  1. QUOTE(jerseysox @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) and i'll bet ANYTHING paul konerko makes the all-star team. If Paulie makes the all-star team without getting his average back up to .260-.270, then the only reason he's making it is as penance for that absolutely awful choice Torre made last year, in picking Giambi over Thomas/Konerko.
  2. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) A little home cooking will be nice, I've got to admit I have been over-reacting, but that's what you do when you are die-hard. 18 of the next 24, with games against the Tribe, Colorado and the rest of the bad NL West should get us rolling again. I believe we also play the Padres, and they're just about as hot as Texas right now. The Diamondbacks are also playing quite well. The only "easy" mark for us is a set in Colorado.
  3. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) Uribe with a 3 hit day Juan, can you teach Crede how to bust a slump? If Uribe follows the Dye pattern...He won't have a hit for the next 4 games. What happened to the Podsednik from about a week ago? He looks terrible up there right now. It'd be lovely to see him take a walk. Just 1.
  4. Morneau is hitting .292 with 7 home runs and 29 RBI in 130 at bats. Konerko is hitting .234 with 13 home runs and 37 RBI in 175 at bats. I'll take the Paulie from last year...where he spent the year around .280, over Morneau. I don't want a Konerko who hits .234.
  5. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) i am not saying there great but look at the record they are in first place and best record in the bigs. what more do you want! I want us to win more than 2 games out of our last 6 against decent teams.
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) As long as he hits them opposite field right? Hell, if we could get 1 other guy hitting .280 in the lineup I don't give a rats ass where he hits the ball to.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) I think he meant that no one really is showing signs. I do like the way Dye is swinging the bat right now. Clearly, our biggest offensive problem is Crede. The person I'm worried about is Pods (sorry Rowand44). So much of our offense has been based on him getting on base, and he seems to not be reaching base nearly as much as he was during our great stretch. Paulie looked before today like he was starting to snap out of it...like .300 over his last few games...Dead keeps having 1 good game followed by 4 bad games...Uribe had 2 hits today but nothing spectacular, and Pods has been slowing down. Not overall a very good set of signs. Man I can't wait to have #35 back in this lineup tomorrow.
  8. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) It's simple the Twins are built much better than we are. Their hitters are"hitters," they 8 Iguchi's in their line-up, everyone except Hunter. All the Twins hitters hit opposite way and that's why they have such a solid line-up. Their pitching staff doesn't walk anyone and their bullpen is so deep, that they can afford to take a pitcher out in the 6th or 7th without wasting the pen. Let's face it they are better than us again, we are very lucky that we have a 3.5 game lead. The scary thing is Johan and Nathan are struggling a little bit now. They are not better than us...almost 1 through 9 we have better players. Aside from Torii Hunter and maybe Joe Mauer, can you name a guy who they have who is a better player at their position than the guy we have? At least on paper, in terms of career numbers, we have better players at almost every position. Our guys are just hugely underperforming. It's absolutely ridiculous. These guys should be so much better than they are but it seems like they just won't snap out of it.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) Its is ok to start to get a bit worried with this team. Or are people just going to repeat the mantra of we have the best record in baseball, we have the best record in baseball. If you close your eyes you can almost hear the rhythmic hum during the mantra. Yes, it's ok to worry now. We're in a funk...it's all led by our bats...and a lot of these guys show few signs that they're coming out of it.
  10. Garland's defense let him down a bit too - Uribe should have turned that double play...Texiera was running far, far harder than Uribe was on that ground ball last inning. If he turns that, then the inning ends with 1 run given up. Dye should never have let that last ball past him either.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) We were winning games earlier on we had absolutely no reason to win. How many games were we on here saying how lucky we got, etc. Well, our hitting is worse now than it was back then, and our pitching has not been getting that tough 3rd out in the big inning. Our smallball approach is simply awful. We have 2 players capable of playing that way, and their ability is minimized by terrible hitters batting right after them. We've got plenty of guys capable of playing small ball, but our guys just aren't smart enough to realize it. Playing small ball includes geting a guy to 3rd and hitting a sacrifice fly. Everett and PK were doing a wonderful job of that earlier in the year, now they've stopped. Small ball includes hitting the ball to the right side when you've got a guy on 2nd, and we've stopped doing that. The speed doesn't matter if you're playing smart ball. We've stopped playing smart ball, and it is costing us a ton of runs.
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ May 29, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) Yeah, maybe some of the critics were right about us finishing 3rd or 4th. While I don't think that's going to happen, it makes you wonder how this team has had the best record in baseball for over a month. The Dodgers were on fire for a few weeks there too. We are so much better of a team than this on paper. Especially at the bat. This is just so freaking frustrating...every single guy on this team other than Iguchi and Pods are hitting well below their career averages. Let's hope that rainout is a good thing...gets Frank back in the lineup 1 game faster.
  13. So...now that we're finally out of that mess...can anyone tell me how in the name of Hell we've only scored 3 runs off of Chan Ho Park today? The guy has been absolutely terrible. He's been walking people, he's been behind almost every hitter, and yet we can't get more than 3 runs? AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH. If he wasn't getting the call on that pitch down & in to the left handed hitters, he wouldn't have had a single pitch to get people out with.
  14. Dye makes up for his good play with a terrible play.
  15. Let's go Garland, the reason you've been winning all year is that you've gotten out of these innings.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 29, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) This Texas team is just stacked. Man...could our hitters ever learn something about what Texas has done this inning...weak hit by Soriano, going the other way, and bam, it drops.
  17. Come on Garland...1 more out. Just 1 this inning, please.
  18. Wonderful catch by Dye. Wow. Thank you Dye. That's a top-5 web gem in my book.
  19. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 29, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) I wonder if Bruce LeVineLine is right about something for once. DJ just said on TV that the Hurt would be in the lineup tomorrow.
  20. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) Do we really want to bring up a guy who's hitting .210 in the minors anyways? I'd bring up Greg Norton before Joe Borchard. I could live with the 2nd coming of Rob Deere. I really could. He'd be producing more runs that Dead right now.
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) "Happy" White Sox fans. Do they exist? No, they don't. Seriously. I know that was sarcasm, but I think it's basically the truth. Did Happy Red Sox fans exist before last October? We've thrown a freaking world series more recently than we've won one. We haven't gotten to a world series in my lifetime, and probably in the lifetimes of almost everyone here. There's just no reason to be happy yet.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ May 26, 2005 -> 10:13 PM) I agree with you. Borchard also gives you the switch hitting ability, which might make the opposing team bring in a new reliever, etc. Trouble with thinking about bringing up Borchard right now is that if you bring him up...he's either on the big league club or he's gone. Borchard is on his last minor league option right now. So if we bring him up, and he keeps hitting .150, what do we do with him? To put Borchard on this lineup, Timo would have to clear waivers. If we then were unhappy with Borchard...and say we made a trade or something...then we lose Borchard as well. While Joe B. Hasn't shown basically anything yet...I'd still rather not lose that draft pick, just on the off chance he'll figure out how to turn himself into an Adam Dunn "I strike out all the time but still hit 50 home runs" kinda guy.
  23. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) I never thought of that, but that's not a bad idea. As it turns out, they were probably just saving the spot for Frank's return Monday. We were going to be in Texas for 2 days, 1 day if KW read a weather report. Maybe he also wasn't wanting to blow a minor league option on someone who he'd only bring up for a couple of games?
