  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Really if they were anyone else, this would have happened years ago... They wouldn't have been able to add ARod, and Sheffield and Mussina and Johnson and Matsui... you get my point. Most teams if they make a big mistake or two are screwed for years. Heck look at the Orioles and Tigers too. They strapped themselves in with some bad deals and took years to recover, basically until those contracts came off the books. In reality, if Juan Gonzalez had half a brain, the Tigers would still be screwed. That is why I don't want to see the Sox adding a bunch of 35 year olds with big contracts in exchange for prospects who could big filling postions for 300K a year, and allow us to get the players we really want signed up. The Tigers still are screwed. They added a guy for $15 million a year for 5 years last offseason.
  2. If I was confident Gload would stay healthy, and PK left, I would be quite happy with him there given the numbers he put up in 2004. .321 average, 7 home runs in 234 at bats...He keeps that up the whole year and we've got a guy who hits 15-20 long balls, hits .320, takes 50 or so walks, and plays near gold-glove caliber defense. All for a very small price. He'd probably generate just about as many runs hitting .320 with 20 home runs as Konerko does hitting .250 with 40 home runs.
  3. Well boys, whenever the rain dries up, here's to another win today... Let's get out of this place with a sweep. I want to go to that Hell Hole by the bay on a high note. Especially given how the A's have been playing lately.
  4. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 09:40 AM) Surprising that Uribe is not in the lineup - he kills Maroth. Ozuna is a bit of an unknown here and I sure don't like him batting leadoff. Would rather have Rowand hit leadoff. Also, AJ is 4 for 10 off of Maroth in his career. Widger is 1 for 5. Small sample size, but I'd like AJ in this situation (except for the fact we are in a day-game-after-a-long-night-game situation). Uribe kills Maroth? What numbers are you looking at? Uribe is 3 for 11 career against him, 0 HR, that's a .273 BA, not terrible, but certainly not murderous. Today's a good day for a break for AJ. Don't want Widger catching Contreras tomorrow in Oakland.
  5. If we're lucky, this won't end up being that big of a deal, because there's a decent shot Walker won't see much playing time. The deal with McCarthy was supposed to be that while he was up, he'll be making an occasional spot start, but mainly he'll be consigned to the bullpen and we'll run with a 4 man staff and off-days until the AS break. If we do that, then hopefully BMac gets in the line coming out of the bullpen even before Walker, and in order to make sure McCarthy gets some innings we'll barely see Walker aside from facing the occasional single left handed batter.
  6. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 08:38 AM) They aren't going to pay him $80 million and not start him. He will be playing 1st base or be their DH, just like this season. I still think they're going to try to find some way to buy his contract out. He's costing them a lot in both playing time and in just filling in a roster spot that they could fill with another FA.
  7. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) He should have never been tossed out there for a 3rd inning. We have seen this before... To be fair, the last time we saw it was in a game where he threw 60 pitches or so, he'd only thrown 30 when he came out to start this inning. With the guy on...someone else should be pitching.
  8. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) It's ridiculous. We've reverted back to last year's team so gradually, that most of us didn't even notice. I dunno, but did it start when a certain player came back to the team? We also slammed into an 8 game winning streak when he came back.
  9. Because we're running out of relief pitchers, and if he can go 2 innings he'll have to do so.
  10. I think Kenny Rogers is unhappy about missing his last start. What do you guys think?
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) I predict a nice performance by Luis tonight. Um...yeah...because he's due for one, that's the ticket.
  12. 6.1 innings for McCarthy, 2 runs, runner on 3rd because of Podsednik, good game by BMac. Got hit kind of hard but never broke. Let's get him the win boys.
  13. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) Didn't he go on the Bereavement List? And Balta, you're right. I forgot about that fly out to CF. I didn't know for sure, and if he went on it wouldn't we have called someone up to replace him?
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 05:46 PM) Is it because McCarthy almost gave up another homer? Thankfully this is Comerica, or else it might be 4-3 right now. Gotta play the conditions. Konerko would have had another if we were playing anywhere else as well.
  15. Question; is Hermanson available to pitch tonight or not?
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) And the last guy to reach base struck out. No, actually the last guy to reach base was hit by the ball.
  17. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) Regardless of outcome, this is a good outing for McCarthy - and finally a quality start. Technically doesn't he need 1 more inning for it to be a quality start?
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Funny that wasn't the case after that 2 run homer. My how time flies. BMac started using the change after that homer. And it has worked.
  19. If he left the game right now, he'd be in position to win the game. That's a good start. You know, my prediction for Bmac tonight in the other thread was 6 innings, 2 runs.
  20. He used the changeup last inning. It worked. It was hit hard for a foul ball on 1 pitch, and then the next pitch...the fastball became a strikeout. Do that more often!
  21. His run support is only 2 runs? Against Johnson that's all we can come up with? I'd worry a lot if that were the case.
  22. Wild Pitch by Johnson scores the 2nd, Crede moves to 2nd...this pitcher looks quite wild today.
  23. Some good work with the aggressive running there, Everett takes 3rd on the single, wide throw, gives Pierz 2nd on the throw.
