  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) Juanito in the 2 slot??? http://www.suntimes.com/output/sports/cst-spt-sox02.html I don't think it's out of the question...in 2004 Uribe got more than 1/2 of his at bats in the 2 hole and he hit .285. Yeah, last season he was terrible with the bat most of the year...because he was flying open on balls and striking out or popping up a lot. Those things are correctable...if Greg Walker does his job (I was singing Walker's praises in 2004 for his work with Uribe. He needs to do some more of that. Or Balta will be very very angry). Here's an interesting factoid...Juan Uribe only went to a 3-0 count 4 times in 2004.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) I'd actually argue that it is harder on Jenks than it is on Anderson. Anderson has 8 other guys in the line up to hide in, and two other OFers to help him out. When Jenks is on the mound, odds are the game rests on every pitch he throws, pretty much everytime he is out there. I am just making the point that teams do what they need to do to fill their holes, and balance their spending. For a team like the Sox, that means they need a few cheap guys to balance out their big money contracts. There is nothing wrong with Brian Anderson or whoever getting a chance on a defending World Champion team, as they Sox have the entire rest of the line up as veterans, and an incredible pitching staff as well. it isn't like we are pulling a Florida Marlins and pulling the plug after winning a WS.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) You want to explain last years starting pitching contracts to me then? The Yankees needed starting pitching. There, it's explained.
  4. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Fish these guys then. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/spli...2&type=batting3 Edit.. It says they were going from 2002-2004 but it was actually 2003-2005... Ok, what I'm trying to figure out about that one is how exactly Thome could have put up exactly the same numbers "Total" and "As a Left Handed Batter", including 96 home runs as a left handed batter...but also put up a "0" in "Runs scored as a left handed batter." Overall AB R H Total 1279 234 333 As LHB 1279 0 333
  5. Not trying to pick a fight here...only trying to understand the new rules...why does this get a thread instead of being posted in the "Politics" thread?
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:24 AM) Last year it was starting pitchers. Now the market's gone crazy for relief pitchers. And the White Sox probably have something to do with that. Teams saw the success we were having a good bullpen, and getting someone like Hermanson who had closer experience to a good deal, that would be below market price right now. That won't be happening again. That, plus you can look up and down the list and see teams that wound up being in much worse shape last year because of their bullpens, and it reads like a "Who's who" of baseball teams. The Braves, the Red Sox, the Yankees.
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 07:00 AM) Apparently thsi isn't over. THe Rangers are back in it. THey should just let him go I don't know about that...any time you can make something more expensive for the Yankees it helps you in the long run (ARod), and Farnsworth might very well be a good fit in Texas. Herschiser is still there as the pitching coach, and he might very well be good enough to keep Farnsworth's pitching under control.
  8. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) I'm still trying to figure out how a guy who is basically a walking muscle plans to lose 40 lbs. Is he planning on dropping muscle? How? Do I really need to answer this question?
  9. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) Shocking news of the morning...an ESPN analyst who isn't stroking the Indians! From an ESPN.com chat with Rob Neyer: Just thought I'd share. A few days ago, Neyer also said that if the Sox resigned Konerko, he'd probably have to jump them to the top of that division in his rankings next year, if Thome can start the season healthy. I think that the trade for a potential 40-50 home run guy to hit next to PK just might have caught the attention of a few of the guys in Bristol. And I still think that Brandon's going to catch their attention even more next year.
  10. Woo-hoo, I get to be the first to say "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report." Along with Family Guy, the Simpsons, and 24. Oh crap, TDS starts in 7 minutes. Better get home.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Ozzie has no clue what's going on right now. "McCarthy should be a starter," said Guillen, referring to the ideal situation for the young right-hander. "But I don't know exactly what we are going to do." If Brandon McCarthy starts the season in the bullpen....I cannot be held responsible for my actions.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) B4 being a smartass have you ever heard of Travis Hafner ..... and he cant play 1st at all complete butcher. I like my way of saying that better.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) I think Furcal and his agent did backflips when the Dodgers took a public interest, I still think he signs with the Cubs, but it's going to be for a good chunk of $$$ This piece sure makes it sound like he wants to return to the Braves.
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Well there is this "new' position that was introduced called DH. Pronk.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) This is defintely something I don't want to hear. I shiver at the thought of having to deal with Frank as many as 19 games a year. I'd still give him a standing O every time he came to the plate.
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) I think its really high time for BMAC to get a full season in as a starter. Duque is too fragile to start the whole season and having him as long relief would be awesome. If he's not happy with that role then thanks for bailing us out that one game but its time to take your services elsewhere. ^^^^^^^^ The BMac who pitched against Boston and Texas could win the Cy Young award next year, if he keeps that up for a whole season.
  17. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) To quote Hawk, "WHERE WOULD HE PLAY?!?" Besides, I think the Cubs are okay with Derrek Lee at first base. I think Derek Lee may very well be wearing pinstripes at the start of 2007, but that doesn't affect whether or not they'd want Frankt his year. I still say Frank simply cannot play the field.
  18. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) Wow, so every time I fart, there's a woman out there farting three times? Global Warming.
  19. QUOTE(juddling @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) Britney Spears new son, Sean Preston, is to play the baby Jesus in his very own nativity scene this Christmas. [/color]
  20. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) That'd be something. Anyone hitting a ball to left-center would wet themselves with joy. More so than with Damon/Ramirez?
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) If Jon Garland had hit the open market this season, he would have been looking at a 6 or 7 year deal, with at least $10 million a year, probably more (maybe way more). The guy is a workhorse at the very least. I'm sorry, but a 6-7 year deal? Even AJ Burnett isn't trying to wing a 7 year deal. I can only think of 1 pitcher who's even managed to pull that off in history - Kevin Brown. Even Tim Hudson's contract Extension with the Braves was only a 4 year plan.
  22. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) By the end of this season he will be the ace of this staff at 27. This topic has been beaten to death here. That's one Hell of a staff to be the "Ace" of. I count 4 potential ones next year...maybe 5 if Freddy has an amazing year. Thank God for that too.
  23. QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) IF frank played for the Cubs, I'd f***ing vomit Frank Thomas will not play for any national league team. Bank on that. If he does, it's as a pinch hitter only, and hell the White Sox could use him for that as easily as anyone else. He hurt himself originally while fielding a ground ball from Juan Pierre. It's insanity to think that he could ever play the field again.
