Yeah, his last injury was a freak injury, but none of his others were. His others were genuine health problems. And this one has a habit of really hurting people for a long time. Also, after he came back from his ankle injury last year he was inconsistent for quite some time. didn't really get it going until the end of the year. Prior is as good a pitcher as any in baseball...when he's healthy, but he's shown me no signs that he'll ever put together a string of healthy productive seasons. I'll take a full season of Garland over a half season of Prior and a half season of Mitre any day.

And in terms of the volcano question...the amount of energy released by the Sumatran quake is actually essentially negligible compared to the heat lost by Earth every year. Earth is a very hot body, and it is trying to get rid of that energy as fast as it can. Some of it is dissipated by earthquakes. Lots more is dissipated by heat flow through the surface and worldwide volcanic activity. The energy of 1 earthquake is basically a drop in the bucket of energy displacement. It also says that there was no hope of any recovery. The brain was completely atrophied. It was 50% of its normal mass. Nothing could change that fact. It also says that if she were given actual solid food, not from a feeding tube as her family and their supporters had suggested, her body would not have responded, and she would have choked. Here's hoping Dye is healthy enough to play RF, and we don't see Timo out there. I think this would be a wonderful game to start working on the "Manufacturing runs" that this team was doing back in April & early May when we were on fire...get a guy on base, run him or bunt him over, and then make use of the sacrifice fly. We haven't done that nearly enough lately for my taste. I love it when Ozzie puts the pressure on the infield defense of the other team to defend a bunt or a hit & run, because most teams aren't good enough on defense to avoid making a lot of mistakes.

I'm starting to worry about this injury more & more with each passing day... How many days in a row have we heard that Marte will be ready the next day. When that keeps getting pushed back, I start worrying it might have done a little bit more damage, and he might be gone longer than we think (or even bothered by it for some time - even worse)

How many left handed arms are there in people's bullpens who can get people out and have years ahead of them? A few, but not enough to satiate an entire league. Cotts can build a career in a relief role (and make himself a decent paycheck), especially if he keeps being as good as he has this year. People will pay a lot to fill that left-handed setup role...you just can't win without it. You need a guy who pitches from the left side, otherwise your pen isn't full. A quality left handed reliever is more valuable than an average left-handed starter.
