  1. Buehrle's problem, and Hawk's called this one repeatedly, seems to be that he's tipping his changeup. His mechanics are off. People know when his changeup is coming too soon, and they're hitting both the change and the fastball because of it.
  2. I'm getting more and more worried about the roads north of Houston. They still seem jam-packed and that thing will be ashore soon. The current track would take it North of Houston, which is exactly where all those cars are sitting. If people can't get turned around and off the highways, those roads could turn into graveyards.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:51 AM) I just saw this on CNBC. These people have no luck whatsoever. I wonder how far back this sets back the recovery in NO? At least weeks. The Corps said they were expecting some levee damage, but they weren't expecting them to start giving way this early. NOLA's 9th ward was completely pumped dry already after Katrina. It was protected by the levees that just gave out. Several feet of water already...probably more soon.
  4. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) I asked in the game thread but it was passed up. Who is the last pitcher with lets say 20 or more games started to have more wins than walks? Didn't David Wells have a season like that with the Yankees? My 2nd guess would be Radke.
  5. Update, from the AP: In other words...simply following the current Senate Ethics rules would not necessarily prevent Frist from having been involved in an insider trading deal.
  6. Maddux got win #13 today after shutting down the Brewers for 8 innings. He has 2 starts left to get to 15.
  7. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) Hogwash. im sorry however Jones has carried this team through all those injuries. He has 50 HR and has finally had the big breakout season everybody thought he would have. Furcal was non existant in the before the All Star Break. Chipper was injured. Just because his BA is lower doesn't mean he isn't as deserving. How healthy have the Cardinals been this year? Reggie Sanders? Larry Walker? Scott Rolen? Yadier Molina? All were down for extended periods of time, but the Cardinals suffered basically no loss in quality. Imagine the White Sox losing Dye, Pierzynski, um, uh, and 2 other people who we have absolutely no equal for. I actually think I'd lean towards Jones anyway, but just saying that Jones carried that team through injuries doesn't do it. Plus, it's not like he didn't have help...take a look at the numbers of some of those rookies Atlanta has been playing.
  8. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) Oh darn, he's done for the rest of the year. Isn't that a good thing for the BoSox? Sadly, with the way their bullpen has performed...no.
  9. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Sign up Karl Malone!!!! Realistically this team is gonna be the team to beat in the East. We've already seen in recent memory how a well coached team, playing as a team, can beat a team full of stars. They're the team to beat, but they're by no means unbeatable.
  10. They spent like 2 innings bashing the "All righty" lineup. I was quite impressed. And Hawk talked about how much damage the Walks did in the Indians series, and how they failed repeatedly to score when given RISP.
  11. I'm just disappointed that the kid went out there and absolutely dominated yet another team, and we couldn't get him a win, yet again. This kid may very well win 20 next year. Wow. Brandon was absolutely amazing.
  12. QUOTE(HeGone! @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Well, I really hope that BMac is lights out the rest of the way and gets that job in the postseason rotation. If he pitches well, I don't think there's really any reason to start El Duque over McCarthy. Please BMac, pitch well the rest of the way so we don't have to worry about this s*** that Herdandez has been showing us of late Again, for him to end up in the postseason rotation, if there ends up being such a thing, that means he'd have to replace Buehrle, Garland, Garcia, or Contreras, since almost every team uses a 4 man rotation in the playoffs with the 5th starter going into a long relief role. Who would you take out of the rotation?
  13. The Glove is rejoining Shaq. Gary Payton will be playing in Miami next season. Wow, that team is either going to be so volatile it'll explode or it'll be quite impressive. I'm still amazed how there are a couple teams right now that are trying to do what the Lakers tried 2 years ago - star power to the Nth degree. The Heat are trying, it sure seems like the Spurs are making an effort, etc. It didn't work very well when the Lakers tried it - they ran into an actual team.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) it's possible Everett may bat lefty, he's done it before... Frighteningly, Everett has been a much better hitter right handed for most of the year.
  15. Looking in the rearview mirror again...Keith Foulke is out for the season according to ESPN.
  16. Peter Gammons is reporting that Keith Foulke will not pitch again this season. He also is suggesting our former closer is very unhappy in Boston.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) You're going to hear a lot of b****ing from Hawk tonight if this lineup struggles. When. Not if. Santana would have to be seriously off for our lineup to not struggle against him. Our best hope for this game is the kid.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) That's his justification to not play any of the young guys and keep Everett in the lineup. Well, Borchard is on a cold streak, he's down to hitting .750, so...
  19. At least the cars are moving on that road. New NOAA update is out...suggesting possible strengthening.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Righties are hitting .203 against Santana and lefties .260. Looks like Ozzie is applying the same philosophy he uses with his relief pitchers to the line-up now. He's done this at least the last couple times Santana has shut us out. You know...I wonder what righties would be hitting against Santana if you could exlude the White Sox.
  21. Hasn't Ozzie said each of the last 3 days that he wasn't going to play with the lineup?
  22. QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) We raise our payroll to 105 million. We win the world series. Everyone is happy. The White Sox having a higher payroll than the Cubs? Beautiful. That'll be the day.
  23. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) I'm definitely all for dumping Everett... he'd be great as a #7 or maybe #6 in our weak lineup... but #3 or cleanup is ridiculous. He really has no place on our team. I see that a lot of people want to keep either this player or that player, but the reality is we can't keep all these players. Sure individually they're all nice players, but we can't have all #6 hitters. We DO need someone extraordinary and to do that we have to eliminate some of the lovable, BUT very ordinary, players. Carl Everett right now is making $5 million a year that this team cannot afford to spend on him, with the glut of young outfielders we have coming up. Quite seriously...Joe Borchard and Brian Anderson should get chances to be on this team next year. I'm serious about Borchard...I want him to get 1 more shot. Carl Everett is in the way of that, and he'll make 5x as much next year as Borchard and Anderson combined. We need to start getting the young guys we have coming up into these ballgames for a long time and let them grow. It's worked damn well for Cleveland. We have talent on the way up, now s the time to give it a shot.
