  1. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 06:46 AM) A ton of money flying around and just think the Yanks haven't really done anything..... I think the Yankees are quite literally looking to save a little bit of money up this year...they're dropping a couple of big contracts in Williams and Kevin Brown, and they've got a couple young guys they've plugged into their lineup with Cano and Wang. They have a hole in CF still to fill...but other than that, I think they're saving their cash for 06 when the Lee's become FA, and there's a much better FA Crop.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) Rick Hahn (sp?) had a quote on the Score that said they would take the money and spend it on other players, which might be a no brainer, but it's good to hear. What other players? There's really no other option available at all this year for PK's money, and aside from 1b, we don't really have any obvious places in our lineup to put someone. Are we gonna remove Podsednik now? Dye? Uribe? Crede? And who's available to fill those slots? After 2006, yeah there's a good free agent crop, probably led by the Lee's, but seriously...who is out there this year who could provide anything close to what we'd be losing by letting PK walk? Furthermore, how in the name of Hell would we expect to be able to beat the Angels next year if they run both Vlad and PK at you?
  3. Here's my sole point on this matter. If we lose the guy without whom we would not have won the world series...it should be because some other team offered him an insane amount of money - a B.J. Ryan type contract, which no one in their right mind would match. I'm taking something ridiculous like $75 million or more over 5 years or a 6-7 year guaranteed deal or something like that. There is no reason why we should not be willing to keep PK at the price the Angels and O's have reportedly offered. Those contracts are expensive yes, but they aren't so shockingly expensive that you'd laugh at the team signing him. The guy has back to back 40 home run seasons and was our best run producer last year by far. He fills a direct need in our lineup. He fits in there perfectly, even more so with Thome (who can give him an occcasional day off.) PK and Thome in the middle of that lineup solves virtually all of hte problems our offense had last year - lack of a lefty power bat, OBP, etc. Cleveland is improving every year. Minnesota keeps bringing up young pitching. The Yankees and Red Sox were both down last year, and Vlad the Impaler may have been hurt during the playoffs. Every one of those teams could perform a lot better next year just with the cards they already have. If we let PK go for that kind of money, we are begging to finish 2nd or 3rd in the AL Central.
  4. Ozzie Guillen needs a couple more rings as a manger and about a 10 year tenure in order to qualify himself for the HOF. His numbers as a player don't do it. It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Very good. And Pete Rose's name should not appear in the HOF until after Shoeless Joe's name gets put in there.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) Now, history is nice, but the reason I would do it is you don't want them coming in flat to their playoff games. It worked for Philly last year. If there's any team which I would not expect to "Come in flat" it's a team led by Peyton Manning. Edit: Oh yeah, and Garland wasn't that flat in the playoffs for us either (Thanks Jon!)
  6. Ok...I think that the whole "Steroid hearings" making Congressmen look good may have just been taken about 1 step too far. Or maybe 7 steps. Or something like that.
  7. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) It's nice to see the NFL trying to connect to the next generation of potential football fans. I mean, c'mon, no matter how they sound, it's time to find an act that'll actually sell cross-generations. The Stones aren't revered by the kids as maybe a U2 would be. And I'm no fan of U2. They had U2 in 2002, right after 9/11. And you have to admit, if any band works playing in front of a list of 9/11 casualties, it's U2. And sadly, they can't just book U2 every year.
  8. At some point, people in sports are going to start realizing that causing your team to self destruct over your contract is not the best thing for your wallet.
  9. I understand why it's being debated...the Colts have a chance to do something that has happened exactly 1 time in NFL History. That's a chance that doesn't come around every day. I don't know what I'd do if I were in the Colts' situation. I mean, obviously Manning shouldnt' take a snap against Arizona...the big question is how much you try to win that Chargers game.
  10. Plasticman? He's still in the league?!

    Prison Break

A couple years ago...South Park did an "April Fools" joke episode...they were supposed to reveal who Cartman's father was, and then when the episode was supposed to air, it opened with an "April Fools...that episode will not be seen tonight" and they aired a different episode instead. The fan reaction was so angry that they had to rush to finish up the Cartman's father episode to air it the next week. That's about how I felt after last night's "Ending".
  12. Of course, that number 10,000 is actually half of the military's last estimate of the total number of constantly active insurgents in Iraq, and that estimate was made nearly a year ago...and that doesn't include those many folks who give aid to the insurgents or who support their actions or who are willing to endorse violence against the Americans to get them to leave (like the Iraqi government for example.)
  13. Pete Rose should be on the HOF Ballot as soon as Shoeless Joe gets on there.
  14. Here is the LAT piece on the Angels' PK Offer. PK Earned that 5th year in the playoffs. If we don't beat that there's something wrong with us.
  15. I think the only good explanation for why the Angels seem to be silent is that they have to be seriously spending time on Manny. They have so many other holes that they need to fill and the money to fill them that I find it quite surprising that they're still quiet. Hopefully the fact that they're being quiet will give KW the time he needs to get something done with PK. One thing about the Angels...when they write deals with people, the deals they write seem like smart deals at the time, unlike some of the stuff we've seen lately. Even the Finley deal, which blew up in their faces, looked good at the time it was written. I don't see the Angels giving Konerko an obscene deal, because I don't see the Angels giving anyone an "Obscene" deal. They seem like they know what they're doing. And furthermore, they still have youth on the way up which can play 1b, and plugging in a young guy there would help them free up money to spend on other spots. They did it with Percival, Glaus, etc, I find it hard to imagine them doing the exact opposite with PK.
  16. The Angels also need a catcher unless they want the backup Molina to fill that role...and probably an upgrade at DH after last year.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) On a different note, on the Sox WS DVD anderson screams like a little girl when PODS hits the Walk off HR. He sounds like puberty has not quite hit, makes for some good comedy. Also, since he recognized that PODS's shot was a goner off the bat, and it took A-row about 5 seconds, shows that Anderson is better at judging hits than A-row. I saw that clip that night and have been quoting it ever since. Replayed it like a dozen times...their reactions are just absolutely freaking classic. BA with the "OH MY GOD!", Rowand responds with "No way, No, No Way" and then the ball lands.
  18. QUOTE(The Bones @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) I think they moved it to Atlanta. My favorite suggestion so far is the Manute Bowl. I'm glad someone got it.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) Not true. if that had been offered it would be in one of the papers here or on the radio. I've been amazed at how little talk there seems to have been regarding Konerko out here, or any FA's for that matter.
  20. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) no i never said i wanted him in Center Field but it wouldn't be the worse thing. Well, see, that probably depends on how you define the "worst thing". If the worst thing is some sort of nuclear holocaust, or having to watch Gigli, then yeah, it's not the worst thing.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) Let's please take a moment at realize that this is the exception Getting caught?
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) http://media.putfile.com/Family-Guy---Stew...em-and-50-cen92 I haven't seen that in 2 years...thanks sir!
  23. The thing that really pissed me off about Ordonez was that I felt like he was lying to me. Magglio Ordonez said repeatedly that he wanted to stay with the White Sox throughout 2004. However, when the time came that the Sox could actually have made a decision on him...he refused to give the Sox any access to him. Ordonez refused to be examined or work out for anyone until after the arbitration deadline had come and gone. Since he would have made around $14 million in 05 had he gone to arbitration, the Sox couldn't have possibly offered him arbitration without at least getting a look at his knee. It was that moment that he proved to me he was lying to me every other time he said he wanted to come back - that meant he didn't even want to receive an offer from the Sox, even if it turned out to be the best offer he got.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) The link you just gave us has completely different numbers then you're seeing. How in the world can that be?
