  1. No Sunday lineup today. Got people rest earlier in the series, and going for the jugular today. Go get em Big Jon. Time for #14!
  2. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) Haha, just clicked on gameday in time to see Boone get rung up by Bart. He sure must be impressing the twinkies. He got his first hit in about 10 AB's with the Twins today...drove in the GW run. But he's still hitting less than .100 since joining them.
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) They're not going anywhere. They've made all their money this season beating up on the real dregs of the AL. Baltimore is gonna fade and I think Boston takes that division this season. The Yankees are still really dangerous, especially in the regular season. Why? 2 reasons. 1, they have pitchers who can still pull their weight in Johnson and Rivera, and occasionally Mussina, Brown, etc. Their staff is hurting, but sometimes all it takes is a stopper. And 2...here's the big one: Jeter ARod Sheffield Matsui Giambi. If all 5 of those guys are hitting anywhere near where they should be...they are going to score a lot of runs, just like us last year. That's enough to keep anyone close. Problem is...well...they're like us last year. They hammer anyone who doesn't have their best stuff, but they can't win a pitcher's duel, and they can't win with defense.
  4. Boone got his first hit and RBI for the Twins today...more than 10 AB's with the team.
  5. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Yes. We keep Curry and Tyson we get better becasue Gordon, Duhon, Luol all gain a year of expierence. Were getting better by staying the same. Assuming none of them hit the "Sophomore slump". We'll keep both if we want to...that's the brilliance of restricted free agents. So either we'll keep both or we'll get something valuable in a sign-and-trade.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) You say playoffs, we say finals down here. Hopefully we can get a big FA like Yao Ming or Amare Stoudemire next off-season, we'll have the cap room to do so. I say highly doubtful...first of all in the CBA it's still almost always worth more money for longer to stay where you are, and 2nd, in addition to Houston and Phoenix, the Lakers and a few other teams will be gunning for a big name guy also.
  7. Johan Santana is falling apart in the 1st inning for the Twins...Given up 3 runs, Angels got 3 hits, 2 errors on the Twins, Wild Pitch, thus far he's thrown 33 pitches and it's still not over.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) I really think if there was anything imminent, Ozzie would have known, and Shingo wouldn't have pitched today. I still say this makes no sense...if a guy's almost about to be traded, you're fine to pitch him unless he's actually already gone. Until a guy is traded there's no reason not to use him. Hell, you might as well get the innings out of a guy if you've still got him.
  9. QUOTE(cubbiesuck13 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 05:36 AM) I hope we stay far, far away from Burnett. He has been in the league as long as K. Wood has (7 years) and hasn't started as many games as the often injured N. Side "Ace" (What do ya'll use for sarcasm). Stats: 763.1- IP--------------1094.0 42-49 -W/L------------70-52 3.80 - ERA-------------3.67 .230 - AVG against----.216 Burnett is on the left. Wood is on the right. If you can't pitch better than Wood then I don't want you. And if I remember right Burnett didn't pitch in the '03 post season so he dosn't even have "post season experience" that we need. Not only is he almost a worse version of Kerry Wood, in the offseason, he's going to get the kind of money that Wood would get if he were available this season...$10 mil a year plus, over 4+ years (he'll probably want 5).
  10. I think Crede's pissing people off more because he should be hitting .270 with 15 home runs, not .240 or whatever he's at. He's a better hitter than anything we've seen from him except for a couple of times since he came up. I'm honestly hoping that his back injury could be a turning point, if it hurts him on a swing to twist his back a lot, maybe it'll force him to stay closed a little more and drive the ball. It wouldnt' be the first time an injury made a guy's swing better.
  11. I saw that too. There is no way Buehrle was throwing at him and everyone knows it. You don't throw at a guy's head. Pitches get away from people sometimes. Kennedy really pissed me off with that one. Buehrle is not a headhunter. They retaliated, and it backfired on them. I hope we can consider the matter closed, and although I don't want to face him, I hope Hafner comes back soon.
  12. Varies from year to year. Used to have a soft spot for the Braves. In 03 started rooting for the Marlins after they ran into the Cubs and then the Yankees. In 04 rooted for the Red Sox just so that people would shut up about Ruth. #1 is always on the South Side though. Far and away.
  13. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Chill out. His trade value wasn't ruined by 2 batters. As desperate as Arizona is for bullpen help...I doubt they'd care. Their bullepn is absolutely awful.
  14. The launch of Discovery has now been delayed indefinately. They have no idea what the problem is with that sensor, and they can't get it fixed. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050716/D8BC7DP80.html
  15. If the Bulls bring back Curry and Chandler and Duhon, or someone of equal skill (no idea who's left), and their top 6 of Curry, Chandler, Deng, Gordon, Hinrich, and Duhon all stay moderately healthy this year (i.e. miss a few games here and there, but no extended stretches) then they will make the playoffs, and if Skiles gets Curry to play some defense and we cut down on the turnovers, we could be up with the Pistons and Heat. On the other hand, if any of those things goes wrong...we could very easily miss them. We're still a young team. We still need a defensive minded guard. We still need Chandler to stay healthy. We need Curry not to keel over and die. We need Deng to stay healty. We need Hinrich's shot to improve. We need to cut down on the turnovers. and so forth.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) I don't see what putting Crede on the DL would do. He said himself that this problem is going to bother him the rest of the year but he's going to try and play through it. Doesn't sound like something that is going to dramatically improve with an extended period of rest. Hell unless the guy is hurt to the point of needing rehab or surgery, I'd like to keep him on the team and let him play 3-4 games a week with Ozuna getting the rest of the duties. He'd even be valuable in games which he didn't start as a late inning defensive replacement for Ozuna. Personally I don't see Crede going to the disabled list. Or a trade going down this weekend or next week for that matter, at least not one of giant proportions. IF Crede can only play 3-4 games a week, we need a backup 3b other than Ozuna.
  17. Black Jack holds what i believe is the club record with 48.
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) Positve thing is we wil see widger. Negative thing we will see timo. Could care either way for me is ozuna. Positive thing is we'll probably see Thomas. AJ's hitting .500 career against Elarton, so there's a chance he'll play again tomorrow. Although...I'd rather have him rested to catch the Cubans...both of them work better when AJ catches than when Widger does.
  19. Man, I leave, figure it's over with the Rain Delay, flip over to ESPN News and suddenly it's a close game. Blasted right handers in the pen! If Arizona's going to overpay for one of those guys, let them have him. Can't be worse than what they're throwing out there. Congrats on getting off of #10 Mark. You'd been stuck on there for too long. Go get #14 tomorrow Jon, and we'll never hear a squeak from these guys in the division again.
  20. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) Cotts under handing that from practically the pitchers mound was pretty weird. Wet ball...no reason to rush the throw and end up having it slip out of your hand.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) Shingo has also really struggled against Cleveland. He's struggled against the Cleveland Lefties (Hafner et al.) Last time he pitched against their righties he did fine.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) Cotts is warming up. It will be interesting if we don't see even a sign of Shingo. It would pretty much confirm all the trade rumors. Shingo could pitch unless he'd already been traded. Probably would want him to anyway...make sure he's still all right.
  23. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) That should be it for Mark since he did start the ASG. Cotts is up.
