  1. Just remember this...according to published accounts of Canseco's book, which I have not read, Raffy was using Winstrol specifically because it would help you out as a steroid but would not make your body explode like some of the other steroids were. And before he tested positive, you heard exactly the explanation he would have wanted...that he didn't have the body type of a juicer. A change in body type can just as easily be due to a change in steroid variety as it could be to starting them in the first place.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) I have always been partial to this guy , but any of the following are adequate Yeah, but none of them would be so perfect for mis-use of that cursed word/cursed icon as a smiley getting beaten over the head with a broom.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) We're going to need Marte down the stretch more against teams like the Indians and Twins than we would likely need him in the playoffs. I know Marte has been struggling, but this team needs him. If he's not available, Ozzie has to make better use out of guys like Cotts and Jenks. All I can say in reply is that Cotts/Jenks are fine options if they're used right, but they don't measure up to Marte when he is actually on. When he has things working, he can be as dominant as anyone in our bullpen except Jenks. Trouble is, he hasn't been on for a couple months now. Either he has some sort of mechanincs problem or he's having genuine arm problems, and either one is a concern. If Marte cannot get people out, he will merely take up a useful roster spot, no matter how much Ozzie likes having 2 lefties in the pen.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Can we ban the word "sweep" from soxtalk? What we need is an icon of someone being beaten over the head with the broom...usable when people misuse that word (I ain't saying it) or the broom icon.
  5. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) Dare I say roids? Aaron is known to be a big time in the gym. I wonder if is drop-off is related? Obviously he wouldn't be on the top of list of suspects, but I think as we are learning, it can be anyone. We've had this discussion repeatedly here, and the general consensus has been (in large part due to people who claim insider info, along with the fact he's spent time training with the Hurt) that he never touched the stuff.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 06:44 AM) Kinda like how rapidly reproducing bacteria and uncurable quick-evolving viruses are amazing? Then I agree... Personally, I think he's amazing in the way that embryonic stem cell research or cloning is amazing...a triumph of modern science.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) So Patrick Ramsey's been demoted after 1 game and has demanded a trade. My guess is Miami would be the favorites, although if the Bears could get him for about a 4th rounder............. After Gus Ferotte picked apart the Broncos defense over the weekend?
  8. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) Peter and his crew on Sunday was great! That "Family Guy" movie looks funny as hell. But why on DVD?I think it may make a killing at the box office!I always knew that Stewie was a player, but on Sunday,I didn't know he was "Pimpin'"!!!! They're releasing it to DVD basically as a reward for all of the DVD-buying fans (me included) who quite literally saved the series from the scrap heap due to the shear number of disk's purchased...they actually made Fox realize they could make a lot of money on the show even with poor to average ratings because the DVD's sold so well.
  9. I bet you that if Trotter was playing, the Eagles win that game. The Falcons got so many cheap yards running Dunn right up the middle it wasn't funny. That was how they got in position on almost every one of their drives. They should give Mathis the game ball.
  10. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) Kw's first priority this offseason will be to re-sign Konerko. And give Garland and Peirzynski extentions. He will also have to look for another DH- even if Frank does stay. We can't rely on Frank to stay healthy for a full season, so that being said- can Carl Everett have a similar season? What other DH's will be out there? Isn't Carlos Lee a free agent this offseason? We will also need a new 3B. Sorry Crede fans- but i dont see KW re-signing him. So here is my dream offseason for KW: 1. re-sign Pauly to a solid contract. 2. give Jon G and AJ solid extensions (they deserve it) 3. Figure out DH situation. (can Carl still be productive? will Frank come back? Can Carlos Lee make a southside return as our new DH?) 4. The Joe Crede experiment must end. Any suggestions? 5. Either trade El-duque, or plug him into our bullpen and use him as a spot starter, becase BMac is the next big thing. Our rotation in 2006 should be: Buerhle, Garland, Garcia, Contreras, and BMac. No, Carlos Lee is not a free agent this year. The Brew Crew will have him for 1 more year after this one. A lot of these things depend on the math. A shocking number of them. Garland is due a big pay raise, as is AJ. Keeping them both piles on the cash. Konerko right now is our offense. Between those 3, if we keep them all, that's an additional $10-20 million in salary beyond this year. The good news...we have Frank's contract coming off the books, so that will drop from roughly $8 million to $3.5 million. If Reinsdorf is willing to open the pocketbook a lot, Bill Mueller is available as a more than serviceable replacement for Crede. But given the choice between Mueller and Konerko, AJ, or Garland, there is no choice at all. Aside from that, trading for pieces may become a necessary step. A question for those who know contracts...if the White Sox pick up Everett's option, what are the rules regarding trading him? With a new Free Agent, you cannot trade a signee for a couple months after the season starts, what about picking up an option?
  11. How does this data compare when you stick in the 2nd half of August? By choosing just the month of September, you've selectively avoided the thing that really put us in this situation...that disasterous end of August, and you selectively included a 7 game winning streak. We may be 7-4 in September, but right now, that record does not reflect how we have played over the last 30 days.
  12. Jose...Jose Jose Jose....Jose....Jose...(add in the ol' Valentin tune). Please Jose...we need a savior right now, and Jesus ain't helpin.
  13. God this season is F***ed up... I have to go immediately from cheering for the Twinkies to cheering for the A's. I feel so dirty.
  14. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) What should we do Balta? Shall we exclude firms with expertise in these situations such as Halliburton and Shaw Group because they gave money to Bush? You find someone who's demonstably better and the government will hire them. Personally I'd just prefer we withhold contracts from Halliburton until they can account for the couple hundred million from Iraq that has mysteriously gone missing from their hands.
  15. That ejection could really hand that game to the Falcons...you take both Simon and Trotter out of that Eagles defense...can they still keep Vick corralled?
  16. How the Hell do you get ejected before the game even starts? Wow.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) This is very true. A lot of times when a team drafts a player strickly on his "stuff" they don't turn out to be much. It's when you draft one of those guys in the later rounds and strike paydirt that is so much in the minority. But when you do get one of those guys in the 20 something round and they turn out to be an ace that makes your organization look oh so great. Mark Buehrle...38th round. Brandon McCarthy...17th round.
  18. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) And immediately weaken the depth of one of the best bullpens in the league. Whether Damaso is struggling or not, he's an above average pitcher that has played by the rules for the most part. As far as I know, he's not a clubhouse cancer, and as long as his left arm can still pop it at 94 MPH, it would be foolish to suspend him for the rest of the year. If the Sox need a message, take a look at Carlos Lee. s*** happens, he was late...discipline him and move on. No need to throw gas on the fire. Mmmmmm....sweet sweet rational thinking...(drooling noises)
  19. By the way...the new head of FEMA...he's the duct tape guy.

    AOL?

If you have any computer experience at all, to the point that you know what you're doing without a nursemaid, there's no need for AOL. AOL I think should be best viewed quite literally as internet for people who need internet but don't know how to use it. Also...I could be wrong on this, but I don't think AOL provides their own direct access broadband...like usually you need to pay someone else for broadband, and then you're also paying AOL for access to their content. A few of their things are useful, like the simple scale of the community if you like their chat rooms, but aside from that, there's no reason to spend the extra money on AOL.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) Interesting to note with Brown Not only that, but the hearings on Brownie lasted all of 42 minutes. Of course, had someone actually done anything about it...you'd have heard cries about those evil "Obstructionists" in the Democratic party and how they should give wide latitude to the President's nominees, but you're right that they at least had a shot at him. Overall though...isn't the one "responsible" for Brown the guy who nominated him in the first place?
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) In the no big surprise department... Michael Brown is resigning as FEMA director He finally did a heck of a job with that decision.
  23. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) Roastin Sammy isn't as fun as it used to be since he's no longer a Flub. Actually...um...yeah, it's actually still as much fun.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 07:19 AM) Also I don't know if anyone else saw it or not, but there was something out over the weekend to the effect of Bush didn't know how bad the problems were down there because his aids were all afraid to tell him? Did anyone else see that? That was covered in a Newsweek piece...1 page back in this thread.
  25. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) Yeah...it looks like a riot. It looked like all new footage. Is it? Yes. It is a brand new movie, not a clip show. I already have it pre-ordered. Stewie yelling at his prostitutes last night? Priceless.
