2-1 count, hitters count, good time to put something on? I'd say yes.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) There's the walk. might as well try to steal or hit and run because the bottom of the order ain't coming up with TWO hits. Hit & Run just might open up a big enough hole for Dye to hit something through. I think that would be a very smart idea. Dye needs all the help getting a ground ball through the infield that he can get.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) take a walk and steal a base A Row Hey, for once Dye is having a good game, maybe he'll make use of the baserunner.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) Molina, rivera, molina. who gets the ninth? Buehrle or Hermie? Make your call. I say Hermie. After getting through the heart of that order in the 8th...I give it to Buehrle unless someoen gets on.

Any chance taking him out is just precautionary?

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) ESPN reporting Frank out with a hip flexor strain. Damnit!

QUOTE(fathom @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) Don't get your hopes up. I've heard nothing to suggest he'll be gone. Hell, he's Ozzie's first choice off the bench. A fact which is totally beyond me when Carl Everett is sitting there. Your number 2 guy in RBI's or a guy hitting below .200. Who would you pick?
-
Man, we were 5 feet from being behind in this game.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) A.J.? Hell, Willie has a much better chance at getting a hit now than Timo. Timo is 0-10 ph this season, I'm pretty sure. Eh, I still dont' like the idea of PHing with your backup catcher when you're only carrying 2, even if that catcher could still sit at the DH spot.
-
Timo should be relegated to only playing on days before we travel. His at bats make innings end so much faster.
-
Timo Perez has gone beyond being an annoyance...PHing for Frank...unless Frank is hurting, Timo is now the enemy.

QUOTE(AirScott @ May 30, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) he does, he's got a long swing. maybe a hitting coach of some sort could tell him to shorten it. Maybe Crede needs another 6 months in his batting cage in Missouri.
-
QUOTE(AirScott @ May 30, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) there's no way the Sox are coming back in this one, this offense can't get anything done...oh, we're winning. how bout that? Shhhh....don't tell them that...they might do something rash.
-
Can anyone remember the last time Crede got a hit?

QUOTE(GASHWOUND @ May 29, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) True, lets hope they don't decide to wake up against us this series..Tomorrows game is huge..gotta stop the bleeding Why can't we be the ones who wake up? They're still missing Vlad the Impaler, I believe.

QUOTE(greg775 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) I wonder what we'd have to give up for Randa. The same thing we'd have to give up for any one else...too damn much.

If I could get to the city...I'd be there.

A short rant by me... What the Hell happened to our supposed "Smart Ball" from earlier in the year? When is the last time anyone can remember our team bunting someone over to 2nd? When is the last time we had an actual sacrifice fly with a guy on 3rd? Back at the beginning of the year, or heck even 2 weeks ago, the things that were working the best for us was moving the runners along and knocking them in, even in cases where Pods wasn't on base stealing them. Everett was leading the league in Sac Flies for quite some time. And on top of that...what happened to the massive amount of double plays we were turnign to start the year? Suddenly we can barely turn in a double play a series, at least to my eyes. And we sure as hell can't turn one in a key situation. Ozzie took this team to the best record in the bigs by playing smart ball. When people got on base, we'd give up an out to get them over. We weren't getting 5 run innings, but we were putting men across the plate. Ozzie loves saying "Speed never goes into a slump." SO HOW THE HELL ARE WE IN A SLUMP? I'll tell you why...because we stopped running...we stopped playing hard...we stopped putting pressure on the defense. Speed doesn't go into a slump. We stopped forcing the issue, so now we're in a slump.

QUOTE(I-HATE-CREDE @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Yeah, but think about this: We've now got Iguchi at 2nd base instead of...aw heck, was Jimenez still here or was Harris at 2b then? We've got Pierzynski catching instead of Olivo/Alomar. We've got Uribe instead of Valentin. We've got ARow in Center. We don't have the biggest of the big guns from that year's lineup. But we're much more solid at the positions that in 2003 were weaker. We just need a few guys to snap out of some ridiculous funks. Uribe, Crede, Dye, Everett, and now Pods.

I'm 2000 miles away from the Cell...and when number 35 strolls up to the plate tomorrow, he'll be getting a standing ovation in my living room. WELCOME BACK BIG FRANK! :uhoh

QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 29, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) Just back as well. I am going to disagree with Fotop on one count... Guys and gals, I saw one thing that REALLY concerns me. When Mench hit that home run, I was sitting about one section over. Hell, I was probably on tv. That was a f***ing BOMB. But, I was watching the reaction of our players. Their body language was "oh, s***, we're done". I have not seen that all year until today, granted I do not watch these guys every day. But to see some of the guys hang their head told me that they are not as confident as they were. These guys are pressing. Hard. And they're not playing loose anymore. Some of these guys were approaching the plate a little better then games past, but Podsenick looked horrible today. Where Pods goes, the Sox go, at least for the most part. Garland was doing ok, except for the Mench pitch. But I kinda felt that one coming. I think you're right about how much these guys are pressing. But I think that it also has the potential to snap back just as much the other way. Almost every one of the guys in that lineup is underperforming right now. Boston was doing the exact same thing earlier this week, and were falling farther back. Then the game hit Saturday night in New York...and boom. Today was probably about as rough of a loss as it can get...we were just made fools of. But what really did hurt is that no one felt like we could come back. On the other hand...you give this team 1 comeback win or 1 huge outburst on our home field before a good crowd...and maybe a little shot in the arm from #35, and that offense might suddenly start it going. Remember back in 2003...the offense was garbage until the all-star break, when KW traded for Alomar and Everett, and all of a sudden, things started clicking for like 2 weeks - Ordonez hit .600 for 2 weeks, Konerko, Thomas, and Lee all got it going, and we pulled nearly even with Minnesota? I think this team is primed for something very similar. We have guys with plenty of skill, but things just aren't clicking together. But if they do...we'll suddenly start putting a lot more runs on the board. And we've got a lot better pitching than we had in 2003.

Bobby Jenks a bullpen possibility for this season?

QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Neither are an option if we plan on going far, if you ask me. Not at this juncture, anyway. Remember, right now we don't need someone to come up and be Eric Gagne. We need someone who can eat up some innings in close games so that we can get to Hermanson. We need someone in the pen with an ERA about 3...Right now Viz and Takatsu just aren't doing that. I think those stats are starting to look like a good reason to consider giving Baj another shot within the next few weeks, especially if a spot opens up anywhere due to injury. -
I still say that while Crede versus anyone else at 3rd straight up Crede will probably lose...having Crede at 3b, along with Anderson and McCarthy still in our organization...Crede + others has to win. It'd be nice to upgrade, yeah. But dammit, I think the cost is just too high.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ May 29, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) Check this out!!!! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385690/ I'm pretty sure The Simpsons: The Movie has been at exactly that same stage since, oh, 1992.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 29, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) By no means am I a fan of Harris....but if he gets sent down, and Timo stays.....Ozzie deserves to be punched in the f***ing mouth. I believe one of the papers yesterday carried a blurb about how the Sox were looking forwards to having another left-handed bat off the bench (gload). If that isn't an indictment of our current left-handed bats off the bench...I don't know what is.
