  1. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Boy, am I going to miss hearing "That's a goner!" Rooney will catch on somewhere else...hopefully ESPN or Fox. That won't be the last time you hear it.
  2. Woo-hoo, I leave the Room, and Dye starts trying to make up for his fielding last night.
  3. woo-hoo, out of the inning, and the only damage was the highly-expected extra base hit from Sweeney. Hopefully we've gotten his extra-base-hit-against-the-Sox out of his system for the day.
  4. QUOTE(Allsox @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Does anyone know what PK's hitting with runners in scoring position this yr? .238 coming into today.
  5. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) looks like pretty bad weather to be playing in... Good. Our pitching was at its best back in April & May, before the summer really got going.
  6. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) Time for Carl to get on a hot streak, I think he's overdue. Last 2 games he's at least gotten hits. It's a start. He's hit a couple of other balls hard.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) pods is still hurt If you're not right, then something else is seriously wrong with Pods mentally.
  8. Ok Mark, I have to go check on the heating of a 1100 degree, 1000 bar pressure experiment. I want this first inning over by the time I'm back in my chair. Agreed?
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) From what I've found we're 21-13 when Widger starts behind the plate. Not too shabby. Again, when you're catching Mark Buehrle a lot, and Jon Garland a lot, this is to be expected. It's not necessarily a function of the catcher. That's why these stats are hard to interpret - the sample size is so small, that another variable, like catching our 2 best pitchers more often than others, could be biasing the sample.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) With people stranded and dying, the oil slicks are not a high priority. I'm as much of an environmental wacko as they come, and even I can see that. There are groups monitoring the beaches here, looking for signs of oil. This tragedy will ripple out for quite a while longer I fear. I was hoping we were past the stranded and dying stage.
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) 0-4 Three failed attemps to "guide" the ball into RF like a professional hitter and one warning-track power shot to straight away center. Willie is 8-19 since being recalled, if I'm reading all the numbers correctly.
  12. Greenpeace Press Release:
  13. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Oh gosh, I'm sorry. . . Me too...my lungs have never forgiven me for living down wind from the industry in NW Indiana.
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) When is the start time? 1:10 Central Time.
  15. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) I think this new banner will s*** on the Joe Crede banner. There's something about either Timo begging us to win or us begging Timo for the win that I just find so disturbing...
  16. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) Not really. If it's 3, they have to sweep us to force a playoff. If it's 2, then they have to sweep us to win. If they win two of three with that lead, they'd only gain one game and still lose the division. If it's 1 game, they still win with a sweep, they tie and force a playoff if they take two of three, and they obviously lose if they take one or none. So basically, if it's 3 games going in they'd have to win 4 in a row including the playoff, if it's two they have to win 3 in a row. If it's one, then they'd either have to win 3 in a row or 3 of 4 including a playoff. I meant if it's down to 3 by the time we face Cleveland...next Monday.
  17. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Yeah, he's from Texas, shouldn't that read "I gotta take a f***ing piss like a bull before a rodeo!"??? George W. Bush is not "From" Texas. He currently lives in Texas. He is From Connecticut.. I am not "From" California. I live in California, but I was born and raised in Indiana.
  18. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) I'd rather be 5 up than even. I really would rather be 5 up than 5 down. No worries mate. I'm enjoying this little bit of tension in the final weeks. Hopefully just enough to keep everyone sharp and focused. I hate to have to say it...but right now, does this team look "Sharp and focused"?
  19. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) Okay, let's even assume that we lose a game in the standings before then, meaning we'd be up 4 or 4 1/2. We'd still be at 5 or 5 1/2 meaning roughly the same situation would exist. They have to get the lead down to 2 at worst to have a shot at winning the division, and they really need to get it down to 1 before the series, otherwise they have to sweep us. Why are you assuming we will only lose 1 game in the standings...the Indians start a 3 game set with K.C. tomorrow, they'll probably win at least 2, while we get the Twinkies. If we don't step up, we could lose 1 1/2 games in the standings or even more before then. If we go on another losing skid, they could potentially make up 3.5 games by the end of the weekend. That's why today's game is so big.
  20. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) It's conceivable that the last series against Cleveland won't mean anything though. If we still have a 4 game lead or more, then we could play the Birmingham team and it wouldn't matter. If we take 2 of 3 or sweep Cleveland in the series starting this Monday, it would be difficult for Cleveland to have a real shot because we'll probably be up 5 or 6 games. This means they would have to gain 2 or 3 in less than two weeks. Even then, if they cut the lead to 3 they'd have to sweep us just to force a playoff. If they cut it to 2, they'd have to sweep to win or take 2 of 3 to force a playoff. That only counts if our lead is not down to 2 or 3 by the time we meet Cleveland...in other words, we have to get the job done against Minny and K.C. today in order for that to be the case.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) The Angels hit better than us. They do the things we are supposed to do. Colon is also a shutdown type pitcher. The Angels do not hit better than us. They have a higher average, hit more singles and doubles (and triples!) than us, but we have 54 more long balls than them. In terms of total offense, the 2 teams are almost identical - we have scored exactly 7 more runs than them this season. We are 12th in runs scored, they are 13th. Yes, they have the gigantic, awesome, amazing bat of Vlad the Impaler. But they also have even bigger holes with the bats than we do. They have no DH. Their 3rd baseman has been hurt all year. Finley has been a complete bust. And a few of their other people are in their lineup as much for defense as for offense. The LA Press has been just as frustrated with the Angels offense as we have been. There have been at least a baker's dozen articles this year out here in the LA Times thinking "Maybe this is when the Angels bats will wake up" and then they go into another hitting slump. The Angels are a mirror image of us. They score exactly as many runs. They do so with fewer long balls, but they have their runs more concentrated in the lineup than we do. They have great starting pitching and so do we. They have a great end to their bullpen, but their bullpen is not as deep as ours.
  22. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) not sure what the sox record is with the different catchers, but on the kc broadcast last night they said the sox have a 3.15 ERA with the widge behind the plate. the team ERA stands around 3.60, so that says something good about him with a small sample size. This is more than anything else likely an artifact of the fact that Widger has caught Buehrle probably more than anyone else on this staff.
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) The Yankees are one game behind Minny. So if Minny passes us, the Yankess would be right on our tails. Probably. Don't you mean behind those dastardly Indians?
