  1. QUOTE(soxfan72 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Q: What do you call Cub fans that are now jumping on the White Sox band wagon? Konerko's salary.
  2. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) yes, but if i ever hear the BUZZING again it will be too soon. Not only that, but having never given a damn about a game at Enron/Minute Maid, I never realized how poorly it was designed. The homerun tape doing zig zags on a concrete wall, a porch in left field jutting out that creates a wall for outfielders to run into, and of course, the pointless hill/pole in centerfield. What stupid ideas these were, huh? I don't think I mind the flagpole any more than the roof at the twinkie dome, or any of the other wierd walls. But come on...you cannot have a ball bounce off a wall and be a home run in 1 spot, then bounce off a wall 2 feet to the left and be a double. It should have to stick somewhere or clear something. That's just a bit ridiculous.
  3. Thanks for the most confusing ride I've ever been on. (I was hoping you'd make this a thread.) As the 4th person to pile in...I've had a lot of people sit on my lap...but it's been damn worth it. I think we lost what, 5 games since we piled in? 2 in detroit, 1 against Minny (Santana v. BMac), and the 1 vs. LAA. That van was just unstoppable.
  4. You know what, I don't care who has it. If Paulie has it, if Frank has it, if Ozzie has it, if JR has it, if Crede has it, if Bobby has it, if Blum has it, if Buehrle has it, if Kenny has it...I don't care. You know why? Because no matter who has it, the right person has it. As long as someone has it such that the team knows where it ended up...then the right person has it. (In other words...as long as no Astro fan has it, and it's in the pocket of someone who was doused in champagne last night (or willie harris)), you can't go wrong).
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) My sister just came over and surprised me with the World Series Champs shirt and she has a hook-up for the official lockerrrom championship hat which I will be getting tommorrow. She is a Cub fan and I love gloating in front of her and making me buy s***. BIG SMILE! For me it's particularly useful in that the family is in NW Indiana and I'm in California, and they can buy things and ship them roughly 3 weeks faster than MLB.com.
  6. Parents are buying me the official hat and shirt as a pre-birthday present. I'm going for at least a hoodie, a DVD, a long sleeved t shirt, and a regular season hat (mine's 14 years old and I got enough luck out of it this season to last a lifetime. It's going on the shelf, only to be admired and broken out come playoff time). I'm also going to wait 2 weeks and see if they sign Paulie, cause then I can slap his jersey into a bulk order.
  7. QUOTE(kevin57 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) I didn't see Jenks either. I think they said Bobby went past in the group along with A.J. when about a dozen cars went by in under a minute. If you can catch the video of them coming out of the plane...Bobby has a pimp-ass off-white suit on. It's classic.
  8. Here's one for you. It's not even a play...but it was my first moment of absolute terror followed by incredible immediate relief of this year. Mark Buehrle in Spring Training hears a pop in his foot. Goes home and takes a nap. Wakes up. Can't walk. Newspapers the next day say he's got a stress fracture in his foot. Won't play for something like 1-2 months. Later that day, he walks into the trainer's office. The trainer is shocked that he can walk. No one has a f***ing clue what the hell happened to his foot. They blame it on some sort of older injury that Mark has no clue what they're talking about. Buehrle misses 1 Spring Training start because of it. And pitches on opening day.
  9. Bonnie Tyler...Holding out for a hero...aka the Rally Crede song.
  10. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) That's a very surprising coincidence to me. Here's the full list, btw.
  11. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) Unless youre driving a Prius or a Hyundai or a Metro, you aren't getting 40 miles to the gallon... Most cars get between 20-25. If you're driving a small car and you know how to drive it (i.e. taking your foot off the gas a ways before you get to a stop sign, not flooring it every time you restart) you can get it over 30 without the Hybrid system. Something like a Civic, Aveo, etc. You want to get above 40, either you need a really small car or the hybrid system. And again, it'll probably depend some on how you drive it.
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) Don't forget the winner of the ASG gets home field... do you want game one back at US Cellular next year? Which is why we need Santana and Rivera pitching the whole game.
  13. I loved how most of the Astros came back out after game 4 to give props to their fans, even while the White Sox were off tearing the place apart. Even though they were down, they still had class. Not sure I liked the way Garner behaved this series, but that's another matter for another day (when Ozzie seems like the sane one...well...) I can't say I'd complain if we ended up beating them in the world series for the next 5 or 6 years. (Hey wait, that didn't come out right...) One thing that struck me about this series...when you look at the list of Baseball payrolls for 2005...2 spots simply have to stand out: 12 Houston Astros $76,779,000 13 Chicago White Sox $75,178,000
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Well the BBTN crew was happy with the series. Reynolds said that the first 2 games of the World Series had the loudest crowds he's ever heard. Even more electric than the Yankees. BBTN was saying nothing but great things about us. I'm sorry, but if you couldn't watch 4 extremely close, extremely hard fought games in a row and not enjoy the baseball you're watching, there's something really freaking wrong with you. I enjoyed watching the Red Sox/Yankees series last year. Why? Because games 4, 5, and 6 were absolutely incredible ballgames to watch. Game 7 was pretty much over early. This series was every single bit as hard fought as those last 4 games of the ALCS, if not more so. I can still remember collapsing backwards onto the floor after Buehrle got that popup in game 3.
  15. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) That's a good idea. Just in case Sizemore loses a ball in the lights, Hunter will be there to catch it. Dude, I've seen some funny stuff written today...that's the hardest I've laughed yet.
  16. God I love Buehrle...just taunting the media. Sweet!
  17. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) I say, leave all our guys at home and play a double infield of Morneau and Broussard at 1st, Martinez and Mauer at C, Hunter and Sizemore in CF, etc. Don't forget, some of our guys get nice bonuses for making the AS Team.
  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) I don't know. I think Ozzie will take a couple of players who he thinks won't get the recognition but deserve to go, but probably won't play them much, especially if we're in contention for the division again. Santana will pitch Innings 1-8. Rivera gets the 9th. (We do want Home field advantage again, after all)
  19. The single best possible situation possible for the Phillies is that they trade Ryan Howard for another stud prospect at a different position, and Thome returns healthy and puts up another Thome-worthy season. It is however, the riskiest scenario as well. The inbetween scenario for the Phillies is to take whatever they can get for Thome knowing that it will cost them a lot to get rid of him. A slightly worse scenario for the Phillies is to hold onto both of them, play Thome as the most expensive backup in the league, and just hope he turns it back on next year. (Here we'd be thinking Sammy Sosa if he'd stsayed with the Cubs). The worst possible scenario for the Phillies is they Trade Ryan Howard for someone, maybe who ends up disappointing, and Thome never returns to form and is constantly hurt until he retires.
  20. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) Simple, 10 years ago, it was Tyson. He was trying to literally kill you in the ring and had the ability to do it. And if he couldn't kill you, he'd try to eat you.
  21. QUOTE(Nokona @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) The Chicago White Sox messed with Texas. I think Chicago might be bigger. Went down the highway Broke the limit, we hit the town Went through to Texas, yeah Texas And we had some fun
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Is this going to be on TV for some reason? I know it probably won't be, but I'm in MA and I can't watch the local coverage. Do you get superstation WGN? I figure that's my only hope. Either that or trying to stream NBC5 again...see the "Plane has landed" thread for a link to them.
  23. Parade is scheduled to start at 10 Central...with them getting to the rally point downtown sometime around 11:30.
  24. Naturally, the NBC5 feed dies the exact second Ozzie steps out of his limo.
  25. Ok, the replay footage of the guys coming down off the plane did bring a tear to my eye. Wow.
