  1. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) The only move i see happening is getting another arm or 2. We can possibly get a solid reliever as well as a solid spot starter- just in case El-duque's arm is seriously injured and BMac doesn't pan out. This next stretch could determine that. Hell, there's even been rumblings of BMac keeping the starting spot if he earns it and El Duque becoming long-relief when he gets back.
  2. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) As long as we're dreaming...Brad Lidge? I'm going to just assume you really mean it when you're dreaming and you know all the reasons why that won't happen.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) Do you think a Barry Bonds uniform will go for $1,000,000 in 75 years? me neither. Well...if you put it on, there might be some residue of the cream on it...
  4. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) Uh, as to why no GM has made the deal for him... You know, I bet if he wasn't a boras client we'd actually have offers... Even when a guy struggles with his first team, if he's shown a lot of talent in the minors, usually there'll be a couple of teams who are willing to give you something for him thinking that their hitting coaches will work where ours have failed.
  5. The game where Roberto Hernandez became something was an incredible game...Sox fell down 5-0 Early against Detroit, pitching was in Shambles, Hernandez comes in and absolutely silences Detroit's bats, and we end up winning 6-5. A few weeks later he was our closer.
  6. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) If Willie gets sent down for Ross that is completely absurd. We need Ross as a defensive replacement, bat off the bench, and for the flexability to PR for PK. But there is no reason to send down Willie before Timo - none. The amazing thing is, there's hardly a person here who doesn't believe that. And I think a majority of people here think that Timo will be the one who stays.
  7. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) BMac: Pretend your still pitching in Charlotte, these Royals aren't much different than some of those teams. Actually, I'd much rather him pretend he was still pitching in Spring Training in Arizona.
  8. I'm beginning to worry that Baltimore is looking a lot like the White Sox in 2000...their pitching staff overachieved early in the year while their hitters were killing the ball, but now it seems to me at least that their pitching staff is starting to get banged up, and I don't know if they'll be able to deal with that. You just can't outscore everyone, not in that division. The Yankees and BoSox will see to that. The Red Sox have had struggles with their pitching, but it doesn't strike me that they've seen anything worse this year than last. Schilling will be back at some point. David Wells is not as bad as he has been - he's been almost in his 2001 White Sox form. Miller will continue to improve as he gets back into the game. Manny Ramirez has also been somewhat down this year, and that won't last. And Foulke will turn it around at some point this year. I still pick the BoSox.
  9. I'm still a youngin so I don't remember much before 1990, but Ventura's slam is easily tops in my head. Second I think I have to put that GW home run that Joe Crede hit last July. (was actually on my dad's birthday)
  10. Personally, i'm just amazed at how rapidly Joe went from having an amazing and functional swing in the first few weeks of the season back to flying open and swinging for the fences every time he's up.
  11. Even if there's some good-natured fun already established, I personally can't see the point of taunting one of the decent guys on the Cubs roster for giving up a slam to Jeter. There are plenty of other Cubs who are far more deserving than Borowski. Wood, Patterson, Baker, Maddux immediately come to mind.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Yeah continental drift tore apart Pangea 10's of millions of years ago. Actually...continents move apart at a rate of roughly 1 centimeter per year...to first order that's the rate your fingernails grow. The last time there was any contact between South America and Africa was about 200 million years ago. North America was splitting off from Africa even before that.
  13. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 05:25 AM) How about Trent? He apologized. Even went on BET to do so. But even though Byrd has said he is sorry, he has also consistently lied about his involvement, trying to whitewash it, claim it was for only a few years, etc. These statements are in his book which is just coming out, so even today, he is still lying about it. Lott lied when he was on BET too. My personal favorite was him saying that he was in favor of affirmative action. No one in their right mind believed him. Lott, BTW, is still one of the Senators who has refused to give his support to the lynching-apology resolution adopted by the Senate. Byrd was one of the co-sponsors.
  14. Anyone know how Cleveland's schedule fits into that picture?
  15. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) Not to mention, when it's your year, you get those calls. On the other hand...we'd still have tied the game even if they'd gotten both of those calls right. Pods at second still scores. And if Pods hadn't been put at first in the 8th, Harris would have been hitting with a guy at 2nd. He could have gotten an actual hit, or even if he made an out, ArRow's single would still have driven in the tying run. Either way...we've had games that the umps took away from us already (Oakland), so if nothing else, things do somewhat even out over a season.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 05:24 AM) Lima has been lousy, but he can occasionally throw a gem. I hope we get the head case version of him tonight. I think he used up his gem of this month when he beat the Dodgers in his last start. Considering they were his former team, I ain't surprised he used it then. Considering that was his only win this season...and he's in our house...there's no good reason to expect him to be able to dominate. Hell, and if you think Zambrano gets bothered by people on first base...let's put Pods on Lima. Let's go BMac...let's get you the game ball to take home. First of say...320 or so. And 1 other little note in case you guys are interested...given the Offday on Thursday, Ozzie is still talking about having Garland move up a day to go against the Cubs, then bouncing BMac back to pitch against Detroit.
  17. About 3 or 4 weeks ago, the Texas Rangers were absolutely on fire. They won like 8 in a row, beat up on us, and even tied the Angels. They've since regressed somewhat, and are now just a good team chasing Anaheim. About 2 weeks ago, the Cubs were the hottest team in baseball. Everything was clicking, and their young pitchers were filling in the holes for Prior and Wood. Now, they've lost like 5 or 6 in a row, and fallen nearly 10 games back of St. Louis. Cleveland is not a bad team. They're not going to finish with a winning percentage of .250. But even the worst teams get hot. Cleveland will need a couple more parts to make a run at us. They could still potentially do some damage, especially since I believe we have 10 more games left with them. But I'm still more scared of Minnesota. Minnesota still has a far better bullpen no matter what Cleveland's bullpen ERA tells you, and they have far better starting pitching. Cleveland has a shot at being there in the wild card race. But there's no good reason to think that they're good enough to win this division...with the pitching that the other 2 teams have.
  18. Willie Harris proved on Saturday night why he needs to stay on this team instead of This Idiot Makes Outs...he did his best Dave Roberts impression. He came in to pinch run in the 9th, immediately took 2nd off Brazoban, and then scored the tying run on a single by ArRow. Ignore the fact that we have a backup outfielder already in Everett, and a 2nd backup in Ozuna, and hell even a third and fourth backup in Uribe and Harris, and just Harris's speed is reason enough to keep him around.
  19. Didn't the Score just get the Sox radio deal? You think they'd have to have at least a little sanity to get that. Unless the guy's arguing that Ozzie can turn Cory Patterson into Scott Podsednik when no one else has been able to, this man deserves to have a chair broken over his head for sheer incompetence. I'm sure all Ozzie wants is another swing and miss guy who can't advance runners and swings for the fences every at bat.
  20. In terms of Frank...I certainly don't mind seeing him out of the lineup every 3rd day or so. This guy simply is not at perfect health, and we should not treat him as such. He should be given as much time off as this team can afford. 1 game out of 3 sitting on the bench, plus added time off any day he actually doesn't feel well, certainly seems to me to seem like a reasonable precaution. We will want Frank's bat at the end of the season. We absolutely should treat him with kid gloves all year. And btw, this again, is another reason why Gload should get Timo's spot; Timo should never get at bats with these two. Never.
  21. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) As long as he doesn't start center how the hell was he a center fielder anyway? :banghead Montreal. Expos.
  22. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) Yeah, when Crede can put up those kinds of numbers he'll get his free pass as well. I'll give anyone on our team who hits 41 HR and drives in 120 a free pass. I promise. Swear to God.
  23. Twinkies have an off-day tomorrow as well, so if we win 2 straight games, we'll be up a good 8 games on those boys.
  24. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) However, Konerko definitely gets a huge pass on this board. 41 home runs and 120 RBI's in a season will do that.
