  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) Roid boy grounds out to 2nd. 1 pitch, 1 out.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) Lazy Pop ups. I have seen this before. 2000 Offense in the playoffs. We need a freakin bat, and Timo is not the answer. This whole offense is pressing right now...it's one of those times when 1 guy struggles, 2 guys start pressing to pick them up and end up struggling themselves... We just need to hope we can snap out of it within a few games and it doesn't last too long.
  3. C'Mon Dye, let's see if someone can make an outfielder get the ball this inning.
  4. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) Atta boy Paulie way to start us off! For anyone using this as their play-by-play...he's being sarcastic.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Does he look on or does he look on? Well, according to MLB's gameday, every pitch he threw that was a strike was inside the zone.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) This isn't really going to hurt us. Now they can't retaliate today, they'll have to do it tomorrow. I'd rather have Freddy on the mound if they retaliate than Jose. Jose will hit enough people as it is. Freddy can at least work around baserunners.
  7. woo-hoo, out of the 1st inning without a scrape. 16 pitches by Contreras, 12 for strikes.
  8. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) Because this crew HATES us. I'm not even kidding it's really really obvious. But they did warn Both teams, right? So in theory the Yankee pitcher might worry about pitching inside too? (Not like that crap in Oakland earlier this year where I think they only warned our team not to retaliate)
  9. An Arbitrator ruled today that Kenny Rogers suspension, originally 20 games as handed down by Bud Selig, will be reduced to 13 games. He'll be eligible to pitch tomorrow. Selig = not happy.
  10. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) My worry is, how many of those bats would actually make it to us with Boston/NY picking before us? Neither of those teams needs a bat. They are both fairly desperate for pitching...both starting and relief for the Yankees and relief in particular for the BoSox. If it's someone who'd obviously fill a need for either team they might grab them, but in a lot of cases, there's no good reason for them to make a pickup.
  11. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:20 AM) its kinda early to tell. Sanata won his last year on the strength of his pitching in the second half and same thing with Holliday the year beofre when they should have given it to Estaban Loiza. i think garland will get it if he holds up, but i personally would like to see Mark get it. I'm amazed you didn't spell any of the names of those pitchers correctly. (except Garland of course) On Loaiza, he lost the Cy Young because of 1 game...the team desperately needed a win over the Twins to start a series against them, and Manuel sent Loaiza out with a cold when I believe the rest of the staff was on normal rest because of an off day. Loaiza was shelled. He lost the Cy Young race that day. The Sox were swept by the Twins that series, and we fell apart from that moment on.
  12. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) Should I have used green??? Was that a little too confusing to be taken as sarcasm? Sorry kids...I guess. It could still have been sarcastic and yet illustrated a deeper point. In fact, there are plenty of people out there who believe that to be the ideal next thing for the U.S. to do. I was merely trying to note that even if it were sarcastic...it's still a terrible idea.
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) I think that whiners whining about the whining whiners who whine about the whiners' whining is worst. ....so dizzy.... :puke
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) I thought Willie Hernandez did in something like 1984? You are correct on that one.
  15. QUOTE(Balance @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:08 AM) Hey, there were some pretty bad calls last night, but I don't think that any of those calls affected the ultimate result of the game. The Sox hitters struggled against a very good pitcher in Mussina. Overall, I'm worried about the offense. We need to hit the ball more, give our pitchers some breathing room if a few calls don't go our way. Mussina did not have a very good night last night. He left way too many balls out over the plate...our guys just missed them. From watching the game, I think the biggest culprit was actually Dye...the guy just fouled off so many hittable pitches from Mussina it's not funny. This offense has thrived the whole year on having a couple of people get hot at every time...last night, the guys who had been hot for us lately just didn't do anything (AJ, Iguchi). Hopefully, someone else can pick it up soon. Dye is due for a good run again. Uribe's well overdue.
  16. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) It's gonna be a long night because Contreras is facing his old squad who'll want some payback... It'll only be a long night if he walks a lot of people. I'll guarantee you one of the Yankees will hit a home run, because they have so many damn home run hitters its not even funny. The goal is to make them do it with 1 person on base or less.
  17. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) Bernstein went on a 20 minute rant about the facts that... a. Dmitri Young is going to be waived b. the White Sox will get him take it for what it's worth, please. i'm just the messenger. Well...he did guarantee that his team would be in contention along with Cleveland at the end of the year... In all seriousness though...I'm starting to wonder if any large bats will hit the waiver wire in the next few weeks. That's something that could really help us. On the other hand...how many games in a row can your team hit with a .227 average?
  18. Don't forget 1 thing...the guy who starts game 1 of the ALDS doesn't necessarily end up starting game 1 of the ALCS or the WS. And he doesn't end up pitching the decisive game 5/7 either. Starting game 1 with your best pitcher isn't always the best strategy...think about the Yankees last year against Boston...they threw out their pitchers who were healthy enough to go (Mussina, etc.) in games 1-6, and when game 7 came around, all they had left was Kevin Brown. When they put him out there, they got hammered.
  19. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) The best was Harold's reason for picking Mariano Riviera. He says he won't pick pick either Buehrle or Garland just because the White Sox are in first. He says it should be given to someone on pitching ability. Fine. But then he goes on to say the reason he picks Mariano is because he is winning ball games for the Yanks and keeping them in contention . Because Buehrle and Garland haven't done anything whatsoever to keep the Sox in contention or win ballgames for them.
  20. QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 04:28 AM) Did Thigpen get the Cy Young the year he broke the save record?? Cause if that doesn't get it for him then no closer should get it IMO. I would have to say that demolishing the old save record by what 15 or so?? That is otherworldly wouldnt you say? No, he did not get it that year. Only like 9 relief pitchers have earned it in history...2 in the last 15 years...Gagne and the Eck.
  21. I'm not surprised we landed the #4 and #1 web gems on a game when we were playing the Yankees. People @ ESPN were actually watching! We also had 2 on the list on sunday - ARow and Garland.
  22. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 06:55 AM) The links to Darwinism & mass-murder: Hitler was from a right-wing party...hence all right-wing parties everywhere are throroughly discredited.

    Something tells me this may very well be the last time you get to write about any of those shuttles landing.
