  1. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Ha, in all seriousness that will not happen. I will be happy to split with them with how bad our pitching and offense has been. We are 10-3 against Cleveland this season. Last time they saw us...right after the AS break...they limped out of their own ballpark. It can happen.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) With the intensity and momentum the Indians are bringing into the Cell, I don't care what he has to do, Garcia has to come out of the gate with focus and concentration. The last thing we can afford is the Indians to put up a 3 spot in the first inning. El Duque had a chance to prove he was a big game pitcher yesterday. We saw what happened. Freddy Garcia has that same chance tomorrow.
  3. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) the game starts at 7:05, maybe we should change that, just a little detail, but o well Depending of course on your time zone.
  4. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) How many wins do you guys think it will take to win this division with the Tribe's easy ass schedule?? 97,98? Exactly 6 more wins. All of them over Cleveland.
  5. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) Great game, loved the battle of the big men (LeCroy vs. Jenks.) I loved how completely overmatched LeCroy was.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:40 PM) I'll speak for myself, and say that after sitting in the same spot on my couch for the whole game, I needed to stand up, breathe, and get something to eat. Oh come on, it's football day...you mean you weren't sitting there with a bag of chips flipping back and forth between the Sox game and the Patriots/Panthers game? I polished off like 2/3 of that damn bag. And sometime around inning 7 I stopped flipping channels, except during breaks (no ad dollars for those Twins broadcasters)
  7. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Marte is f***in back. You watch him pitch at any time prior to this Minnesota series, and he had no confidence. This series, he had all the confidence in the world. I love it. When Marte throws strikes between 93 to 95 mph...he is virtually unhittable. He threw strikes, with the fastball, 93 to 95. He keeps doing that...and our bullpen will suddenly resume being unbeatable. Especially with that guy behind him hitting 100 tonight. You think Bobby was pumped up? 99, 100, 99.
  8. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Being 3.5 up instead of 2.5 up is HUGE mentally for the Sox this series. Especially winning those two close games late. Especially since we won the games the way we're supposed to win the games...with pitching and defense.
  9. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) This is going to be a really s***ty series for Sox fans. It says something when the Indians fan with 1 post is more respectful than the guy here with 2700 posts.
  10. YES!!!! Exactly what we needed...2/3 from Minnesota on their turf. JOSE CONTRERAS...YOUR TABLE IS READY. DAMASO MARTE...HI, WE'VE MISSED YOU. BOBBY JENKS...well...let me just say "You can't Focking See that!" And 1 more that I think is well deserved today...for Ozzie Guillen...who actually did everything today the way it should have been done - pinch running for Konerko in the 8th, putting in Crede in the 9th just in case, using both Marte and Jenks in the 9th, etc. Well managed game by Ozzie, and since he's taken a lot of heat here lately...he deserves some props too. Cleveland...come and get it. Your run at this division is about to end.
  11. You know...that picture is almost impressive in how amazingly pathetic of a job was done editing it in Microsoft Paint. I mean, wow, can't you even figure out a way to draw straight lines on occasion? Seriously though...I always wonder this...do people from here go around and taunt other people's teams on their pages? I mean, I respect a guy like Benchwarmerjim, our friendly twins fan, because he's polite around here even though none of us can stand his team. Do people from this site handle themselves like him at other pages, or like this example here?
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) Baseball tonight had Jeff "I have a gay mullet" Brantley making a bold prediction, the Indians will win the division. Well, there's a big shocker.
  13. I still think the right decision at the trading deadline was not to make a move...because no matter what happens this season, this team is going to need to get younger in the next few years. Trading away assets like BMac, Jenks, Anderson, etc, would have removed any chance we would have had to get younger. We would have wound up spending the next few years as a .500 team with a bunch of holes that we can't fill, just like the last few years.
  14. Buffalo's defense absolutely shredded the Texans last week. If you thought the Bears offense looked bad, or hell any other offense in the league looked bad, you didn't see what the Bills did to the Texans. They gained something like 120 yards TOTAL. Still, if they have a weakness (until injuries hit), it might be their run defense up the middle...they lost a pro-bowl Nose Tackle in Pat Williams to Free Agency. So if you have a truly great running back...they might be able to exploit that hole. Of course, Takeo Spikes might be sitting right behind it, but still it'd be a prayer. There's no reason not to go with Portis unless you're a huge gambler.
  15. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) He'll be starting in the playoffs if we trade him to Cleveland. Couldn't resist the joke in these desperate times. Unfortunately...all the trade deadlines have come and gone.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) I'll be happy anyway the Sox make the playoffs. Even if they get swept and lose every game 10-0, it's better than not making it at all. I disagree..if this team falls bass-ackwards into the playoffs and then gets its ass handed to it in round 1, the fact that we made the playoffs might work as an excuse for KW not to do any changes to this team that it's starting to become obvious we need to see next year. If this team manages to wind up in the playoffs, I want to see a damn series win. Or at least something competitive. They're close enough to breaking my heart right now, to make it and then just roll over would snap the rest.
  17. Oh, and Welcome to Soxtalk!
  18. No, the 7 game win streak was over well before that lineup switch was made...it was made at the start of the Royals series. The move had to be made...Everett was performing like absolute garbage in the 3 hole. He couldnt' stay there, it was costing us runs. Konerko was still hot when he moved there. In hindsight, yeah you can say the decision has proved to be a mistake...but in all honesty, Konerko's a big league hitter, it shouldn't matter to him at all what spot he's hitting at in the lineup. There's no excuse for his 2/21. Moving up in the order should not put a professional hitter into a slump. 2 weeks ago probably 3/4 of this website was ready to give Konerko every cent he wanted in the offseason. Now his name's being tossed around as one of those that should disappear in the offseason if this team collapses. That's saying something. At least I think we get a draft pick if we offer Konerko arbitration and he leaves.
  19. Oh it will be. Even when the nation doesn't care about y ou...they always take delight in rooting for the underdog, and in watching things that have never happened before. Cleveland is the underdog now...and they've got a shot to do something that has never happened before. On top of that...they have to cover the Indians because the Yankees are behind them for the Wild Card...and that just leads itself to coverage of the Sox collapse.
  20. Well, if you believe the articles in the Trib...it sure sounds like Even Ozzie is resigned to the fact that El Duque isn't going to be starting for us any more. At least, I hope that's what I'm reading in that paper.
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) That definitely wasn't the same thing. We haven't really been considered a top 25 team since Dec/Jan of the 2002-2003 season. I was saying earlier, I'm surprised IU's already getting a ranking that high before they even play a game, but I have no doubts they'll be there or better when it's said and done. I think we have to have doubts as to whether or not they'll be better, just because we haven't seen Mike Davis do anything recently that deserves credit. You can put all the talent in the world on a basketball court, but if you have a coach who's just not fit for the job, they won't succeed. Davis really h asn't done jack squat since he was coaching Bobby Knight's team. The players we've seen him moving around just haven't lived up to what they should be, and people have been leaving/avoiding IU because of it.
  22. Terry Hoeppener is the first new coach for Indiana to win his first 3 games since 1905 or so. Finally...I actually am starting to like the guy IU has coaching for them. Man, tonight would be a fun night to hit up Nick's...if I was on that side of the Mississippi. Hell of a game, IU.
  23. The Cardinals finally popped open the Bubbly after beating the Cubs today.
  24. This is cute...Maddux lost his attempt at win #13 today, so the Cubs are going to move around their pitching staff in order to try to arrange for him to get 1 extra start this year. He has 3 starts left and is sitting on 12 wins.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Good, the Sox deserve it. If they do blow this lead and miss the playoffs, they deserve to be the laughingstock of MLB. Well...I bet the Angels will start really pulling for Cleveland any day...this could make people totally forget 1995.
