  1. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) Name Min FG 3Pt FT Off Reb Ast TO Stl Blk PF Pts Curry 19 4-7 0-0 5-12 2 4 0 1 0 1 0 13 At the half. And notably...he's still alive.
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) If we stand pat, we get passed. Next year will be different then this year. Well, no matter what happens, we're not totally standing pat...we have a new 5th starter, and almost certainly a new DH until July.
  3. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) no but green berets hit bloop singles in the clutch and when they play first base it makes me laugh out loud And costs us ballgames. Which makes me swear.
  4. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) i love timo. sign him back! God, please no more at bats for Timo. Those could be so much more valuable. Ditto the roster spot. In the hands of Anderson.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) I agree, I was just saying that there are still some rumors out there. I think Carrol was called in for questioning in this situation because of the unique steroid that was used by Lawton. I can't see how anyone would be "disappointed" in this though. I can see how some people would be disappointed...they wanted another name as big as Palmeiro. I for one, am massively, hugely, relieved.
  6. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) Four fouls and four turnovers in less than four minutes. I thought we got rid of Eddy Curry???
  7. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) why do academics have to hate? i cant stand them I'm just going to sit here in my chair in an academic building and pray that you're not genuinely being serious, and that you realize the irony in that statement.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) Well, if it makes you feel any better, since Lawton didn't appeal this, there's still some talk that this isn't the player that was in question. I just can't believe that the rumor would have been that close to true and it turns out to not have been it. I mean, the guy this whole thread was based on backtracked on his statements the next day, and then it turned out that an AL Outfielder with a playoff team (his words, I believe) was caught juicing. That's pretty damn close.
  9. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) If KW liked the team chemistry in 2005, what makes you think he'll mess with it in 2006 by trading away a Rowand, Uribe or Crede? I'll stand by my prediction that no sox regular will be traded. That's not "Xbox" thinking--it's "why mess with a good thing?" I believe this was the thinking that got the Angels into trouble in 2003. Not to say it won't work for us, but something to think about. As long as we add a #3 hitter, preferably (IMO) one wearing #35, we'll have upgraded.
  10. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) Hermanson had back problems. Crede had back issues. When Hermanson's back really went down, he was like 1-2 saves behind Rivera and his ERA was closing on big Mo's. Where would the Yankees have been last year if Rivera suddenly couldn't close for the month of September? We had plenty of injuries. But we overcame them.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) This doesn't make sense anymore. Agreed. But since I just saw it...it looks damn funny.

    QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Only on Soxtalk can a topic go from getting high to the half-life of different uranium atoms.... That's what I love about this place Actually, I think that happens surprisingly often on this Campus as well.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) Am I the only one who thinks the Bulls take a step back this year and miss the playoffs with about 35 wins? No, you're certainly not the only one who thinks they could. I think they "could" be even worse than that. But then again, I also think they "could" exceed their win total from last year and get another nice playoff birth. This is a season that is going to hang 95% on Scott Skiles's coaching abilities. He's got to get more consistent play from Gordon overall and better defense, a performance from Deng that shows he's developing into the player he can be, some offense out of Tyson Chandler, some more consistency from Hinrich, and some quality offense out of those guys from the Knicks, especially that Sweetney guy. He's got a long road ahead of him. He earned that contract he got last year. He's got to do even better this year, I think.
  14. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) All these pipedreams for Ryan Howard. Gillick won't let him go. Book it. Thome would be the guy they would be looking to move. See, here's the story with Philly: There are only a limited number of possible options for them. The best possible circumstance for them would be to move Ryan Howard for a very high level player/prospects, and have Thome come back healthy. In this case, they pay Thome's contract, but they get his performance out of it, and they get the benefit of whatever Howard could bring them in a trade. The next best option is to trade Thome and stick with Howard. This option has less risk than sticking with Thome, because the odds are they'll get years of service out of Howard. In order to trade Thome though, it's going to either cost them a ton of money or they're going to have to take very little in return, and more likely it'll be a combination of both. Thome is such a question mark for them right now that he simply isn't worth a ton to other teams. Their next option is to stick with Thome next year, have him split playing time with Howard, and just hope that Thome can raise his trade value. This may be the safest option all around, but it also hurts the team, because 1 of the 2 spends time on the bench, they still pay Thome's salary, and they don't get any benefits from anything they could get in a trade this offseason. Their worst option is for them to Trade Howard and Thome to be unable to play. They still get whatever they get for the Howard deal, but they lose out at 1b. Personally, if I'm in Gillick's chair right now, I start listening to offers for Howard and check in regularly with the doctors for Thome. I'm barely going to get 3 scraps of paper if I try to move Thome without picking up 80% of his contract. But if I can get a quality offer for Howard, and I can get some confidence in Thome coming back, it might very well be worth the risk.
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Matt Lawton
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) That's exactly what I was getting at. We will need to try hard to re-sign Buehrle in 2008 so he doesn't go to the Cardinals. Cutting salary from our outfield will be the best place to free up money since we have good outfield prospects. I wouldn't mind at all if we made a full court press to lock up Buehrle at least a year before his last option year with us. Hopefully, a couple of rings, a comfortable situation, and a good friend of his on the pitching staff will give him some extra motivation to stay, if we're willing to pay him. Which we damn well better be. If it came down even to Konerko vs. Buehrle for dollars, I pick Mark.
  17. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) With more veteran players (especially our rotation) getting raises every year, we will have to subtract payroll in some areas. And aside from Konerko, the 2 most important players on our roster right now that we need to make sure do not depart in the next few years are Garland and Buehrle.
  18. Wait a second...he said he didn't appeal it, then why did it take it so long to come out? We heard this rumor a full week ago.
  19. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) oh... im a retard Thought he was on cubs I believe he was, for a time.
  20. QUOTE(mike12345 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) Nomar possibly?? he doesnt fill the outfield void, but he would be relatively cheap. Aw Hell no. A guy who's cheap because he's more likely to get hurt than Thomas, and who'd end up taking a spot from Uribe/Crede, and who's a serious defensive downgrade from either of them?
  21. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) So why don't we try and trade Owens/Young/Sweeney with Marte.. We know what we have in Rowand, who IMO is going to get better. We have no idea what we have in the other 3. We are trying to win again, Azi IMO is about 2-3 years away Rowand D was a hugh part of our win this year. But...Rowand would cost more than any of the other 3...we'd be able to keep any of the other 3 around longer, and the other 3 all have the potential to be better than what we've seen from Rowand. And I don't even know yet what we have in Rowand...the .310 hitter from 2004 or the .270 hitter from 05?
  22. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Don't forget that Gload was b****ing in September. We learned with Jon Rauch that things can be swept away for while but not forgotten. Bench players griping is however as common as the game is old. Might not be a big deal So was Marte. So was Iguchi for that matter. What was Gload complaining about? I didn't hear about that one.
  23. QUOTE(mike12345 @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Ok...well what one player would you think would help improve our team. I know we won the World Series and all, but there is always room for improvement. I would like us to add a corner outfield-3rd base type player. Named?
