  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Well, if guys like Kotsay, Durazo, Hatteburg are out the door by the 31st, Zito probably is too. Zito is still signed through next year...are the other 3?
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) A lot of times. They attacked Kirk and Ben like they were PF's and C's. I think defense is as improtant, and probably more important that size. IF Tyson/Eddy/AD were to stay healthy, than no C/PF need is there. But, at guard, we need a defender who has size and can score. I don't even think I care that much if he can score. If there's someone out there who can defend guards but isn't a good shooter, then we slap him in next to Gordon or Hinrich & keep Curry in the ballgame. We need someone to put on a guy like Dwayne Wade or Rip Hamilton who can just slow them down.
  3. Is there any source other than Rosenthal? Especially with trade rumors...I don't like to listen until it actually happens. Especially if people would consider it a downgrade THIS YEAR on a team currently at the top of their division.
  4. Love them, because I can't pay to keep Buehrle around...and enough of them working together could. And no matter what they tell themselves...they know in the back of their mind that they're bandwagoners, and I know in the back of mine that I've sat here and watched collapse after collapse...just waiting for us to be the team at the top, while they haven't.
  5. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) He and Rove should share be sharing a cell some time soon if there was any justice. And a shower.
  6. I bet this interview took about 45 seconds...and Mark never shook off a question.
  7. I believe Santana hasn't won a game in a month.
  8. Both Drudge and Raw Story are now running with Rehnquist officially having resigned (Raw story being from the left and about 2 steps above Drudge in credibility)
  9. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:06 PM) If Zito is on the block, like Bob Nightengale wrote the A's are listening to offers, getting him locked up for 1 1/2 yrs at a reasonable price sounds like the best deal out there. IIRC, he's done very well vs the Angels and Twins in his career. I don't know who else in the AL would qualify as the best available SP. For my money, it's Zito Here's the key phrase..."Reasonable price." Right now, you can figure that the Yankees, Orioles, White Sox, Red Sox, Braves?, Cardinals, Dodgers, Padres, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Indians, Twins, and Rangers could all be served in a playoff race by acquiring another starting pitcher. Right now, K.C., Tampa Bay, Seattle, and Pittsburgh have guys they might be willing to move because they're completely out of it. Aside from that, almost every other team either has nothing people would really want or is close enough to the wild card that they wouldn't want to trade yet unless they got an offer they couldn't refuse. That includes Oakland. Asking Oakland to Trade Zito now is asking them to say that the run they've been on since Crosby came back is entirely a fluke. That's a hard thing for any team to say, because it'll cost them on the bottom line; if there's no hope, people don't come to the park.
  10. You know...I just thought of something. The press reports on this bombing keep saying that the bombs were probably about 10 pounds each, and were made up of high explosives. Where exactly in this world would a terrorist get their hands on high explosives? Military style demolition stuff?
  11. QUOTE(OilCan @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) All right, since I started this mess....mind as well finish it. I'm probably the only White Sox fan who would love to see Joey B back. And promptly tear the baseball off its cover. If he hits over 25 HRs, 70-80 RBIs and Ks a ton w/a .230 or .240 BA, that's OK with me. I just hate to see a player who seems to finally "get it" (the proverbial light finally clicking on in his head) and succeed with the Pale Hose. Just plug him in the 7 to 9 spot in the batting order and see what he can do. I just hope he does get a 2nd chance. I'd love to see Borchard get another shot also, but here's what I've seen from him; His swing will just suddenly go bad. It will usually happen when he's brought up from AAA. He will get killed by major league hitters. He will then be sent back down, where he will promptly struggle for at least 1 month, if not more, before finding his swing again and getting his average back up. He will then come back up to the big league squad, where the cycle will repeat itself. With his kind of power, he's a valuable bat if he can hit .260 or more. But at .240 or lower, with his number of strikeouts...he'll probably hurt the team more than he helps it. Remember, with any big power guy, a lot of the power numbers come in games that are already out of reach and off of weaker pitchers. The question in value terms is whether or not the guy can do some damage against the better pitchers and in big games, and if he's only hitting .230 or so, I doubt he will.
  12. Walker is starting to get more love from me... Dye came out of his slump Konerko came out of his slump Crede came out of his slump Uribe...well...hopefully someday... My test for Walker is keeping these guys hitting above the .270 mark for the rest of the year and avoiding another prolongued slump from those 3. Also...we need to get Arow's head back in the game. And Pierzynski also, although I like how A.J. has looked at the plate recently, and he's had terrible luck all year.
  13. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton. Because Clapton f***ing rocks. Actually Clapton himself isn't a bad idea, although somehow I don't think Tears in Heaven Fits... Layla however would work very well
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) Not now if Hughes signs with the Cavs. Wizards have no resemblance of a post game with their big men, and they'll struggle to make the playoffs next season because the East is pretty close b/w those 5-12 spots. Now that they don't have to pay Hughes, does that leave the Wiz cap space to go after another big man (Ilgauskas/Curry/Chandler?) They also have Kwame Brown who is still at least something of an asset that can be used in a sign and trade...there are probably still teams who would be willing to give him a shot.
  15. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) From today's Jerry Crasnick's chat on ESPN.com On a side note... Jason Schmidt will be starting tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals. You know...every time his name comes up here...I start hoping he'll struggle more, just so that I can stop hearing his name.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 07:43 AM) Not making any changes for chemistry sake is what Pat Gillick and the 2001 Seattle Mariners did. They tore threw the regular season with no equal. Then in the playoffs they were dispatched with barely a whimper in the ALCS. Not making any changes for chemistry was also what the 2002 Anaheim Angels did. Making changes and not worrying about Chemistry was also what the White Sox did in 2001, when after winning the division they decided to add a starting pitcher in David Wells and a backup Shortstop named Royce Clayton who was to help Jose with his defense. They thought they had filled in the pieces so well that the slogan coming into that year was "It's time". What did we wind up with? Wells b****ing at Thomas, Clayton hurting the clubhouse, and a Twins division title.
  17. Come on boys...Let's get these bastards tonight. THIS IS OUR HOUSE. OUR HOUSE. IT'S OUR TURN TO SHOW THEM WHO THE BOSS IS. Big Jon... . Let's get you number 14, and keep on track for that 25 win season. Go get em son.
  18. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) He'll pinch run him. Of course. Which is exactly how he should have responded to the question. "How do you think you'll use Podsednik" "Well, it depends on the situation of course...but if I need speed on the basepaths late in the game he'll be nice to have"
  19. QUOTE(Balance @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) Each season, no matter what you do, you're gonna win 60 and you're gonna lose 60. It's what you do with the other 42 that makes the difference. Those 2 losses in that soulless arena were in the "you're gonna lose 60" group. Actually at the rate we're going this year...we've got a shot to sweep those 42 and then throw a few more on for good measure.
  20. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) Larry Hughes was always the type to go where the money was and "screw winning". I thought that Redd and Allen were supposed to go to Cleveland because of the winning with King James and were the greedy ones for staying where the money was?
  21. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) Do I get a free Moose with it? Only if you buy the bullets.
  22. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) That's it, I'm boycotting my PEZ Dispensers. And everything else that says "Made In China." I think I can find you a cabin in Montana that will suit your needs quite nicely then.
  23. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) texeira takes american spot http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...t=.jsp&c_id=mlb You know...I bet you he makes the final round, if he doesn't win. I love that guy's approach.
  24. No, but he did say he couldn't name a specific situation where he'd use him...and damn if there isnt' a more obvious situation than that one I don't know what it is.
  25. I can't really say I blame them. When you think about all of the other major olympic team sports, how many others run directly into the competitive season of that sport? Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, etc. - for all of them, if a guy wants to participate, he doesn't lose millions of dollars, so we still see guys like Ginobili getting out and competing in the olympics. In Baseball, it's the Cuban national team and a few others tossed in there, but the real big guns, the guys from the U.S. can't show up. I mean...if you really want to crown the best baseball team from any country in the world...how the Hell can you do it without guys like Ichiro, Pujols, Buehle, etc. facing each other. The umpcoming Baseball world cup also probably played into this as well.
