  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Let's hope that's the last fastball we throw to Sexson this series. He's been absolutely on fire lately. In his last 7 games he's been hitting a whopping .158. That's his first HR in that timespan.
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) I feel the same way about Raffy. But Raffy went ahead and shot his ass up(supposedly) anyways. I really wonder if he saw his 1 home run and .247 average in May and decided he needed some help. According to ESPN, since early May he's been hitting 1 home run every 14 at bats, which qualifies as the fastest rate in his career. Giambi had an even worse start to the season...and suddenly has kicked it up over the last 2 months.
  3. I told you guys a few weeks ago that I thought ARow might still get to 20 home runs this year...
  4. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) I would put him ahead of most people as well, except maybe Randi. But we have digressed from the point. IS AAR going broke or not? Also, I have heard them SAY they have MADE PLANS to pay the money back, but not that they HAVE paid the money back. Regardless, I think they suck. And FWIW, I don't think any of the mentioned 'conservative' radio hosts are much better. They have done some fairly dramatic expansion in the past year...pushing themselve sup to nearly 70 markets after starting with less than 10 and rapidly losing Chicago and LA. They couldn't afford to expand into new markets and purchase the station time if they were going bankrupt. They've also given most of their talent new contracts, suggesting that they think they'll be around for a while. According to their emails, they're averaging roughly 3 million listeners per week.
  5. This isn't exactly the same situation, but it's close enough that I figured I'd point it out.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) yeah an That, Barbershop, and Blair Witch have to be one of the most succesful profits made from a film that was made under $15 million in the last 10 years. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was made on a budget of $5 million. Worldwide it grossed about $370 million or so in theaters.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) I just read the Trib's review for the new "Dukes" remake. They gave it one half of one star. The LA Times refused to call it a movie.
  8. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) I never said Imagine was the greatest song, I said John Lennon is the greatest song writer in the world. That was a quote...from another song
  9. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) What on earth are you talking about? He's saying that in 2003, all of the bandwagon fans were becoming Cub fans because the Cubs made a playoff run, while in 2004 they switched over to the Red Sox because the BoSox finally got past the yankees and won themselves.
  10. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) The greatest song writer in the world, and the defending World Series Champions are creepy things to like? This is not the greatest song in the world, this is just a tribute.
  11. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) did anyone else see jose valentin playing left field tonight, and make an awesome catch Yeah that was a pretty good catch by him...slamming into the wall while running. Although...something still strikes me as odd about the whole thing...taking a guy who was our shortstop, starting the season with him at 3rd base, and moving him to LF when he comes back off the DL...yeah.
  12. When a new method of measuring a piece of data is developed and it produces results that are at odds with other estimates of that data...the first thing you should do is check repeatedly to make sure your method is accurate. In every case they tested, they found a pattern of cocaine use 2-3 times the normal estimates. The immediate suggestion here is not that the other estimates are wrong, but that the new measuring technique has some flaw that is not understood. I need to see a lot more evidence before I say that the old estimates are wrong and the new technique is giving a better result. Who's to say that the lab isn't contaminated? Who's to say that the residue from the Cocaine doesn't build up in places in the sediment and get released at variable times? Who's to say something else couldn't be contaminating the measurement either in the lab or in the river itself? If it works it'll be a useful method, but the data there doesn't tell me it works. If anything...I'd consider the fact that it doesn't match current estimates to be an argument that it doesn't work yet.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) 5 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 4BB. In other words, DOMINANT. In all honesty though...coming back 1 week after being nailed in the head by a line drive, 5IP is not terrible.
  14. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) He's been pretty damn awful Hmph, seems you're right...especially after a 2 inning start the other day. Dah well...
  15. Go Get em Freddie! It's your old pal you're pitching against...make sure you show him up!
  16. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) They are still 3rd in the majors in runs, 2nd in OBP, 2nd in homers, and 5th in BA. You kinda want your ace throwing When Ozzie put people in place for pitching the 2nd half, he did so by trying to get Garland and Buehrle facing the Twins, Red Sox, and Yankees as much as he could. After tomorrow, MB's next 3 starts will be Boston, Minnesota, Minnesota (assuming nothing goes wrong). I can't complain with that reasoning...who would have expected Minnesota to completely implode in late July?
  17. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 06:10 AM) Alan Embree? Hideo Nomo? Al Leiter? Shingo Takatsu? Ain't it funny how the Yankees have become the baseball equivalent to Victory Auto Wreckers? "Do you have old, beatup s*** that you're not using? We'll take it!" I'm just hoping it ends up not working. Leiter hasn't been terrible for them yet. Hopefully he will be. Nomo's not even with the big league club.
  18. In all seriousness...our defense has really been hurting us lately...it's to the point that it seems like our defense is almost the only thing costing us games. We lost 1 in Boston on an error. We lost 2 in KC because of defense. We lost a couple of those Oakland games before the break because of errors. I can't remember if errors cost us any games in Detroit. If we can stop some of these stupid errors, we'll find ourselves on another 8 game winning streak. Our pitchers haven't been pitching poorly for the last month, but we've lost quite a few games on balls thrown away or mishandled.
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) These guys have to write something or they won't get paid. Meaningless drivel. I think this guy has something genuinely against the Sox, he's written several pieces bad-mouthing the team this year and he seems to truly hate the Cell. I wonder if he's got some Cubs fan or Twins fan or Indians fan in him.
  20. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 08:50 AM) i wouldnt consider the white sox to be a scary playoff contender to any circumstance Any team that makes the playoffs should be considered a scary playoff contender. Any team that makes the playoffs with good pitching and a good bullpen is particularly scary. That doesn't mean they'll win, but that means you shouldn't take them for granted.
  21. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Playoff experience is overrated. The Angels of 2002 had no playoff experience hardly anywhere. Josh Beckett.
  22. Stealing Verbatim from another post...
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) The more I hear that both sides have problems with him, the more I like him. I've said it a couple times before...John Roberts is not the guy Bush would have picked if he had been looking for a fight. There are plenty of people with much more conservative and open records who he could have picked if he really was gearing up for a fight. Roberts is the definition of a "Stealth Nominee" - he doesn't have a long record as a judge, so there aren't a huge number of statements or rulings on which he can be criticized. While he's certainly going to fit into Bush's camp on most issues, there's enough ambiguity in his work to make him a good nominee. I'm a bit concerned by the fact that the WH again is refusing to release some of his documents, but aside from that I don't see anything in his record that looks too outrageous or crazy, to the point where putting up a major fight against him will earn a nominee who's any better.
