  1. Look at what this team has done in June with 3 or 4 of their best guys on the DL. They've come roaring back into 2nd place and have just been sitting there waiting for the Nats to slump. Andruw Jones has found his swing. Kelly Johnson, Langerhans, other guys who's names I don't know...wow. And now...Tim Hudson came off the DL yesterday and threw 6 shutout innings, and Hampton came off the DL today (although he struggled). And Chipper should be back this week. This team will win that division. Anyone who bets against Bobby Cox is trying to commit suicide. That is all. Btw, something to think about...if you gave Bobby Cox the lineup and pitching staff of the Chicago Cubs...do you think they'd hover around .500 all year? Take a look at their lineup and compare it to the Braves. That says something.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) My head hurts. I really do not understand. :puke This is what happens when all we have is random rumors from random unconfirmed sources. It's hella obnoxious. And It's gonna keep dragging on, because KW isn't a dummy...he's not going to jump into something stupid, and he's not going to do anything without at least seeing what El Duque has left. (I hope) (political joke)In a few days, we're going to hear someone on the Score reporting that the British Government told them Kenny Williams recently sought to acquire significant quantities of uranium from Africa(/political joke)
  3. Let me just say 1 more thing here...if we grab our own version of Kerry Wood, and give him Mark Buehrle's money, and give up great talent to get him...I will never forgive Kenny Williams. Ever.
  4. Re that WHIP list: How was El Duque before he went down with that injury and struggled in the starts around it/inbetween DL stints?
  5. There's also another thing to think about with this mess...he basically said screw you to the organization when KW was still showing interest in him. During the whole season last year we had the debate over how his rehab was going, would he resign, whether or not he had permission to go overseas for that surgery. The one that really got to me however was in December, during the FA period. Magglio's people kept coming out and saying that they were willing to schedule a workout for any team to come and look at his knee, but they refused to do it before the arbitration deadline, thereby making it impossible for the Sox to even offer him arbitration (and get a draft pick). It's not like any team would have considered signing him without looking at his knee, but his people absolutely refused to even give the Sox the chance to evaluate him before they had to give up the option of bringing him back. That told me he didn't want to play with my team any more, and that's the one that hurt.
  6. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) Sweep there asses and then say you left the best team in baseball That's some revenge I think we can all enjoy.
  7. QUOTE(mac9001 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Most teams have figured out all you need to do against Arroyo is stack the lineup with lefties. The man has a OPS agianst around .850 vs. lefties. Arroyo is also a very good young pitcher who will probably keep getting better, and who also already has playoff experience. I'd think Theo would be absolutely mad to trade him for a guy like Burnett, who's 50/50 going to leave as a FA at the end of the year and probably won't end up winning any more games for them than Arroyo would. Then again, I'd be thrilled for them to do that, but that's mainly because I'd love to see the Red Sox do something stupid. ANd I would call picking up Burnett a stupid move.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) I was looking at the box scores from the 2000 ALDS. I think adding a bat might be wise, and I'm with you about adding a closer, moving all the bullpen down a spot. In that 2000 series the Sox scored 7 runs in 3 games. They scored 4 in the first 2 innings of the series, all against Mr. Freddy Garcia. Lee,Thomas,Konerko, and Ordonez combined to go 3-40 in that series. The 2 guys still on the team, Thomas and Konerko were a combined 0-18. The 2000 team was built around power. It was built in a way that if the power didn't appear...and if those 4 guys (and/or Valentin) struggled...we couldn't win. What is this year's team built around? Everything. We're not just a power team, we're a team that plays defense, pitches the hell out of the opposition, has good power, and has the ability to score runs without power. Even if Thomas, Everett, Konerko and Dye all struggle (like they did in May) we can still win by getting good pitching, getting guys on base, moving them over and knocking them in.
  9. The guy called the manager of the best team in baseball his "enemy". The guy turned down the richest contract offer in our team's history to go play an AL Central rival. What else can we say?
  10. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) Farnsworth is a nut job. I sure wouldn't mess with him. Was Affeldt really messing with him? As far as I could tell, Farnsworth was wandering around the outside of the brawl looking for someone to hit, and he laid his eyes on the guy because he was standing out on his own.
  11. QUOTE(Yoda @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) He has that filthy curveball. Made a couple of batters look stupid. BTW, how about Clemens? He came into that game having allowed only 1 earned run all season! That is sick... You've got your stats wrong...he'd allowed 1 earned run on the road all season. He's now allowed 2 on the road. Anywho...if there's someone who's going to challenge Garland for the league lead in wins not named Mark Buehrle, it's probably Carpenter. He's healthy, he's better than anyone realizes, and he just keeps winning. He's got an ERA that I believe is below 1 since May.
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Yeah. I think years of Clinton-era budget cuts and onerous restrictions did most of the damage. I will grant you in hindsight those budgets were a horrific mistake by the Clinton Administration...as were the times they chose not to try to kill Bin Laden. That still doesn't justify this literal attack on the CIA.
  13. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) From the looks of it , it seems Jenks will be the one to go down! Welcome to Soxtalk!
  14. The White Sox magic # is now the same number of games the Sox have won.
  15. Magic # = 61 = number of games won by the White Sox this season. Fascinating.
  16. Jenks will be going back down for El Duque obviously...he hasn't pitched since Oakland. My big question is this; Ross Gload's rehab assignment supposedly ends tomorrow. Can anyone tell me what that means? Is there any way that the team can keep Gload at AAA after his rehab assignment is over? Will we actually be forced to activate him tomorrow? Or can they keep him down without placing him on waivers? Anyone have any details on the exact status of Gload?
  17. 1st 4 game sweep of Cleveland by the Sox since 1963 First 4 game sweep by anyone of the Indians since 97 at Jacobs field 12 games up if Minnesota loses 2nd shutout in 4 games. Starting pitchers' ERA since the AS Break: 1.00. White Sox have 30 wins against the AL Central White Sox have a f***ing 15-2 record ON THE ROAD against the AL Central. Clifford Politte's ERA dropped below 1 today...he's down to 0.96. Career high in home runs for AJ Pierzynski. What more can you ask for?
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) There are enough legal holes to drive a truck through unfortunately. Just as usual, it depends on what your definition of "is" is. Instead the only people who are going to win are going to be the lawyers. And this nation's enemies, who now have an easier time of acquiring WMD's because the CIA was weakened.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) Well, good job by Cotts throwing strikes. Indians sure are hitting a lot of lazy pop-ups. Clevelandpopsitup.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) Who's our righty set-up man tonight? With Hermanson likely unavailable, will Ozzie save Politte for the 9th? I think we'll see Cotts in the 7th, and then have Cliff/Marte hopefully finish off the 8/9th. With a 4 run lead, I wouldn't be surprised to see some of both Viz and/or Jenks. Why is Hermanson unavailable? What'd I miss? He didn't pitch yesterday. Family stuff?
  21. 6 innings of shutout ball for Big Jon...quality start, 0 runs, hard to ask for more from a guy. Let's finish this off and get him #14...and win #30 against the central.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Another potential 3rd strike not called. That pitch was a strike earlier this inning, let alone this game. 102 pitches for Jon...probably his last inning here...Neal's standing it up.
