  1. Victor Martinez has given up 90 stolen bases this year and has only caught 25 runners trying to steal. That's the 2nd most stolen bases given up in MLB. His .217 Caught stealing ratio is also 2nd worst in MLB. Get movin' boys.
  2. If anyone has ESPN Insider access...Here's 1 chat where the question was asked. I can't access it myself. Link
  3. QUOTE(WinningUgly85 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Don't some schools have satillite or dish network? Like MLB ticket or something like that. Even if you have a satellite dish network and MLB Extra innings...if the game is on WCIU and the Sox broadcast is the one that is carried, people outside the WCIU viewing area will not get the game. Some sort of stupid exclusive contract for games between the Sox and WCIU. I can't figure out why WCIU wouldn't want the ratings from me watching, but it seems that they don't. Thanks for making me realize the game was on WCIU btw, I hadn't looked at my calendar yet. Now I know not to head home until the game was finished (thankfully, MLB radio never gets blacked out other than through technical problems)
  4. I love the ad for "Soylent Green" on DVD.
  5. QUOTE(Iguana @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) Jenks should be there! Next year, my son, he will be. Count on it.
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) He doesnt have a shot for the same reason he wasnt voted into the All-Star game... he isnt a popular player outside of Chicago (but it can be questioned how popular is he in Chicago nowadays too) Just because he doesn't have a shot doesn't mean he shouldn't be on the list. He's had almost as good of a season as any of the other guys there, and if it weren't for the back trouble and Shingo starting off the season as the closer, he'd probably be leading the AL in saves and have a real shot. My money says Rivera wins. Hell, he might very well end up with the Cy Young by Default, just because no one else at the top of the list is pitching well down the stretch.
  7. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) Did anyone find that odd that the first response was a double post? I mean, I found that downright scary.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) Winning is definitely a good thing. IU has a bye this week, but next week's game in Wisconsin next week will be on ESPN2. http://iuhoosiers.collegesports.com/sports.../091905aab.html By the way...did anyone else catch that the IU/Kentucky game was broadcast on ESPN Classic? I couldn't figure that one out, but it was enjoyable to watch it out here.
  9. So, my memory of IU-Wisconsin games is colored by what, if memory serves, was a 58-0 drubbing they gave us a few years ago. I left at halftime to go to the gym, and happily found that most of the machines were open.
  10. So, what you're saying is buy low, sell high, and you'll never take me alive copper!
  11. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) Carl Everett GS AB HR RBI AVG OBP SLG Before Frank 43 158 6 30 .234 .300 .392 With Frank 25 106 8 26 .311 .327 .594 After Frank 46 178 8 26 .230 .305 .382 It's a good point, but just remember 1 thing...correlation does not necessarily prove causation.
  12. Well, at least Ozzie isn't shuffling the lineup around or anything crazy.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) Does crede even have some value? He's a young 3rd baseman with decent power, very good defense, a cheap contract, and a lot of room for improvement if your coaches do their jobs. Yes, he has some value. Could be higher of course (a great postseasonw ould help), but certainly non zero.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) ^^^ They'll let anyone on the radio. :::Insert random Rush Limbaugh joke here:::
  15. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) If Millwood pitches like he did his first 2 starts against us- we don't have a chance tonite. There is no way we shut out the Indians tonite. I expect a 5-4, 4-3 type game. My nerves are starting to kick in now- a little over 3 hours away from the series of the year. Fri. 15 at Cleveland W 7-1 59-29 Garcia (9-3) Sabathia (6-6)
  16. Did anyone else remember that today be National Talk Like a Pirate Day? Arrrrhhh....avast ye scurvy Indians...we'll be sendin you down to Davey Jonse's locker.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 11:52 AM) That and they aren't sure OPEC is going to raise production at all. Even if Opec wanted to raise production, I'm fairly certain they couldn't. They are literally maxed out. The last time Saudi Arabia tried to raise production by releasing more oil, it turned out that the oil they released wasn't the usual Saudi Light, sweet crude, but it was in fact the heavier, sulfur-laden junk that takes forever and costs a fortune to process...in other words, it was the end-of-the-line type stuff. The only spare capacity left anywhere within OPEC is in Iraq, and it keeps being blown apart.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) I think the opening day thread had way over 100 posts before the game started. We still have 5 hours.
  19. Is there a record for most posts in a game thread before the game even starts?
  20. By the way...the policy shift that has brought us this clear diplomatic success was basically word for word the policy on North Korea that John Kerry was advocating, and which the Bush Administration described as "appeasement."
  21. Here's another billion dollars that is going to come out of the pockets of the U.S. taxpayer entirely because no one at all is watching how the money we send to Iraq is being spent.
  22. Right now, the 17th street Levee gap is filled by a bunch of sandbags...so if it gets hit by any wind at all...that city could very well re-flood completely. It also is again on path to hit the exact same sort of waters that turned Katrina into a cat 5. Hopefully...people will have learned to get the Hell out of the way of this one if it stays on its current path. BTW, in order for that storm to make a beeline to Houston, it would have to pass right through Galveston, Texas...the site of the current worst natural disaster in U.S. history in terms of loss of life. http://www.noaa.gov/galveston1900/
  23. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) Do we actually want to give up Contreras? Blalock is a stud and I love him, but Jose's turned into something special this second half. We can't fill his shoes on the FA market. Not next year's FA market. Personally, I'd much rather sign Mueller, and make our usual one trade for Overbay. Would it be too much to ask for the Sox to sign Mueller and Giles, trade for Overbay, and DH Dye? Do not forget 2 things about Jose... 1. He is a free agent after next year. Which means it is entirely possible that if we don't use him as trade bait, he'll disappear and we'll have nothing to show for it. 2. He is also getting up in years. We don't know exactly how old he is (Cuba again), but he has a lot of mileage on that arm. Who is to say that his arm won't finally give out one of these years?
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 19, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) That division could be the worst in football this year. Minny - People are talking about how much they are missing Randy Moss. But what about Scott Linehan? He ran that offense very well, and they just don't look the same. Should be a head coach in the next 2 years if he can get Miami's offense going. Detroit - Well they just flat out SUCKED yesterday. Up the middle on D they got some good parts, on the edges though they need improvement as Hammer had alluded too. And Harrington with 5 picks, well when Kevin Jones only has 22 yards rushing, I guess things are going too well. Green Bay - Defense, defense, defense. If Trent Dilfer can throw well against you in a home game, you know you're in trouble, whether or not you have Brett Favre and Ahman Green. Minny - don't forget losing Matt Birk in the middle of their O-line. You don't have Culpepper take that much of a step backwards unless he's getting extra pressure. Green Bay - don't forget that they're also missing Favre's best receiver.
