  1. Did anyone ask him if they're planning on bringing back any of the players who were traded away for the ring ceremony if their team isn't playing that day? That's what the BoSox did with a couple guys last year. If no one knows this...what's his email? I'll ask.
  2. QUOTE(crazyman26 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) It will be interesting to see if he stay healthy enough to start 140-145 games this year, something he didnt do last year. I do think Josh Fields will replace him as the starting 3rd baseman next year though. It will be interesting if they try to send Crede to the minors next year, taking the risk he wont clear waivers since he will be 28, try to trade him, dont take the salary arb. making him a free agent, or just use him as a utility infielder next year? I think Joe managed to get through the back problem well enough and keep playing (although August was pretty bad)...the main reason he missed time last year though was that freak injury when he was plunked on the hand, and you can'tr eally blame himf or that. Joe Crede will not be going to the minors next year...and I for 1 will be surprised if Fields is ready to come up and start in 07, I think he may well need at least a decent portion of 07 in AAA before his swing and defense are where we'd like them.
  3. Pods will start in center... When B.A. Needs a day off.
  4. Congrats sir! The Fiancee on this end has her heart set on 7/7/07...it looks very likely we'll get it done as of now.
  5. Jesus Christ. You know, sometimes I just thank God that we have a good liberal like Chris Matthews, who you know used to work for Carter, out there selling our party's point of view on MSNBC. And also...Thank God that girl turned up dead in Scarborough's office...otherwise he wouldn't be out there to help build MSNBC's liberal side either.
  6. Senate Majority Leader and alleged insider trader Bill Frist: Samuel Alito is the "Worst Nightmare" of Democrats.
  7. Jesus only wants straight people rolling eggs to celebrate his death!
  8. Brian sings 2 different lines in that episode. He sings the first part, through "with tears in your eyes", in front of the "Bachelorette" camera where he's in an interview. Later in the episode...he visits Brooke @ her place after sending her an answering machine in the mail. He pulls out a guitar, strums a few cords and just sings "Brooke I'm so in love with you" before the answering machine nails him in the head. I didn't recognize the 2nd tune.
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) That's true to an extent. But even with Kobe and Rudy, their longest winning streak of the year was 3 games. And they only did that once. They totally fell apart the last 6 weeks when their schedule got tough. I don't care if he cares. I think it was a dumb move. It wasn't about money. He pulls the same s*** every 2-3 years. The guy is a walking soap opera. In two years, he'll get bored and want to go somewhere else. Eventually Brown will just be too damn old, and the soap opera will have to end. Living in LA, I watched the Lakers a fair amount last year, and they were actually not terrible the first half of the season, much like this year. When Kobe Bryant has teammates that he moves the ball to with success, that team works. But if they lose Kobe, even for a short period, they have nothing. In recent NBA history, it's very rare for players to go full seasons without Nagging injuries if they're not in Detroit. Shaq, Wade, AI, Kobe, KG, Duncan...they all find themselves hurting. When and if Kobe really takes a hit that slows him down, that team will totally crumble, just like last year.
  10. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) You know, im not worried about Uribe's hitting as much as I am worried about what he does when Pods is on base. Uribe is a free swinger, always has been. Can he bunt? Can he hit behind the runner? Is he patient enough to take a pitch and wait for Pods to steal a base? These are the things I am worried about, not so much his hitting. Iguchi already proved he is up to the task on those things, we will see what Uribe is doing during ST. I think we saw Uribe do a couple of those things last year. He can hit behind runners pretty well - for example, last year for a good portion of the year he was leading the league in sac flies, etc. What we need is for Ozzie to say "Our #2 hitter MUST take pitches" and take out his whips to force our #2 hitter to take those pitches. When Uribe lays off pitches...he gets ahead of the count sometimes, and then when he does swing while ahead in the count, the balls travel far. He hasn't been patient enough thus far in his career, especially early last year. Hopefully, having Scotty on base will be enough to force him to be patient. He holds back on his swing just a little bit and he turns into a monster.
  11. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 06:38 PM) http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._loves_it_here/ Trading away Marte already? Is Theo actually VAFan in disguise? Actually that deal would make a lot of sense...Marte simply isn't as good as the BoSox fans have advertised (he's not Wade Boggs, at least not yet), and they have both Lowell and Youkilis in front of him, so if they can get a quality player for this year by trading him, that may be a smart move. They have enough money that they can sacrifice prospects to try to win every year and just assume that more people will come along with time. I think it makes sense for Cleveland too, because not only will Boone not be there forever at that price, but Marte will probably put up better numbers than Boone did last year. If I'm Cleveland I try to get a little bit more out of Boston if I can since they're obviously desperate for a CF, but that makes sense as a deal from both sides.
  12. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) I know here in the Birmingham area, home sales have slowed considerably in the past few months. I know these aren't the busiest times of the year, but I think it is a sign that an adjustment in the market is coming. How soon and how bad it will be is the million dollar question. I've had a feeling for a while that a correction was due, especially out here. The question is whether the correction will be a slow-down in the increase in housing prices or a decline. I get the feeling that given the "Interest-only" and 40 year mortgages that have appeared in this low-interest housing market...if there's a small decline in prices, it will rapidly be magnified into a big decline due to people on interest-only plans trying to sell to recoup dollars as things drop. But then again, I've had that feeling for a while and it hasn't happened yet...so who knows.
  13. QUOTE(G&T @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 06:36 PM) Yes. I don't agree with it necessarily but it seems to be what happens. It makes sense to me...the gains built up in recent months were created on the premise of increased profits in the near future. If those profits don't appear on schedule...the gains in recent months are not justified. The good part for investors is that most trends, IMO, tend to go too far - i.e. maybe they overpredicted gains this quarter, so if you were smart and sold at the end of December you made a ton, and if you're taking our shorts now, then you stand to make a lot based on the excessively high predictions.
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Wow, if Uribe can handle the 2 slot, our offense is argubly the best in the league. I think Gooch is capable of .290, 20-25 HR'S, 90+ RBI. Spring training is actually gonna be interesting this year. All year last year I said that on paper our offense was better than it seemed. It finally showed up in the playoffs. This year...on paper, with Thome, Konerko, and Dye at the heart of that order...if people play up to their potential...and if people stay healthy....we will be top 5, probably top 3. But that is a lot of "If"s. Thome's health is an if. Pods has to stay healthy (He could steal 80+ if he was healthy last year.) Uribe has to avoid backsliding. Ditto Crede. B.A. has to be adequate. Dye has to stay healthy. Iguchi has to justify dropping him out of the 2 hole when he was doing so well hitting the ball to the right side. Etc. If Thome, Konerko, and Dye stay healthy all season (which at least Konerko and Thome should since they'll get extra rest thanks to each other), our offense will be significantly better than last year's even if some poeple perform worse. But we really have a shot to hammer some people if everything comes together again.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) I think they're overachieving right now. Like you said, outside of Kobe and Odom this is an nbdl type roster. Kobe's not gonna keep up this current pace he's on. However, I'll give them credit for what they've been able to accomplish to this point. I still pick Larry Brown for "idiot" of the year. The Pistons make him look dumber every week. The Lakers were actually doing all right last year too..until Kobe got hurt in January and missed a couple weeks. By the time he was back, Rudy T was gone, and the team was in shambles and had basically quit. With that $10 million a year deal Brown signed...I doubt he cares if you think he's an idiot. Get enough popularity with that opinion...and he'll buy you off.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) No media outlet hits the exact middle, neutral point. You know, given how many media outlets are out there, I wouldnt' be surprised if one actually did...problem is, since I have no idea where the exact middle, neutral point is myself, it's difficult to say for certain which one it is.
  17. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) We still do have that option for Iguchi's 3rd year. I can't imagine us not retaining him if he has another year like last. For the price of his option year...I think his leg would have to fall off for us to not pick it up.
  18. I think this is more funny than informative, but I had to post it somewhere, cause I just can't stop laughing. Jayson Stark, talking about the Phillies trying to find a #1 starter.
  19. Is it just me, or does anyone else here think Uribe will be surprisingly good if he's focusing on hitting the ball to the right side and getting extra fastballs because of Pods? As always, he just will need to take a few pitches too.
  20. Well, interesting day for the Stock Market players around here, that's for sure. On bad earnings news from a couple companies, following poor earnings news yesterday from a couple companies, following some major hits in the overseas stock markets (Japan) in the last few days, and along with oil shooting back towards $70, the DJIA dropped 213 points today, it's Biggest 1 day drop since before the Mission in Iraq was Accomplished. Google slid 8.5% today, it's worst day since becoming a public company, on the heels of a bad earnings report from Yahoo and the news that the government was trying to get its hands on Google's search info.
  21. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) The Sox need to work it out, because if we don't, where do you think he'll end up in 2007 and beyond? My bet would be the Yankees. It would take an absolute, gigantic miracle for Jose to want to go back there.
  22. Pete Rose can get his face in the Hall of Fame right after Shoeless Joe does.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 12:18 PM) Hit a google news search on Cisneros. It has been reported by a few different reputable groups now. I remembered seeing LA Times at the top of the list when I checked. Here's the LAT piece by the way. It's listed as 14 hours ago...so it may well have been in my morning paper or may be there tomorrow (was in a bit of a rush this morning so i did a lot of glancing @ stuff)
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) -I don't get what it matters what they would do about it, all I said was I thought it was important enough that it merited some serious media attention, and didn't understand why it hadn't. I don't see what potential court actions in the future have to do with what is being reported now? Are you saying that a scandal shouldn't be front page news if you can't drag someone to court immediately for it? I don't understand what you point was on any of that stuff. -How much "stuff" should it take to make headlines when the President of the USA is being accused of Obstruction of Justice again? So far everytime I have seen any accusation of President impropriety it has made headlines. Why would that be different today. Hell Nixons tapes of him blathering on at the White House were front page news 30 years later, yet this is buried on blogs and websites for days. Ok, let me put it this way...a lot of things get buried in blogs. Furthermore, there are a lot of accusations made against people in power. Not all of them have actual teeth. By my question "where are the charges" I'm quite literally asking to see some proof, beyond the fact that Clinton's lawyers worked to prevent its release, that this report is not just some fantasy created by a person with a vendetta against the Clintons. Charges of obstruction of justice and tax evasion are serious f***ing charges. If there's any teeth at all to these charges, then at the very least, a grand jury should have been convened to hear the evidence and consider indictments. If no grand jury was ever convened, then why should I believe a word that is said in the report, if even the authors of it didn't feel it was solid enough to at least take it to a grand jury and try to do something with the evidence?
  25. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) Still waiting for someone to give a good reason why Williams&Connolly filed so many briefs to keep the full report from the public? So they could bill the Clintons for more hours?
