  1. Data against Clifford is also pretty sparse Biggio 1/4 Berkman 1/2 Lamb 1/2 Bagwell 1/2 Ausmus 0/1
  2. Hermanson seems to have been killed by a bunch of these Stros in the past. Bagwell...10/25 with 2 HR Biggio, 9/23 with 1 HR Ausmus, 4/12 Berkman, 4/8 with 2 HR
  3. Houston's batters have hardly ever seen Buehrle, Garland, or Contreras. 13 total at bats for their team against Garland, 5 against Buehrle, 1 against Contreras. Freddy Garcia has held their players to a .188 overall. Berkman is 2/3 off of Garcia Lamb is 5/17 off Garcia Ausmus is 1/12 off Garcia Orlando Palmerio is 2/19 off Garcia Biggio and Bagwell are both 1/4 off him
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) Pods: -Vs Clemens - 5-14 -Vs Oswalt - 6-23 w/ 2SBs (that's a lot for a baserunner vs Pettite, especially considering how he's only been on base 7 times against him) This year Ausmus threw out 18 of 57 batters trying to steal against him...a .316 clip. Bengie Molina had thrown runners out at a .313 clip. On the other hand...Yadier Molina...just for reference...threw out base stealers at a .641 clip.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) Not so much. In fact, he's going to be on 60 minutes this weekend saying he was "stupid" about his gambling.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) Well I think Sweeney could use 2 more years in the minors while if they keep up the current rate that they are on Owens and Young should make a case for the team in 2007. Which, conveniently, is the year that Jermaine Dye's contract will only have a team option for.
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) I believe Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Orioles have or will hire Mazzone. No link as this was from a message board Merry X-Mas. Here's Rosenthal's story. The Braves are absolutely f***ing insane if they let him go. They should offer him his own damn island.
  8. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) What happens if a player comes up lame during the playoffs - can he be replaced by someone else (i.e. El Duque pitches for a couple of innings and his shoulder tightens up). No. Once a series starts, you cannot put a person on the DL and replace him during a series. You are stuck with your 25 man roster for that entire series. The only time a player can be replaced is between series.
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:39 PM) This is sort of funny. The 2002 Memo for William J. Haynes II, General Counsel, Department of Defense made it very clear that the interpretation of the administration was going to be that Geneva doesn't apply to El Quaida OR the Taliban. But apparently the Geneva Convention does hold sway over what soldiers can do to the bodies of these combatants after they have been killed?!? Am I the only one who thinks that is somewhat bizzare? Actually, according to Ari Fleischer in 2003, that's no longer the case. Direct quote: The White House did refuse to grant Taliban detainees POW status, but the standing order of the White House was that the Taliban was to be treated following the rules of Geneva...or at least that's what we've been told.
  10. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) I hate to shoot this down before it takes of the ground, but I was talking to my wife and she insists that if the VP stepped down you cant just name a replacement. The VP would be the Speaker of the House. It's the line of succession. Although, this is the Bush administration and they have "modified" the rules several times before. WOuldnt suprise me if they tried it again, That's the line of succession for the Presidency. If the VP resigns...there's no one necessarily in like to replace him. If both the Pres and VP are gone, the President of the Senate doesnt' just immediately become the VP. The President is the only one who would be replaced by that method. Directly from the 25th Amendment:
  11. Most likely the Count versus the Rocket. Go get em Jose. If you can do that to Boston and LAA, you can do twice that to Houston.
  12. Well...if we manage to beat a team with Clemens, Oswalt, and Pettitte, no one will be able to say we didn't earn it.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) I refuse to put my marker on my house. Too many people around here who might want me out of the picture. I know where you live and I've seen where you sleep and I swear to everything holy that your parents will cry when they see what I've done to you!
  14. I'm just going to post this for now and let you guys comment on it. You can probably guess how I feel about it if the report is true.
  15. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) I also thought McCarthy should've been on the roster instead of Vizcaino. Everyone was making it out to be McCarthy vs. El Duque and I was clueless as to why Vizcaino got a free pass. I would say that it's because the circumstances of coming in as a starter and as a reliever are so different that sometimes it behooves you to have the relief pitcher. Viz can warm up in less than half an inning, because he does it on a regular basis. You get to inning 12, and that's a big benefit. Normally, a starter will have lots of different steps they take to stretch out and warm up...normal tosses, long toss, etc. You just can't do all that in the bullpen. At some point, you like having the guys out there who are used to it...they're less likely to come into the game and feel wrong because they didn't get their usual routine. He can also throw 2+ innings, which does remove some of the need for BMac in a long role, especially with El Duque on the team. I'm not sure leaving BMac off is the right call myself, but that's some of the logic behind it. And much like the whole Gload/Blum debate...if it comes down to it where BMac vs. Vizcaino is the deciding factor in winning the world series...a ton of other things have gone wrong.
  16. A: How did you feel about Contreras before the All-Star Break? I thought that if he stopped walking people he'd be unbeatable, but that he'd never find his control B: Do you think the Sox will view Contreras as a valuable part of the team after the season is over? Absolutely C: Do you think Contreras will be trade bait after the season is over? No. D: Do you want Contreras to be trade bait after the season? If the right offer comes along...yes. We have 1 year on his contract. If we can get an all-star starting quality bat for him...absolutely (Ryan Howard?). If he has a year next year to rival the 2nd half this year...there's not a chance in Hell we'll be able to afford him unless he gives us a huge discount (If Burnett can get $10+ million, this guy could get 1.5 times that much) If he has a year next year where in we could actually afford to sign him, his potential trade value would have declined significantly. E: Do you feel that Contreras could sustain this type of success, or do you think Cooper has caught the proverbial "Lightning in a bottle"? I think there's no reason why he can't sustain it...but as with all pitchers, that doesn't mean he will. Injuries can always crop up. His control coulud slip. F: Did you think that Contreras was worth his contract when he was acquired? Yes, but only because the Yanks also gave us $$. G: Do you think that Contreras is worth his contract now? Sweet mother of all that is good and pure YES.
  17. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) it just looks like a big gripe report to me. Of course it is...problem is, we have people on capital hill who will listen to these people about how primetime TV is corrupting and destroying our children, and then they'll convince the FCC to levee multi-million dollar fines because of it, and then those of us who thoroughly enjoy that programming may very well lose it entirely because some parents don't watch what TV channels their kids flip to.
  18. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Maybe they are just looking at shows that run in the primetime slot, which is considered prime family viewing time. They dont want to discern which show is actually a family show or TV14, they just want to tell everyone that it is a bad show. 9 p.m. on the East and west coasts is family viewing time? I'm pretty sure that's even when Nickelodian (Spelling?) switches to Nick at Nite prorgramming...because it's not prime family viewing time.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) not used to everyone in long pants, weird October Baseball...get used to it man!
  20. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Soxfest.. I think for Paulie that actually makes sense, if the delivery date was about a week from now or so. Late January - late October? Any MD's here that know better how they come up with those dates? Doesnt' really work for the Rally Baby or for AJ.
  21. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) • Sleeveless shirts. • Shorts. Somehow, I just can't get past the fact that a league which plays its games in sleeveless shirts and shorts won't let people wear sleeveless shirts and shorts to its functions. Think about MLB banning baseball hats outside of the field of play.
  22. Seth MacFarlane has known for quite a while that as soon as they got back on the air they were going to face an onslaught. He's been saying for a couple years now that the censorship environment has been getting worse and worse, particularly with all of the super bowl related B.S. And also, I'm not sure how exactly they come up with the idea that Family Guy is marketed as a family show. The ads run during other prime time programming or during things like football...the show is overloaded with disclaimers, and i can't think of really any ads for the thing that woudl suggest that it's a show to watch with the whole family. Maybe they're just reading the name and not thinking any more than that?
  23. According to Newsday, Mazzone has broken off talks with the Yankees and indicated he will not coach for them next season. Wonderful news for all of baseball. He's still supposedly considering the Orioles's offer. And My God...the man is only 57? Good lord, that means that the Braves might have another 14 year run in them if they hold onto him.
  24. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) How's about this for a reason to keep Blum on the roster (if we play Houston): he hits .294/.320/.436 in the Juice Box. He played there for two years. He can play all infield positions. Gload, while a good slap hitter, plays 1b and some outfield (yikes). I'm just sayin', if it's HOuston, I want Blum. He hasn't hit for hamburgers in Busch, so things go out the window if we end up playing the Cards. This has been said before, and I'll say it again. If we get into a situation where our only chance of winning rides somehow on the choice between Geoff Blum and Ross Gload...we're really in trouble.
  25. Paulie! Paulie! Paulie! Hit a few over the wall for the kid. Any names yet?
