  1. If you were El Duque...would you have confidence in your game? He started the year off mainly as a pitcher just grinding it out, without a good ERA, giving up a lot of baserunners, but also winning games. Now, he can't get through 4 innings. The runners he was working around early in the season are scoring. He clearly has lost something, and I think it's a physical loss with him...his pitches are slower than they were even when he first returned from the DL. Podsednik...yeah, there's something wrong there, and again, I think it's injury related too. The guys we have to worry about losing confidence are guys like Konerko, Everett, Uribe, Dye - guys who can get hot enough to carry this team, but who are now not doing the job either.
  2. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) I know this is a bit off topic and hopefully none of us hate El Duque as a person, but this guy has really been a class act this year. It's easy for me to see why Yankee fans really fell in love with this guy. Not being mean here, but being totally serious...do you think in the Offseason the Yankees would give us anything in exchange for him? If we picked up a portion of his contract?
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 04:56 PM) i agree, i would have put Anderson as a DH for Dye cuz hes no good with runners in scoring position. But i heard Anderson is going to need Surgery, could that be why hes not playing or is he still good enough to play for now? Anderson as a DH for Dye? Um...let me count the things wrong with that... 1. When has Dye played DH this season? 2. Why would you want Anderson to DH and not play the outfield with his range? 3. Dye is hitting his season average with RISP....263 .321 .398 .719. 4. Anderson is hitting below .200 thus far this season.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) Thank You! Ur pretty much saying Carl Everett sucks. Ur the first person thats agreed with me. I think its time for some prospects to get a crack at the DH spot at least next year. My candidates would be , Casey Rogowski, Brian Anderson, or Chris Young. Personally...in my crazy head, I wouldn't mind seeing the option not picked up on Everett and Timo shipped off, and in exchange we give Borchard and Anderson their roster spots. That way we at least don't lose Borchard next year, given how much we've invested in him, and we save a ton on paying Everett. Besides, KW will probably trade for Everett mid-season anyway.
  5. QUOTE(Rich McKinney @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) Remember how we slumped when he came back? Like now! I'm wondering how he picked up Konerko's speed all of a sudden. Remember the 7 game winning streak when he came back? He didn't pick up Konerko's speed, but he's still hurting and he's lost a step. He should get the stop sign on the base paths unless we're hitting and running. He's still the fastest guy on our team other than Harris, but he's not healthy enough to be a huge base stealer right now.
  6. El Duque was supposed to be a big game pitcher when he came to us. He was supposed to be a pitcher that could rise to the occasion, especially come playoff time. Today, we needed him to rise to the occasion. Today, we needed him to pitch against a weak hitting team like he was in the playoffs. Today was his chance to show he could still win big games. 3.1 innings. 4 runs. Nearly 100 pitches. He should be in long relief or mop up duty. He can't be a big game pitcher if he can't win a big game.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) There was no point in trying. We can't beat Santana, just ask any player on the Sox. Actually, I beleive that one was Nathan, not Santana. But the point stands.
  8. QUOTE(AirScott @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) not really, they lost, what, their top 4-5 players? Like I said, I'm not disagreeing with anything, I'm just amazed that they lost that much. Wouldn't you be amazed if a championship team suddenly disappeared completely the next year?
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) HAVE YOU LOOKED AT HIS POSTSEASON STATS?!?!!?! Right here, you're talking to one of El Duque's biggest defenders early in the year based on his postseason stats, his "Big game" record. Today, we gave him 1 last shot at a big game. He failed. He's won me over. He shouldn't be starting for this team. Maybe mop up/long relief duty in games that are out of reach or 16 innings long. That's it.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) They are going to love this. Here we go with nightly coverage of the white sox choke. Early in the season, our guys would have seen some negative quote from ESPN, responded with "We don't care" and won 6 of their next 7 games.
  11. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) From the looks of it, I sure am sorry I couldn't watch that game.... Instead I had a very nice time at my daughter's soccer game. Her team lost 2-0, but they tried hard and had fun. She had a few scoring chances, but the goalie was pretty good and made the saves. That sounds suspiciously like a mirror image of our game.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) I AM A "FAN" It's not choking to lose a game to Santana. It is choking to lose 2 of 3 in K.C., or to be swept at home by the Angels. It would be choking to lose 2 of 3 in Minnesota when you need wins.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) If he starts again, then Ozzie Guillen deserves to be fired, and there's going to be a lot of people banned from this site for stating the obvious. Hopefully, as long as no one makes jokes about unnamed ballplayers jumping into bed with unnamed members of the coaching staff...they'll tolerate a fairly extensive amount of criticism if that happens. And man...if it were to happen...this site might mutiny. We might burn down the Cell.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) Something happened with this team in the last few days, and it is reflected in how disgusted some of the White Sox personnel seem to be. DJ, Hawk, and Farmer have been noticeably pissed off about things. I don't think you're going to hear Hawk start to praise Ozzie for his great managing anytime soon. If that Royals series doesnt' make you wake up and smell the coffee...nothing will.
  15. QUOTE(rangercal @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) and if that last foul ball were a grand slam, half this board (probably you too) would be having an orgasm over him right now. :rolly Don't forget the ball that bounced off his glove in right field, which helped lead directly to runs for the Twins.
  16. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) See today's game for definition of ace. Buehrle can shut teams down just as well as Santana did today (albiet, with fewer strikeouts.) He just hasn't done it lately at all.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) Who would have ever guessed that this team would be 4 hit??? I'm eagerly awaiting Ozzie's pathetic quotes of the day. You're completely right...I'm absolutely amazed that we got 4 hits.
  18. Dye misses a home run by a foot, and strikes out on the next pitch. Of course. Nathan strikes out the side. 16 White Sox strikeouts today. Eesh.
  19. 2 strikeouts in a row by Nathan. This tune seems familiar....
  20. Come on ARow...you've been our best clutch hitter this whole year...just a base hit or a walk...try to get the tying run to the plate...
  21. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) is it bad if i want Borchard in?? Nope.
  22. Make him pitch to you Carl...make him give you something you can hit.
  23. Carl...don't try to do too much...we need baserunners...feel free to take a walk if it's given to you.
