  1. QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) It still won't matter. There will be some team that will offer konerko in the 12 million dollar price range per year and the twins cannot get close to that. There's no chance the Twinkies will outbid the Angels for him. We might still be the team with the best shot of doing that.
  2. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Not to get ahead of tonites big game, BUT do you guys think we can 2 out of 3 in Anahiem? Well if we lose tonite- than WE HAVE TO, if we win tonite, than the pressure is on them in game 3. I'm sick of hearing about that West Coast jinx crap. Lets do some West Coast Damage! What do you guys think? We are the best road team in baseball. We can win anywhere except Network Associates/MacAffee/whoever bought that company last.
  3. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) Cabrera = lazy ass 12 year old. Who can hit like a madman. If he ever got his head in the game...
  4. Hmph, I'm not sure if this belongs here, in its own Pale Hose thread, or in it's own SLaP thread. Senator Barack Obama is slated to throw out the first pitch tonight.
  5. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) He'll come back and claim the thread was an experiment to test our attention spans, then claim his theory(whatever it is) was proven correct. And I'll then respond by saying how his post provides yet another piece of evidence of the will of the flying spaghetti monster.
  6. In the howling wind comes a stinging rain See it driving nails Into the souls on the tree of pain From the firefly, A red orange glow See the face of fear Running scared in the valley below Bullet the blue sky Bullet the blue sky Bullet the blue Bullet the blue ...ah...ah... In the locust wind comes a rattle and hum Jacob wrestled the angel And the angel was overcome You plant a demon seed You raise a flower of fire See them burning crosses See the flames higher and higher Bullet the blue sky Bullet the blue sky Bullet the blue ...ah... Bullet the blue ...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah... This guy comes up to me His face red like a rose on a thorn bush Like all the colors of a royal flush And he's peeling off those dollar bills Slappin' 'em down One hundred, two hundred And I can see those fighter planes And I can see those fighter planes Across the mud huts where the children sleep Through the alleys of a quiet city street WE take the staircase to the first floor WE turn the key and slowly unlock the door a man breathes into a saxophone through the walls you hear the city groan Outside it's America Outside it's America Across the field you see the sky ripped open and the rain all through a gaping wound Pounding on the women and children pounding the woman and children Who run.......who run Into the arms... ...of America
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) I thought it was only rest of the pre-season wtf? During the surgery it turned out to be worse than they thought. If I understand right...these things have a habit of being very bad. Chris Webber's leg problem kind of bad. In other words...it may take some real effort for Amare to come back as the same player he was even after he returns.
  8. (Thunder) (x10) I was caught In the middle of a railroad track (Thunder) And I knew there was no turning back (Thunder) My mind raced And I thought what could I do (Thunder) And I knew There was no help, no help from you (Thunder) Sound of the drums Beatin' in my heart The thunder of guns Tore me apart You've been - thunderstruck Went down the highway Broke the limit, we hit the town Went through to Texas, yeah Texas And we had some fun We met some girls Some dancers who gave a good time Broke all the rules, played all the fools Yeah, yeah, they, they, they blew our minds I was shakin' at the knees Could I come again please? Yeah the ladies were too kind You've been - thunderstruck, thunderstruck Yeah yeah yeah, thunderstruck Oh, thunderstruck Yeah Now we're shaking at the knees Could I come again please? Thunderstruck, thunderstruck Yeah yeah yeah, thunderstruck Thunderstruck, yeah, yeah, yeah Said yeah, it's alright We're doing fine Yeah, it's alright We're doing fine So fine Thunderstruck, yeah, yeah, yeah, Tunderstruck, thunderstruck, thunderstruck Whoa baby, baby, thunderstruck You've been thunderstruck, thunderstruck Thunderstruck, thunderstruck You've been thunderstruck
  9. Well Jose....Here's a baseball. Now take that thing and get us to the promised land!
  10. In some places...not truthfully answering a federal prosecutor's questions while under oath is known as perjury.
  11. ARow has also been one of our best clutch hitters this year. I'd ended up have voting for Pods, Dye, or Everett in that category.
  12. I want the Cardinals. I want the 2 best teams in baseball to go at it. That's us and the Cardinals. We already took out the defending champs...we've got a shot now at the other "Best team in the AL"...after that I want the best in the NL.
  13. Man, you go out to buy a microwave, and you miss a chance to bump one of your old threads. Blast!
  14. As long as the proposed class also teaches about the Flying Spaghetti Monster theory of origins, we're all in good shape.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) Am I the only one that doesn't want Bill Mueller? I'll take Mueller, but I'm not under the opinion that he's going to be a huge upgrade from Crede...given that Crede will probably play better defense, is younger, and has more power, while Mueller is older, has seen his numbers decline in the past 2 years, gets hurt more often, has less power, but gets more hits. In my head, those 2 are almost a wash.
  16. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) The real problem as Nuke has eluded to is that the Dems just want to whine. They don't want to do something about it. Our any of them proposing legislation to insure that we have adequate manufacturing capacity of vacines here at home in the future? That's doing something about the problem. That's not just whining about it. The answer to your question "Are (our????) any of them proposing legislation..." is right up there.
  17. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) I see that Christensen and Yan weren't on the 1st round roster for the Angels. I also realize that Escobar was hurt for awhile for the Angels. I wonder if Sciosia will send him out in Game 2. Otherwise, they're screwed. Either one or both of those 2 pitchers will almost certainly be added to the roster today. If Colon's exam says he won't be able to pitch at all...both will be on there, but 1 of those 2 will probably replace Devannon anyway, just because the Angels staff is so worked.
  18. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 03:11 AM) They say this "worse drought in 40 years" is caused by global warming. Maybe so. What caused the one 40 years ago? Again, there's no way to point to any 1 event, such as a hurricane, a drought, a wierd rainy season, etc., and say "This event itself was caused by anthropogenic climate change." However, the global climate change models often predict that a wide variety of the things we see only 1 time a century, whether it's a drought, or 2 category 5 hurricanes, etc. will become more common based on those changes in climate. You get the droughts, the hurricanes, etc. with or without climate change. The question is the frequency of them, the intensity of them, and what it does to the average conditions in the area.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) He did in the alds. He only picked us online. He picked the Red Sox on TV.
  20. These teams are the 2 best teams in the American league for 1 reason: Pitching. The key to this series is our starting pitching going out and doing what they've done all season...pitching better than the other team's starting pitching. That's it. When the Angels beat us...they beat our starters...Jose, Garland, etc. When we won...our starters won it.
  21. QUOTE(Reddy @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) so as far as improving offense... what do you do? we need basically just a DH... and MAYBE a 3B/SS (Furcal would be amazing) but aside from a DH theres nothing we really glaringly NEED is there? 1 problem that has bothered me all year is that our offense really shouldn't be as bad as it has been this year...i mean, take a look at a guy like AJ...his career average coming into this year was something like .290, and he was a .300+ hitter 2 years ago, yet this year he ended up down in the .260 range. Uribe, Rowand, and to some extent Crede all have the ability to be better with the bat than they were this year...if they could just figure out a way to shorten the prolonged slumps that our guys keep falling into. But yeah...a DH, or someone to replace one of our current guys like Konerko, Dye, or Podsednik so that they could move to DH, would be a major upgrade. I also still am holding out hope that #35 might be able to come back strong and healthy next year, even though it may be a slim hope.
  22. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) I think the division is going to boil down to the Sox and Jndjans next year again, with the edge to the Jndjans if they re-sign Millwood. If they don't re-sign Millwood, I think the Sox would have the slight edge. It scares me how good Peralta is. I actually hope he's not a good of hitter as he was this year, for the White Sox's sake. That core of Martinez-Peralta-Sizemore up the middle is awesome. Right now I'd agree with you on it looking like Sox/Indians...but first...there's no reason that the Twinkies can't get back into that mix if Hunter returns and they trade some pitching for a bat...they have enough to spare. But in terms of Sox/Indians...just remember, it does depend a lot on our offseason (do we resign Konerko, is Thomas healthy, etc.), but there's also a very good chance that we could be even better next year than we are this year. Think about this...take the Jose Contreras from the 2nd half this year and give that to us for a full year. Now, take the Brandon McCarthy we saw down the stretch and put him in the rotation the full year. Now, take Bobby Jenks and put him in the closer's spot the full year, with Dustin doing setup duty. Then throw El Duque into a long relief role or trade him or soemthing like that. The way I look at it...our starting rotation next year could shape up to have 4 Cy Young candidates and Freddy Garcia, and that's not a bad setup. Cleveland better be hoping Brandon McCarthy is not as good as he looked this year, because a Buehrle/Contreras/Garland/McCarthy rotation next year is just frightening.
  23. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) A potential problem arises, the administration reacts to it and Democrats whine that not enough is being done. But thats alright though. People take note of who's doing something and who sits there and crys all the time. I don't think this is an attack post aimed at any particular group, but I think it's an informative post that if nothing else could be useful in evaluating whether or not Harkin's words would be warranted. link.
  24. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) Sweet Lou will be in the booth with McCarver and Joe Buck. Thank God...someone to listen 2 other than those 2. McCarver drives me f***ing nuts. Then again...that's why Jesus gave us MLB Gameday Audio.
  25. Does it count if you ordered it and paid for it but for some odd reason MLB is refusing to ship it 2 weeks later?
