  1. What if they gave a counter-protest and no one showed up? The organizers of that rally were expecting 20,000.
  2. Need 1 more detail...when you say you cannot quite cover the bills now with that other job...is there anything you can do to fill in the gaps? Eat into some savings? Something other than putting them on a credit card with a 20% interest rate? 2nd job as a Walmart greeter or something? If all you can do is go into debt and pay stifling interest rates...then whatever else you might earn in the future might just be eaten up in interest payments. If you could do that, i'd go with the first one. But with interest rates going up...right now is not a good time to start going into debt.
  3. Commments from this morning thus far... Ok, so Carolina beats the hell out of the defending champs last week, and they come out and spot Miami 21 points this week? It's 21-17, but man, that team has something missing in their heads if they can't pull themselves together after beating Miami. Donovan McNabb is getting the s*** beaten out of him, although the Eagles are still winning. They're also doing everything without a real kicker. Lotta missed extra points this week.
  4. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) I think Tampa is going to play Cle tough. Tampa has been giving the Angels a series. I think the Angels have won something like 7 in a row.
  5. Again, this may very well be 1 of those cases where the sample size is obscuring the real trend. By saying "September" you include tha t7 game winning streak against Detroit et al. where the offense, and Konerko in particular, was just on fire. But on the other hand...our offense outside of that streak has clearly been struggling, at least until basically yesterday. I wonder what happens if you take just hte last 7 days...although we scored a fairly large number against Cleveland in 2 of the 3 games.
  6. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) They'd have to give Torre a ton of money. When it comes to firing managers...I don't think anything could stop the Stein if he really decided to do it.
  7. Man, I don't even get your guys's game, but 4 INT's for Orton in the first half? Ouch.
  8. Can we take the Indians and convince them to put on hats that say "NY" when they play Tampa Bay?
  9. Playing along also... 1 game does not a big game pitcher make.
  10. Wouldn't it be worth it just to hear how many times Hawk could say the phrase "Sweet Lou"? One of these years also, Steinbrenner is going to just give up and fire Torre. If they miss the playoffs this year...who knows.
  11. Ozzie seriously might be a very good NL manager...just because his biggest problem lately has been leaving his starters in too long. If you have to pinch hit for your starting pitcher in the bottom of the 6th, you can't send him out for the 7th with 105 pitches and Hafner coming up.
  12. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) Does Kansas City even care? They just suck right now. When your hot, every mistake the opponent makes, you capitilize on it. Kinda how we played in the first half. Actually it actually does look like K.C. really does care. Greinke isn't pitching all that bad...he's retired Hafner twice after getting ahead of him, he's made some decent pitches...Victor Martinez just murdered a pitch inside with 2 men on in the first. Cleveland just isn't missing anything right now.
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 11:49 AM) Rowand needs to learn to stop watching the Bears and to learn how to hit again or at least play defense. He misplayed what, 1 ball this week? He just picked the worst possible time to do it.
  14. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Pods, LF ... Iguchi, 2B ... Rowand, CF ... Konerko, 1B ... Dye, RF ... Everett, DH ... AJ, C ... Crede, 3B ... Uribe, SS ... Buehrle, LHP. Good, Ozzie didn't do his silly "All righty" lineup like he did against Santana. Although...will Everett ever sit for complaining?
  15. He stayed healthy. That was the big question coming into this year. Aside from some spider bites...he stayed healthy. Those were the numbers he was going to put up if healthy. Far cry from May...when 1/2 of this board was calling for his head on a platter. Man I'm glad I stuck by the guy.
  16. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) I'm so glad for him, especially after what he went through in the bronx. I just wish there was a way he could pitch next weekend in Cleveland. Something tells me in game 1, and game 5 (if necessary...hopefully not)...you won't mind that he didn't pitch against Cleveland.
  17. Nice blurb on BMac and Elarton Here
  18. QUOTE(Mercy! @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) I was surfing for news when I caught their shot of Ronnie Woo-Woo in his usual Cubs jersey sitting in the stands with a White Sox cap on. This is something that a television station would waste even a second of valuable news time on? Pathetic. Well, According to Morrissey... (yet another person wasting space on him)...at least the guy was leading some cheers.
  19. The entertainment value of this thread for me just keeps growing and growing. Bill Frist is now Facing 2 separate investigations.
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) No, one game doesn't. But my point remains the same: people are very fickle around here. Wouldn't a fickle person immediately turn back and love a guy after 1 good performance?
  21. Just wait until the roar comes up during Thunderstruck a week from Tuesday or Wednesday.
  22. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) You want to be last in league in runs scored :banghead As long as we're also last in runs given up and first in run differential...
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 24, 2005 -> 07:27 AM) Want to know why Contreras has turned into our best pitcher? Because he has a strikeout pitch. When he gets two strikes on the batter, he has a very good chance of a K. He's also able to throw his fastball for a strike at any count. Last night, he did a great job of getting two double plays in what could have turned into big innings. I'd say that he turned into our best pitcher because he stopped the damn walks, if you ask me.
