  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) Ozzie just said, "Hopefully, we keep that leetle monkey in its cage. Everyone hates that leetle monkey."
  2. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Steve Stone talked about this. He said that the guys Garland usually gets out a lot are Figgina and Anderson. If those guys are lacing line drives instead of hitting grounders in the 1st or 2nd inning, Garland most likely doesn't have his good sinker because he's too strong. They were talking about Garland warming up longer before the game to tire him out a bit so his sinker will sink a bit more. I guess we will find out. Anderson is THE hitter who scares me against Garland...entirely because he launched a 3 run shot off him last time he faced him. That was the moment I was convinced Jon wasn't going to win the Cy Young. I changed the channel and didn't watch any more of that game. It's redemption time...b****es!
  3. (Thunder x10) I was caught In the middle of a railroad track (Thunder) And I knew there was no turning back (Thunder) My mind raced And I thought what could I do (Thunder) And I knew There was no help, no help from you (Thunder) Sound of the drums Beatin' in my heart The thunder of guns Tore me apart You've been - thunderstruck Went down the highway Broke the limit, we hit the town Went through to Texas, yeah Texas And we had some fun We met some girls Some dancers who gave a good time Broke all the rules, played all the fools Yeah, yeah, they, they, they blew our minds I was shakin' at the knees Could I come again please? Yeah the ladies were too kind You've been - thunderstruck, thunderstruck Yeah yeah yeah, thunderstruck Oh, thunderstruck Yeah Now we're shaking at the knees Could I come again please? Thunderstruck, thunderstruck Yeah yeah yeah, thunderstruck Thunderstruck, yeah, yeah, yeah Said yeah, it's alright We're doing fine Yeah, it's alright We're doing fine So fine Thunderstruck, yeah, yeah, yeah, Tunderstruck, thunderstruck, thunderstruck Whoa baby, baby, thunderstruck You've been thunderstruck, thunderstruck Thunderstruck, thunderstruck You've been thunderstruck
  4. B. Molina also took a shot off of his leg/foot late in game 1. Scoscia said he wanted to give B. Molina a chance to rest his legs, but he couldn't do without one of his hottest bats.
  5. How touching. Make sure the engines have enough power, Mr. Scott!
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Am I the only one blasting "Thunderstruck" right now? That starts at around 5:00 p.m. Local time.
  7. Any chance someone has a large enough version of the pic with the fog that it could be turned into a wallpaper?
  8. Somehow, I'm not nervous at all about tonight...because I think I've seen Garland step it up enough times this season that I think he'll do exactly the same thing tonight. I think he's just waiting to shut those people up who are complaining about his long rest.
  9. Dang, I was kind of hoping Orel would get that job...I'd really be interested in seeing how he performs as a coach.
  10. I believe Carlisle was also doing a fair share of the work on Bird's staff when he was there...just to toss that out.
  11. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) 1. You obviously are not well educated in history. That topic was discussed at length in another thread & the facts provided by the links are indisputable. NeoDarwinism has led to nearly 200 million murders in the world.Just because we discussed it in another thread doesn't mean that it's not a prime example of a guilt by association fallacy. Christians have been responsible for some of the worst massacres in history as well. The Crusades were run by Christians. Does that therefore imply that Christianity is a murderous ideology? No of course not. That is guilt by association, which is exactly what you're doing. Ad Hominem Attack.. I claim you set up a straw man by stating that mentionning God to a believer in evolution turns them angry, in that you are using an isolated example of your own invention, something which may happen somewhere, to prove a general point. You respond by calling me closed minded. When you say that you hope there will be fewer of another kind of person...that's coming awfully close. While I do conceed your point...it still sounds awfully scary to hear a person say he can't wait until there are fewer of a group with which he disagrees. Again, Ad Hominem. This one fits under the category of the appeal to authority fallacy, in that it does not matter at all how Isaac Newton viewed the progression of science, given that we now view the progression of science in a different fashion. For a more strenuous example...when Kepler released his formulas of planetary motion, he did not perceive them as actually representative of the way the planets move, but as a simpler model by which we could understand the beauty of God's creation. He even took the equations he had formulated and used them to design music based on them. At the time, science, philosophy, music, art, etc., were all basically viewed as part of the same discipline, so Kepler didn't feel he was representing something real, he in fact thought of his model as presenting a more elegant picture of the universe. This is not a way of thinking that anyone in this country today really possesses, as far as I know. We have moved beyond it. Now when a biologist publishes something, they don't immediately think how it would sound as a symphony...because we recognize that there are different methods of thought, and we interpret things in different ways.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Someone paid attention when they covered fallacies in speaking classes.... Actually, Juggs is just reminding me of them as we go along.
  13. Straw man. No one is saying that religious schools shouldn't be allowed, nor is anyone saying that religious schools shouldn't be allowed to discriminate. The only statement in that column is that head start funds, which come from the public and are bound by the rules of government, should not be used in schools which use discriminatory policies.
  14. Let's see...in that last post I see: 1. Guilt by association fallacy. 2. A straw man. 3. I'm pretty sure a threat directed at anyone who believes in evolution. 4. An unsourced statement about how intra-species predation cannot evolve. 5. An admission that any concept of a higher purpose is unscientific, because it is unfalsifiable, and therefore falls outside the realm of any sort of science, which is entirely based on making and testing predictions.
  15. As it says to the left. Pasadena. Currently 3 blocks from the Rose Parade. I'm actually a transplant out here...grew up in Portage, IN (cough cough gasp wheeze cough cough cough cough cough cough wheeze). Out here for Grad school @ Caltech. Geology. Frighteningly, I'm pretty sure my first baseball game ever was a Cubs game. Somehow in 1985 my dad got front row tickets at Wrigley along the 1st base side. While I was there, I reached over the wall to try to get a foul ball but missed the thing, and one of the Cubs players gave me the ball (I was happy.) I'm pretty sure it was Sandberg too. So I basically started off as a Cubs fan, but after say 1989, my dad started taking me to a bunch of Sox games, because they were closer, cheaper, and a better team at the time. That's right about the time I actually started paying attention to baseball anyway...before that I never really did, except for wasting a few afternoons in 89. By the time the new park opened I believe I was a Sox fan. Something tells me Frank Thomas also helped along the way.
  16. Since the patent in question I believe is not actually held by a U.S. company, I would guess very little. Feel free to prove me wrong.
  17. This could be Pax doing a Larry Brown out of Detroit type smear, but somehow I think Pax is a lot better than that. AP Report. New York better keep a very, very close eye on this kid, otherwise they may wind up with a body lying in the middle of their court. This adds to the scariness. That seems like a 2nd occurrence of the problem. About half a year apart. In other words...it may very well have not been a 1 time random thing when Curry suffered the infamous dizziness spell. I wonder if Pax told New York about that spell before he traded Curry.
  18. I believe he's under contract through 06. Read a similar article 2 days ago that said so.
  19. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 07:11 AM) There are two sides to every story, and the 2005 Chicago White Sox are no different. This team has played flat this series, and to be honest, umpires aside, didn't deserve to win either game one or two. Yes, Contreras pitched lights out, as did Buehrle. It still remains this team made countless mental mistakes, and most of all looked embarrassing up at the plate. So what can we say about the Angels approach at the plate, if they managed only a handful of hits off of Mark, and probably only won game 1 because of Jose choosing to go to 2nd instead of throwing home? Like you said, 2 sides to every story.
  20. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) I was making a grilled cheese sammich yesterday and to my amazement, the image that appeared on the toasted bread was surprisingly NOT the Blessed Virgin, but the RALLY CREDE himself. :o P.S. I will be auctioning off said sammich on eBay some time in the near future, so start saving up! I've got a cool 5 figures waiting on it...
  21. There are Jews in the world, there are Buddists, There are Hindus and Mormons and then There are those that follow Mohammad, but I've never been one of them. I'm a Roman Catholic, And have been since before I was born, And the one thing they say about Catholics is They'll take you as soon as you're warm. You don't have to be a six footer, You don't have to have a great brain, You don't have to have any clothes on, You're a Catholic the moment Dad came, because Every sperm is sacred, Every sperm is great, If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate. Every sperm is sacred, Every sperm is great, If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate. Let the heathen spill theirs, On the dusty ground, God shall make them pay for Each sperm that can't be found. Every sperm is wanted, Every sperm is good, Every sperm is needed, In your neighborhood. Hindu, Taoist, Morman, Spill theirs just anywhere, But God loves those who treat their Semen with more care. Every sperm is sacred, Every sperm is great, If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate. Every sperm is sacred, Every sperm is good, Every sperm is needed, In your neighborhood. Every sperm is useful, Every sperm is fine, God needs everybody's, Mine, and mine, and mine. Let the pagans spill theirs, O'er mountain, hill and plain. God shall strike them down for Each sperm that's spilt in vain. Every sperm is sacred, Every sperm is good, Every sperm is needed, In your neighborhood. Every sperm is sacred, Every sperm is great, If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite irate.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2005 -> 06:04 AM) Especially since they are trained to lie to paint America in the worst possible light, such as claiming torture while under arrest etc. Who knows who to believe, but it doesn't surprise me that they are claiming a forgery even if it was true. Juan Cole
  23. "Kids, we're eatin' Dinner tonight! Come on Tiffany, Heather, Cody, Dylan, Dermot, Jordan, Taylor, Brittany, Wesley, Rumer, Scout, Cassidy, Zoe, Chloe, Max, Hunter, Rubella Scabies, Kendall, Caitlin, Noah, Sascha, Morgan, Kyra, Ian, Lauren, Q-bert, Phail"
  24. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) I'd have Contreras start, but I'd also have every starter ready to go in relief and everyone on a really short leash. Not sure I'd like that...the starter most likely to come in would be the guy who would have gone had there been such a thing as game 8...and that would be Mr. Garcia. In other words, it would be Freddy, at home, at night, and coming out of the bullpen (hence...short warmup...first inning.) Ouch. Maybe MB could be ready for a couple of innings.
