Aside from last year, he put up very good, consistent numbers for the last 10 years or so. The only real question I have with him is health, and I'm hoping being a DH will be a good solution to that. If he's healthy, I'm fully expecting 40 HR, and if he doesn't hit that while healthy, I will probably be disappointed.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 01:25 AM) Huge internet, millions and millions of sites, and we just hang out here It's so shockingly much less painful than dealing with my personal life right now.
  20. Every part of that lineup will probably move around a lil' bit this season except for hopefully Pods, Thome, and Konerko. I do wonder why you want Crede hitting behind BA and in front of Pods though. Less pressure? I dunno, but Pods just isn't good protection for a batter no matter what.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) Damn that quadratic formula. You would be amazed how often I still run into that damn thing.
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) Interestingly enough, as the Bulls came dangerously close to blowing this game, Chandler was doing NOTHING...according to both the naked eye and stat sheet. Tyson however had a couple of BIG rebounds as the Bulls had a mini run to put it away late. Bulls by 11 with 47 seconds left, on their way to ANOTHER win. Good to see them playing better, and should be interesting to see how this upcoming road trip goes. Didn't Tyson get into a bit of foul trouble in quarter 3, causing Skiles to sit him down for a while when the Hawks started that run? He spent a long time on the bench in the 2nd half, which is why he didn't score much more. Plus there were quite a few guys just chucking up shots and missing from the outside when it started getting close.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 07:00 PM) I doubt it. A player is only eligible for RotY if he has spent less than 45 days on the major league roster. That is correct. As it stands right now, neither Jenks nor McCarthy (nor Borchard for that matter if he makes the roster) are ROY eligible next year. BA is. Tracy is if he makes the roster...ditto basically anyone else from our minors who does.
